JUST JUNE....Day 7

It’s a new week. A crazy day for me yesterday.  I had a meeting at the Amvets.  Had in my head what I’d do after the meeting; did not a do a thing I planned.
As you see I wrote my daily thought on this.
Seems I should take things as they come.  Try to not make
As yesterday as yo-yo day, the daily word was YO-YO. I remember playing for hours with a blue yo-yo trying to do the tricks my brother could do.  I then save some of my allowance to buy one of the yo-ups the would light up. I loved that toy. I felt if I can’t do the fancy tricks I at least have a interesting toy with which to play.
It was D-Day yesterday and I did do a tribute to those who were part of that campaign.  I had a frosty mug of brew and a bourbon shot in their honor.
The rest of my day went downhill after I got home.  I’ll leave it at that right now.
My day today will not be any better than yesterday and again I’ll leave it at that.  Keep positive thoughts for me. Thank You in advance.
Until tomorrow....hope you have a good day and as always Stay Safe.

                 DAILY THOUGHT
A crazy busy day for me
Best plans go astray
Guess I should just go with the flow
and take things as it happens

🪀 🪀🪀🪀🪀🪀🪀🪀🪀🪀🪀🪀🪀

                    YO-YO
Down and up....down and up
The blue yo-yo 🪀 would go
So many hours of fun
I can do it as I walked
And play as I would talk
Never could master the tricks
  my brother did
Around the World’ or ‘Walk The Dog’
But I got a yo-yo that would light up
saved my allowance to do so

(D-Day; National Drive-In Movie Day;
  National Yo-Yo Day and National
  Eyewear Day)

                  TODAY IS D-DAY
Seventy-seven years ago the beaches
    of Normandy stormed
A toast to those brave men who fought
     and died
I lift a frosty mug of beer to them and down a shot of bourbon in their honor
My eyes tear as I think of how they
    sacrificed for freedom
Tears slide down my cheeks....I remove
my glasses to dap my eyes
Salute to all WWII veterans on D-Day

                 THOUGHTS
Drive-ins are a thing of the past
Yes a few still are around
I wonder if they’re making a comeback
My thoughts on this pondering up and
     down like a yo-yo

JUST JUNE....Day 6

Sunday and the weekend will end today.
Yesterday I had a visit with my husband. Stayed during one of the physical therapy sessions. I sort of overstayed my welcome and yes, was told by management at rehab.
When I arrived home I sat and had a good cry.  A much needed release for. sure.
Later this morning I’ll be on my way to an E-Board meeting at my Amvets post. I am the individual who takes minutes.
Just hope it’s not a long meeting.  Sure it will be; just a feeling.
My visit with my husband was upsetting to me.  He has a UTI and hooked up to antibiotics plus fluid for dehydration. He refuses to drink the liquid provided. He has to due to a problem swallowing but won’t. I try my best to force him to and he won’t. I just am at my wits end trying to explain why he needs to drink what he’s given.  Enough said. He’s stubborn at times.
I wonder if there will be one morning I can sleep late?  Everyday I’m up by 6:30 and have to be ready to go someplace by eleven.
I love the toy word yesterday of CROQUET.  In my adult community pre-Covid Monday was croquet day. I could tell the day of the week by the games played.  Funny isn’t it.  I played croquet a few times.  Never won many games but it was something different to do. Now in the later years, I had lawn darts and yes I enjoyed that game.  Of course one had to be careful not to get hit with the dart.  That thing could really hurt.
My first piece does ring true of a reading dilemma I had back a while ago. It was raining and I wanted to read as when it rains my TV service goes out. I could not make up my mind between the two books, so I ended up reading a lighthearted cozy mystery instead.
It’s time for me to get myself in gear for the day’s meeting.
Until tomorrow....have a wonderful Sunday and as always Stay Safe.

             READING DECISIONS
Rainy day blues....a stay indoors lazy
      Saturday
I just want to read away the afternoon
Perhaps a good mystery or gothic
tale
A decision between “Jane Eyre” or “Rebecca”
The latter categorized as both
 Decisions....Decisions....Decisions
 As the thunder roars....lightning
flashes and rain hits the window
I make my choice....something light
    hearted to make me laugh
🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴🔴

            MONDAY and CROQUET
Whack....Whack....Whack
The mallet hits the ball
The sound of wood hitting wood I hear
Adults screaming like children
They try to hit their ball through the
    hoop in the grass
Whack....Whack....Whack
“Yeah”....”good shot”....”hurray” voices
      shout
The noise penetrates in through my
    open window
I peer out at the players enjoying the
       game
Like children at play some throw
   tantrums when things go wrong
Wonder if they knew the game once called ‘crooky’ or do they care
It’s all for fun as today is a Monday and
Croquet day in my adult community

(National Veggie Burger Day; National
  Gingerbread Day; National Bubbly Day

             WACKY THOUGHTS
Gingerbread Day should be in
   December not June
Perhaps it doesn’t matter....some like it
     all year
Bubbly I can go for a flute or two
as I try to enjoy the veggie burger
Although moonshine might be a better
   choice
Champagne is reserved for a bacon
    mushroom cheeseburger

JUST JUNE....Day 5

Today is Saturday.
I have decided to write thoughts on occasion here, observations or reflections as my first writing piece. Today it’s a thought. Yesterday a thought popped into my head about it Friday and not caring about the weekend now that I’m retired.  When I worked Saturday and Sunday were the only days I could shop.  What bothered me was I’d see retired people shopping on those days.  Now MY OPINION was they can be at the stores Monday through Friday; the weekend should be for us individuals who work all week. Now that I’m one of the retirees I try to avoid shopping on weekends. I guess it came to my mind and I wrote that as a thought. Sure others have a different opinion and that is fine; it’s how I feel about myself in this situation.
JACK-in-the-BOX was the daily word yesterday. I hated that toy; probably because I hate clowns. The lid opening and that scary clown popping out scared me. It’s a terrible toy in my opinion. The cute song I liked but not when the lid opened. I actually did cry and scream.  Clowns I still dislike to this day. These old fashion toy words are bringing back memories to me of toys I either owned; toys my step-siblings owned or childhood friends.  Of course I could have done with the Jack-in-the-box. These days I do enjoy Jack but Jack-in-the-bottle.
My day is going to be busy today.  Visiting with my husband then have a report to type for my Voiture.
Until tomorrow....enjoy the day; as always Stay Safe.

🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵🔵
                MY THOUGHTS
It’s Friday....I don’t really care
Being retired....everyday is a Saturday
  to me
The weekend is my time to stay home
and not go out to the stores
When I worked I hated retirees at the
store when I needed to be there
Stores on the weekend should
   be for employed individuals
Retirees can be at the store all week
Leave the weekend for working people
     to do shopping
My opinion of course
📦🤡 📦🤡📦🤡📦🤡📦🤡📦🤡📦

                   BOO to CLOWNS
I dislike clowns
  spooky to me are they
Once I had a Jack-in-the-box
with which I use to play
I would turn the little crank
  to hear a funny tune
Seemed the box lid would open up
   just a way to soon
The Jack-in-the-box so scary
   frightened me every time
the clown would pop up out of the box
It made me scream and cry

       WACKY HOLIDAYS JUNE 4th
(National Cheese Day; National Cognac
  Day; National Applesauce Cake Day;
  National Donut Day; National Banana
  Split Day; National Hug Your Cat Day;
  National Old Maids Day and
  Horseradish Day)

                   FOOD DAY

It’s going to be a foodie day for me
Breakfast I’ll have a Boston Cream
    donut with my coffee
Lunch will consist of grilled cheese and
    tomato soup....one of my favorite
        comfort meals
An afternoon treat of a banana split
Roast beef sandwich with horseradish
   sauce for my dinner....although no
      dessert
My old maid neighbor made me an
applesauce cake as a thank you after I found her cat wandering in my yard
Funny how she hugged her dearly
Finally as my day winds down a snifter
    of cognac before bed

JUST JUNE....Day 4

Well I never napped yesterday.  It’s now 5:00am and no way will I be going back to bed. I have to meet my husband at an oncologist at 10:30am and I need to be there at 10:00am or before.
It’s never ending for me right now.
Yesterday I realized Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday went so quickly.  It’s like time going so fast for  some odd reason.
I did not play the dice game Ship, Captain and Crew yesterday.  I was prepared though with a bag of quarters.
I loved the daily toy word of LINCOLN LOGS 🪵. I never had them, but thought about someone as a kid who did.  We took her brother’s and made a cabin for the tiny doll house figures she had.  Another day we played cowboys and Indians with her brother.  We made a fort with the logs; played with his tiny Cowboys and Indians figures.  I remembered those fun days and loosely based my piece on it.  I would have enjoyed having this toy. I could have had many fun hours making all interesting places for my tiny figurines to reside.  Tiny figures like the little family from my doll house; my toy soldiers as well.
Today is Friday; a another week ends.
Until tomorrow....wear your red today and as always Stay Safe.

JUST JUNE....Day 3

It’s 3:00am and I’m awake. Yesterday I took a nap which is something I’ve not done in months. I think I needed it.
I have a feeling I may see another in my future today; but I’ve said it before and never took one.
I thought about the old fashion toy of Ball and Jacks from yesterday. When the company I worked for was going to computers as opposed to data entering terminals, one thing they did was put a computer with mouse in the break room.  It had a game of Jacks on it.  It was to teach some of us how to use and move a mouse.  Actually I played the game on my breaks.  It did teach me how to maneuver the mouse. Of course I never got past fivesies.  At least it was one more than playing with the physical ball and jacks.
Yesterday Terry gave us SPINNING TOP as toy word of the day.  I had a metal top in red and yellow.  It was fun to spin mine against the top of others to see whose spun the longest.  I did win on occasion.  I’m not sure if anyone plays with tops anymore.
I’m sure an antique metal top is worth a good dollar or two.
I was told by a friend that June is Flag Day month. I think she reminded me as the past months I labeled months with a holiday being celebrate.  I guess she is right.  So I’m going to bring using that label in my daily Facebook postings. Actually today is day three of Flag Day Month.
Another busy day for me. Later around five I’ll be playing the dice game called Ship, Captain and Crew.  I only hope my lucky/unlucky charm is not around; I’d like to be a winner.
Until tomorrow....today is Friday Eve so enjoy; and as always Stay Safe.

🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻
                    NAPPING 😴

A needed nap I took today
Relaxing quite indeed
Unfortunately I had day dreams
About having a beer with a friend
Woke up....decided to pop a cold one
While watching game shows
  🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

              TOP CHALLENGE
A contest we would always have
Spin the top....whose would rotate the
      longest
Around, around, around,around
We’d get dizzy watching it
But our eyes stayed glued to the
 top
Each revolution giving me hope I’d win

   WACKY HOLIDAYS JUNE 2nd
(National Rotisserie Chicken Day;
  National Rocky Road Day; National
   Tailors Day and National Running
     Day)

Rotisserie chicken and potato salad for lunch
Rocky road ice cream for dessert
Too much will make me take my
  pants to the tailor
But running off the calories might
  work better

JUST JUNE....Day 2

A new month began yesterday.  Whew almost a half year over.
It was a trying experience as I was with my husband at the heart doctors yesterday.  The nuclear stress test was stress for me to endure waiting with him. After all that I needed a stiff drink.
Terry’s first old fashion toy word was BALL and JACKS. I loved playing as a kid. I never could master more than fours and I practiced a lot. Like many old toys of long ago this one sure is not played these days.
My piece on playing bar poker so true. After a guy would leave the club once the games begin, I’d win. He’d play a few hands and leave. Once he does my luck changed. Happened three times in a row. I told him last night, you played one hand now leave.  After he left I won the next hand. Now is he my lucky charm or unlucky? Can’t say.
This is a short read today.
I did a whimsical about jacks; no longer play jacks but Jack Daniels instead.
Until tomorrow....have a good day and as always Stay Safe.

🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀🍀
      LUCKY or UNLUCKY CHARM
 I have a lucky charm....at least I think
     so
They have to leave the club when I play
      bar poker
Seems I never win when they are there
I’ve won after they
    departed....happened three weeks in
        a row
My lucky charm mustn’t be around
  once the game begins
But needs to be there prior to play
Is this person my lucky charm
not sure but three has been a charm

💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
                  JACKS
Bounce the ball, pick up a jack
Many hours I played the game
Alone and with others
Twosies, bounce the ball pick up two jacks
A fun pastime played indoors and out
Threesies, bounce the ball pick up three jacks
Just don’t leave a jack left on the living room floor
Ouch....ouch...stepping on one in bare feet
I never got past foursies
Not fast enough or coordinated enough
      I guess

                JACKS and JACK

Loved to play with jacks
when I was a little girl
Many hours I spend bouncing the ball
  trying to pick them up
Now I am older no longer play
  the jack game
But Jack is still part of my life
  Jack Daniels that is

💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛💛
  WACKY HOLIDAYS JUNE 1st
(National Go Barefoot Day; National
Nail Polish Day; National Pen Pal Day
  and National Olive Day)

I’m going to polish my toe nails
  But refuse to go barefooted
Sitting at the desk I’ll write to my
  pen pal
Drink a martini while I do
 three olives of course

JUST JUNE....Day 1

A new month begins today as May left yesterday.
Yesterday was Memorial Day.  I attended a service at my Amvets where I read a poem I composed. The words were powerful as they stated Memorial Day is not a day of celebration.  After the service there was food typical of any summer type holiday. It surprised me the amount of dishes to pass people actually brought.  We had enough for some people to take a TOGO box which is typical. I never bring home leftovers or a box of food for another meal.  Our members who volunteered to work the event did a great job; they all are hardworking individuals.
I did my traditional shot of amaretto in memory of those who perished on the field of battle; and one to those family and friends who served in the military but no longer with us.
Now that a new month starts I look forward to what the daily word challenge is for the month.  It seems it will be old fashion toy words.  It should be quite fun.  I am in the opinion toys are not as popular as electronic devices for kids.  I remember hours playing with paper dolls or cut outs as some called them.  I loved my doll house and definitely my Betsy Wetsy doll. Outside I had a jump rope, metal skates, a hula hoop and a bike.  I’m looking forward to what Terry will come up with each day.
My first piece was done after I came home yesterday from the Amvets. As I stood there waiting to read, a flash back of a Memorial Day service came to my mind.  It was one I used in my FtS story.  That scene in FtS is based on a true Memorial Day event with a bit of fiction added; but it was one I remember now and then.
Terry’s last UK word was JUMPER.  I used it as both what we consider a jumper in the USA and how the UK uses the word.
I have busy day again; having to be at doctor with my husband at nine this morning.
Until tomorrow....Happy first day of June and as always Stay Safe.
😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

                   MEMORIES
I stand and look out at the crowd
   assembled
Children hold tightly a small American
     Flag
Two color guard units stand off to the
    side
Two American flags flutter in the breeze
Two POW/MIA flags; one American Legion flag; one Vietnam Veterans flag
I see them as I scan the crowd
Two color guard units standing at parade rest listening to speakers
on a Memorial Day Weekend Sunday
The honor guard stands close by
waiting to be called to attention
to fire the twenty-one gun volley
A bugler holding the brass bugle waits
to sound TAPS
A memory of a past Memorial Day
service runs through my head
This comes to mind as I attend services
  today
😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎😎

         JUMPER OVER JUMPER
I put a jumper over my jumper
  trying to keep warm
Worn over a white short sleeve blouse
   a red cotton jumper
The blue jumper with white pearly
  buttons knitted by my granny
So needed on a cool autumn day

     WACKY HOLIDAYS MAY 31st
(Memorial Day; National Smile Day;

There is no reason to smile on
    Memorial Day
