THE LIST OF INTENTIONS
© Scottie-ann Murphy

The old year ended; the New Year begun
Once again twelve months of new challenges
Adventures, mountains to concur and rivers to cross
Another year to accomplish goals, dreams
And hopes in our lives
We begin the year with good intentions
Plan accomplishments for the year
Make resolutions we promise to see through
A list is made on the first day of the year
Each item numbered one, two, three or more
Proudly we start our new routine on January first
Every day trying hard not to shirk our new aspirations
January, February, March even through April
Continuing with our mission to keep our new intentions
Hard as it may be, a goal may be forgotten
Or un-accomplished by mid-year;
Resolutions made at the start of the year
May not be completed by year’s end
But……we hope to have the chance to try
Again on the next January first

I decided to continue with the discussion of goals and intentions for the New Year.  I stated on January twenty-first two goals have been completed thus far.  As of the other day, I completed a third.

Reviewing my list, I find many are on-going projects to accomplish as well as on-going intentions for a better self.

One of my numbered items, I do have a few, to finally sign-up for a Facebook page.  I am not computer savvy so doing this quite a challenge for me, but I did it.

Unfortunately I am now spending a lot of time trying to connect with people from my past.  Doing this has now taken me from other aspirations I have on my ‘list of goals for 2013’.

As I re-read ‘the list’ today, I realized I needed to revise it by adding the following; limit time spent on Facebook and review list on the first of each month.

So far I am on track with my 2013 New Year’s goals.  Are you on track with yours?  Do you have to take a look at your list and make revisions or even make a goal list?  It is never too late to begin now; the year is only twenty-six days young you know.

New Year's Goals

The new year is twenty days old today.  I ask where has most of this month gone?  Like most, I try to make changes to my life for the new year.  I call them goals as opposed to resolutions.  The reason for using the word goal is that to me it seems more realistic.  Another word I use in place of resolution is intention.  I intend to make changes in the new year but sometimes a good intention falls by the wayside.  Easier for me to say to people I did not keep my goals or my intention then tell people I broke a resolution.  Many would say it is the same, but in my mind it is different.

Last year I wrote this poem about goals for the year.  The funny thing is that when I wrote it, I had already broken one of my goals.

Do you make resolutions or goals that you find you are unable to keep?  Have you made any for 2013 that you have already broken by the twentieth day of the month?

I wrote in the poem that we should pick up the pieces of goals we break and begin again.

So far I have kept the goal of writing in my personal journal each day (if only a few lines).  Two other goals have been completed.  One of them, starting this blog.  The other, I will tell you about some other time.

The ball drops in Times Square each year at the stroke of mid-night
  one year ends……another year begins

To ourselves we make New Year’s resolutions
promises to change….to make our lives better
or to do something we may have wanted
   but never took the opportunity

We may deiced to loose weight,
  begin an exercise routine
   save more money….spend less
or take time to stop and smell the flowers
These good intentions we begin on the first day of the year
hoping each day to see them through
Unfortunately by February first, many have been broken

Aspirations made on January first seem attainable at the time

The objectives we begin at the start of the New Year
  give us feeling of accomplishment
We begin to eat healthy, start the exercise regime
take up the hobby and make life changes
    these objectives are long term
When we break one or two….we become defeated
  failing in our Big Plan
Instead of abandoning our new goals
we should pick up the broken pieces….
     and begin anew

Each year I make goals that I hope to accomplish

My intention this year will be to re-start those I break
Then again….maybe long terms goals should not be in my plan
Perhaps I should make a list of intentions….
then try to conquer only one each month

My first goal for the New Year…. I will write in my journal everyday
Today, the sixth day of January……
Item one on my list has already been broken

First Post

I decided to begin a blog since a few in my writer's group also have one.  Not sure on what I would blog about, I decided upon calling this Ramblings.  There are times I ramble on and on about a subject so this seemed to be an appropriate title.  In this blog I plan to include flash fiction stories from the twenty minute writing prompts from my writer's group, poetry I have composed (some from a prompt I receive weekly) and ponderings on different things.

Today, as it is championship Sunday in the NFL, I wonder why the games are on late in the day.  Usually NFL games begin at 1:00 pm but I think games come on at three and eight.  Personally it does ot matter to me since I can be up late to watch the AFC Championship game, but I wonder about those who get up early and might not see the completion of the game.

Perhaps I am the only person who is pondering this thought today.

I could call this first post a test since I have never blogged before.  That is another thought to ponder.
