NEW YEAR BEGINS....Day 7

I’ve heard the word for the day before, COMEUPPANCE, but don’t think I ever used it.  It’s one of those words that some just don’t say anymore.  The idea of using it came simple.  I had twenty minutes to write a flash fiction using it.  What I did was recall a few things I had been reading in my current novel about cheating in marriage and this flash fiction wrote itself. It was indeed a fun piece to write.  I pictured it all in my head as the words appeared.  After I had the basic thoughts down I read it to my husband who then timed me ten minutes to rearrange words for final product. The first piece goes hand in hand with the story; you can call it a prelude of sorts.
The other night I could not fall asleep.  I thought about funny stuff such as titles of books or products.  Years ago my first husband was a fan of the satirical “MAD” magazine.  In one issue they listed a series of funny products; one being a cat litter called POUR and POOP.  Well a friend of my first husband was purchasing stuff for his girlfriend and asked what type of cat litter would be best.  My husband told him POUR and POOP was the best on the market.  Yes, the guy asked someone at the store for this brand.  Now it won’t be funny if the store employee didn’t try to go back in the stock room to find that brand.  It seemed the store employee was new and tells the guy they were out of that brand.  Neither of these two figured it to be a joke.  Think about it though what an interesting name indeed.
So here are a few books to read:
 a.  TAKING a BITE OUT of LIFE
      By:  Allie Gator
b.  YES, I CAN SING
       By: Carrie O’Kee
c.  STREAKING ON THE RESERVATION
               (A Memoir)
      By: Running Bear
We need a laugh now and again.

Until tomorrow....Have a great day and as always Stay Safe.

            REAL LIFE DINNER THEATER

Amy sat at the table watching the scene around her; a three act play was unfolding.
This production though were not actors playing out scripted scenes on a stage or in dinner theater but a real life drama.  There’d be no intermission to distract Amy.  She picked up her glass of wine, sipping the delicious merlot she never removed her eyes from the events before her.  Act One had started when the couple entered the restaurant; now Act Two began.  There she sat, the other woman; or the one who had been the other woman now her
ex-husband’s fiancΓ©.  The woman was dining with another man; such a touching scene. The two held hands and stared lovingly into one another’s eyes.  They were so engrossed, they did not notice anyone or anything around them in the crowded restaurant.
This was not the first time Amy encountered the fiancΓ© and this man but the fourth or was it the fifth. Amy lost count; but always on a Wednesday evening at Dominics Place.  It was a coincidence the first time as Amy had stopped to meet a friend for dinner that she noticed the couple.  Dominics Place was not one of Alex’s regular haunts, perhaps the reason why the cheating fiancΓ© picked it for her rendezvous.  A few weeks later, Amy once again stopped at Dominics Place to dine.  Again, she noticed the couple; the day was Wednesday.  She learned from a friendly server the couple were regular Wednesday night patrons.  Wednesday night was when Alex played darts with his buddies after work.  First they’d have dinner somewhere.  Well this Wednesday there’d be no dart game and possibly no dinner.  She made sure of that.  It cost her fifty dollars to get him to come to Dominics Place.  A gift certificate he supposedly won for a free meal, good only on a Wednesday, was sent to him at his office.  Alex never passed up anything free if he could help it. She was certain he’d be stopping by with his friends. Yes he’d be getting his just desserts tonight and not a gelato.  This would serve him right for how he cheated on Amy during their marriage. Retribution for what he put her through.  Amy took another sip of the wine as she waited patiently for the finale of the evening entertainment; the curtain coming down on her ex-husband.  She smiled as she noticed the four men being shown to a table; Alex and his three buddies finally arrived.  She could hardly contain her excitement as she saw the horrid expression on Alex’s face and the shocking look on the face of the fiancΓ©.  His voice carried through the restaurant as he began to shout at the woman.  His three friends held him back as he approached the man sitting across the table from the fiancΓ©.  Amy watched with pleasure while others in the restaurant sat with looks of disdain at having their meal interrupted.
Amy motioned for her server.
“I’ll have that bottle of champagne now”, she said.
“What are you celebrating”, the server inquired; she was surprised someone would be drinking champagne alone.
With a satisfying look upon her face Amy replied “I’m celebrating comeuppance; a long awaited due reward.”

NEW YEAR BEGINS....Day 6

I am absolutely enjoying this month’s writing challenge.  Yesterday’s odd word was; PETTIFOGGER.  Yes another word I never heard before.  This one was fun to play around with as I decided to use it comically. I thought at first doing a serious piece about politics and politicians but wanted to do a more light hearted piece.  The first one popped into my head as I thought about that old TV show I watched years ago “The People’s Court”; then I saw something something I had that was handmade for me by person who did ceramics. I decided upon a person hiring an individual to make a vase.
The second piece I did focuses on divorce lawyers. This came about from a book I read where the couple were having issues with the divorce.  I decided the wife had a bad lawyer who she ended up firing and hiring a new. Both are comical indeed.  I used a lot of other words termed to describe lawyers in both verses.
So after my rant about people not reading things, it happened again today.  I had to explain another bit of information to people who did not read something in it’s entirety.  Now the word FIFTY CENTS OFF is just that; fifty cents.  That would be fifty pennies or twenty nickels or ten dimes or two quarters or any amount of change equaling fifty cents. It’s not FIFTY PERCENT OFF.  Both my husband and I laughed so hard about this individual who did not know the difference.  So far I’m finding this the year of the nincompoop in my book.
Hope you all have a great Hump Day. Many of us are anticipating receiving our stimulus check; which now I read some went into wrong bank accounts. That’s a lot of codswallop as if people got the first check with no issues why are there issues with the second?
Until tomorrow....I’ll be skedaddling now have lists of errands today; and as always Stay Safe.

                      DAY IN COURT

I got myself a real pettifogger
When I tried to sue the potter
I hired to create a specific vase

He said the lawsuit would be easy
As the ceramic maker was very sleazy
So I signed him on to take my case

But this mouthpiece that I hired
From a law firm he had been fired
He was definitely no legal-meister

And so the litigation I did loose
Because the pettifogger I did choose
Was a scammer, cheat and shyster

Scammer, cheater, non legal-meister
Ambulance chaser, trickster, shyster
Was how she described her lawyer
He did not care if she won her case
either way he’d get his twenty pounds of
flesh.....sloppy work ethic he did have
All he cared about....the almighty dollar
So she kicked that pettifogger to the curb
Retained a divorce attorney that she

And in the end on her ex-husband
  she got the last laugh

NEW YEAR BEGINS....Day 5

The funniest oddest word was the challenge word for Monday, January fourth; this word was TITTYNOPE.  I never heard it before believe me.  After I researched it and saw it used in a few sentences it gave me the idea how I could use it.  I decided to use it with a restaurant focus; deciding if there would be sufficient food remaining to take home or not. The first verse focuses on just that.  I started the piece about the word sounding like something I’d read in an erotica novel. In fact my husband thought just that.  In the second second piece I used the word as an acrostic focusing on the narrator leaving a bit of food and decided if they finished the meal there’d be no room for dessert.  Actually I had fun doing these two verses.  They came quickly to mind.  Now as for me using this word again, I doubt it.  Egads if I’d use it while out in public having a meal. Telling my server I want a small box for my tittynope; I can imagine the look on her face or his for that matter.
Yesterday I got a big laugh of laughs.
Okay I guess I need to explain to people when you see this: 4:30-sold out
DOES NOT MEAN “SOLD OUT” but the time of a dinner is from 4:30 to sold out.
In fact the event has not happened as of yet and people are complaining that it’s sold out. No people it begins at 4:30 until it’s sold out.  People I find only read half of an ad; half of a message or story.  No one takes the time to read a whole posting even.
It’s like they only listen to half what some one is saying. That’s my newest peeve not listening to what some one says or what is in front of you.  Ok, my bad I guess for not properly writing an ad that a fund raiser dinner (which has not occurred and there is no advance ticket sales) read begins
4:30-sold out; I had to redo the ad to state it
begins at 4:30-6 or until sold out.
Yes seems my Monday had gotten off with a bang.  What will I get flack about today? It’s only 6am so I’ll see.
Until tomorrow....please read things in their entirety and as always Stay Safe.

                       NO TO-GO BOX

Sounds like an obscene word
You’d read in a erotic romance
But it’s only a small quantity of food
    left on a plate
or dregs of liquid left in cup or glass
Why get a doggy bag for just a tittynope
      of steak
Not worth it....that’s for sure
Do you want to ask the server for a
  to-go box for your tittynope?
Nope don’t think so....the little amount left
could not even make a snack

               DINING OUT DILEMMA

There’s not much food left on my plate
It’s definitely not enough for a doggy bag
The tiny bit of baked potato, broccoli and
         steak
Then again it’s only a few bites left to finish  Yet, if I try to do so there’d be no room for
       dessert
Never do I pass up the chance for caramel
      cheesecake or cannolis
Opportunities like this are rare when I dine
      out
Perhaps I could try to consume this small
      quantity and not be wasteful
Even though I know everyone leaves a
        tittynope now and then

NEW YEAR BEGINS....Day 4

The first day of a new week; first Monday of a new month and a new year.
The word for January third was CODSWALLOP.  I like that word too. I know a lot of people who can relate to this word unfortunately.  I composed two pieces using this word.  The first one focuses on a woman not wanting to listen to the man in her life who gave her lots of grief before. She asks him to leave but still loves him.
The second is similar but in this I used a lot of other odd words.  Both popped into my head; oh neither was inspired by anyone in particular; they came from listening to women over the years talking about men.
As a new week begins, I need to try to plan out my week if possible.  I found by doing so has been a help to me when trying to get things done.  Lists of lists of lists I have.
I remember doing a piece this past year about lists.  I do make list for errands or did. I got away from doing so; found it was not a good thing.  It seemed I’d go into a store forget what I had planned to buy; so one of my aims for 2021 is to make a list before leaving home. Of course with how we need to be masked in the stores, my husband goes for certain items and I go for certain ones.  Has it worked out?  In fact yes, it has.  We meet up at specific area for the check out or sometimes will check out separately.
I hope you all have a great Monday and week.
Until tomorrow....as always Stay Safe!

She knew he was full of malarkey

She told him to please leave her alone
never cross her path ever again
Told her goodbye, as he walked out the door
But she knew that she’ll always love him

What codswallop!
          Malarkey indeed!
Poppycock of course!
        Balderdash!
I could not believe a word....heard
       it all before
Too many times....I intently listened
    What a dunce was I!
To be duped by his elegant words....all
   a load of tripe
Yet....he did have an eloquence
         when turning a phrase
Even though it was nothing but drivel

NEW YEAR BEGINS....Day 3

The odd word challenge for January second was CATTYWAMPUS.

Personally I love that word as much as skedaddle.  I’m planning to try to use it more in fact, both of them.  I am looking forward to more of the odd words this month.
July the twenty-eight I had use obsolete odd words in two pieces I composed and posted in this blog.  As I looked back on my writings for that day, I laughed.  I remembered the two pieces were indeed fun to compose.  Funny that there are words we seldom use as it seems we use the same over and over again.
I am an avid reader.  As one who reads quite a bit, I noticed some authors like using certain phrases and words in their works.  I’m reading one at the moment who seems to be doing so.  I find her descriptions very well put; her explanation of certain circumstances quite real.  Words I feel have to be used properly.  I’ve seen and read passages that are not used correctly in my opinion.  Every writer I’ve found has a certain way to convey their story and messages; they have certain words they like to use.
I’m also reading an author who uses some real life people as characters.  She is using their real life names but in her novels, makes them a minor character and gives them different professions.
I have recently been acknowledging family, friends and acquaintances for their inspiration in what I compose.  My neighbors cat has had a few pieces during the past year.  Fran also had been inspiring she just doesn’t know it. One of my favorite inspirations is not a person but a place for my lake pieces; Harveys Lake, Pennsylvania has inspired the rainy day pieces of this past year.  The cottage is a figment of my imagination as the persons in the pieces.
Next time you read a certain author, look for certain word phrases or words they use again and again.
Until tomorrow....my mind feels quite confuzzled at the moment; and as always Stay Safe.

NEW YEAR BEGINS....Day 2

   Short read for you today!

The word for January first was SKEDADDLE.
As I thought about the word it all came together when I stopped at the AMVETS yesterday.  I noticed a karaoke was to take place today; something I use to enjoy.  Then I remembered we are doing social distancing and many patrons are masked when they stop by.  The server talked about how she enjoyed working the night of karaoke; but shifts had changed when the first COVID lockdown occurred.  It all came together about being at the club, being distant from others and leaving to go home due to the fact hard to hold conversation when one is sitting too far from another.  I pulled out my phone, click on the note app and typed the piece using today’s odd word.
There are times that inspiration comes in strange ways.  This was one of them.
I began my first goal yesterday; one day down three hundred and sixty four to go.
Hope everyone had a good first day of 2021.
Until tomorrow....I’m taking it one day at a time; and as always Stay Safe.

It’s time for me to skedaddle
I’ve been here way to long
Don’t want to sing karaoke
Since someone already sung my song

So it’s time for me vamoose
Get my act together and go
Why I ever came out this evening
That’s one answer I’ll never know

Everyone is wearing a mask
We’re sitting apart by at least six feet
Instead of talking to one another
It’s just send a text, message and tweet

Skedaddling now is what I’ll do
Go home and perhaps watch tv
Have a beer and a shot or two
Peanut nut butter whiskey it will be

NEW YEAR BEGINS....Day 1

                 HAPPY NEW YEAR!
A new year and month begins today.  It’s 2021 and I pray that this will be a better year. Every year I begin with good intentions to do certain things for the new year; like most they end up by the wayside. This year I am going to try something new.  Each month begin one goal to try to see them through.  I think January will be one of the harder ones, because I usually end giving up around the end of February.
As I am trying to compose this I think about what the year ahead will hold. What new issues will affect our lives? It’s a new year; each of us are the authors of our lives.  Only we can write the chapters of our book, no one else can.  Each day we have a chance to make it a good day; we need to embrace each day as it’s a gift to us from our Heavenly Father.
As I typed up ‘Forgotten Goals’ and ‘Goals For The Year’ because fireworks πŸ’₯ kept me awake till 2:30am, I thought about all the good intentions we make.  As I’ve said before we begin these with the aim to see them through but, if we fall short, we feel we are losers.  We aren’t a loser, we just need to begin again. Yes, I am guilty of not trying again.  One of my aspirations this year is that IF and WHEN I fall short of one of my goals, I won’t leave it by the wayside but start again.
My new writing challenge is odd words sent to me each day. Today’s challenge is out there and you’ll see the result tomorrow; each day the writing piece will appear here for the word from day before.
I wish you all again a happy, healthy and prosperous 2021.
Until tomorrow....think about your goals for this year and as always Stay Safe.
