THANKFUL MONTH....Day Eighteen

This will be short again today.

Today there five are wacky/weird holidays to celebrate.   I plan to enjoy apple cider brew as I wear my tiara.  I decided to do my acrostic on celebrating all five wacky holidays today. (See Verse for holidays).
I do have a tiara and I’ve worn it proudly for many occasions like my birthday for example.  I think I did wear it last November 18th too.  In these days of trying to social distance and be safe, we all need to do something fun to unwind.  One reason to celebrate the wacky weird holidays.
I’m surprised to learn Mickey Mouse is 92 years old today.   Wow! He looks good for his age.
I am surprised about the push button telephone and when it came out.  I remember the old rotary dial for sure.  Make a mistake dialing and you start all over.
Today I am thankful for free speech.  It allows us to voice our opinions.  It gives me the chance to write these ‘ramblings’ also.
We should never take our freedoms for granted; be thankful we can speak our mind.
It’s HUMP day!
Until tomorrow....hope you all have a great day and as always Stay Safe.  Wear that tiara proudly.

       THANKFUL REFLECTIONS Day 18
I am thankful to have free speech to say how I feel on certain issues.  I can voice my opinion; each of us have that right.   We all should be thankful to do so.

THIS IS MY TO DO LIST TODAY......

Celebrating all five of the wacky holidays
         today
Happy Birthday to Mickey Mouse, 92 years
        old
Expect I’ll wear my Mickey gear; socks, shirt
        and jewelry
Enjoying later a tasty bowl of vichyssoise
        with crusty bread
Replacing my hat with a tiara when I head
        out to do errands
Sometimes you need to remind the world
        you’re  a princess 👸

Two phones calls will be made on my push
            button landline
Of course it’s a retro pink princess phone

After phone calls and errands are complete
        time to relax
Looking forward to a cold glass of apple
        cider brew
Like mine best with a shot of cinnamon
         whiskey

Five weird holidays today, all are unique
It is going to be a day of fun, food and
      drinks
Very often will I celebrate more than one
      wacky holiday
Exceptions happen! True fact! True fact!

THANKFUL MONTH....Day Seventeen

Technology has made our lives easier.  We carry with us a cell phone that we have apps that we can pay bills from; email to receive bills; texting as opposed to lettering writing.
We reply so much on our electronic devices, myself included.  I am thankful I can make a call from anyplace; send message from anyplace; check my email on the go and read a book and newspaper online.
Now with that being said, it seems I’m contradicting myself with today’s weird holiday which is ELECTRONIC GREETING CARD Day.  I wrote my acrostic today as  WEIRD HOLIDAYS; focusing on the wacky  holiday of electronic greetings.  I love to pick out cards and send as well as receive, but in these pandemic days, I’ve been doing e-cards.  An e-card gets there quicker but it looses something in the long run. The pleasure of receiving a greeting that the sender took time to write out, stamp and mail.  Of course I’ve gone the extra mile in my electronic greetings and made my own greeting with personal messages; but that doesn’t take away from the fact the card was thought out while searching through them at a card shop.
Think about which you rather receive and send.
Until tomorrow....have a nice day and as always Stay Safe.

Today I am thankful for TECHNOLOGY.
Technology has made our life easier these days.

 (For ELECTRONIC GREETING CARD DAY)

Weird/wacky holidays there’s always a few
     daily to celebrate

Electric greeting card or E-card being
     celebrated today

It seems that in today’s society things have
      changed

Rarely do many send a thought out card by
     mail anymore

Days now it’s a text greeting or e-card to the
        email inbox

How technology has changed our lives over
      the years

Of course it’s a fact high tech has made life
      easier

Lest forgetting the thoughtfulness  of
picking out the perfect greeting card

Indeed to send an e-card convenient and
    takes no time

Doing so, the recipient receives the greeting
     immediately

As opposed to two or three days going
     through the postal service

Yet I’d rather send and receive cards
      delivered by the mailman

Still I’m guilty of sending electronic
    greetings on occasion

THANKFUL MONTH....Day Sixten

Short, short read today.

It’s Monday and a new week begins. Today is National Fast Food Day and two days to celebrate Teddy Bears. First it’s TEDDY BEAR Day and secondly it’s HAVE a PARTY WITH YOUR BEAR Day.
As it’s fast food day, first and foremost it’s not just places with drive-thru I feel you get quick food but a lot of sit down chains and your bars and pubs have quick food.  Pizza places to me also are fast foods.
My thankful today is for people who are understanding. These people can understand when you are under the weather, down in the dumps or just not in the mood to be social.  I thank them for not digging into my affairs and wait until I explain to them.
Until tomorrow....have a nice Monday and as always Stay Safe.

********************************************
 THANKFUL REFLECTIONS Day 16
Today I am thankful for understanding people.  Those who never seem to judge you. They understand if you are not yourself at times. People like this are few and far in between.

There he sits on the bed
Everyday it’s the same routine
Does he ever think of days gone by
Days enjoying having our tea parties
Yesterdays of both our youth, now
      memories

Baxter Bear, my constant childhood pal
Every secret I whispered in his ear
And he heard all my hopes and dreams
Rambling on for hours he’d quietly listened

Darkest days he saw me through
And with me in times of joy
Year after year my teddy bear is always
        there

French fries sprinkled with malt vinegar
And onion rings with a Cajun ranch dip
Sweet potato fries with powder sugar
The things we shouldn’t eat, but do

Fast foods ordered for on the go
Of course a taco or burrito must be
        included
Or how about bacon cheeseburger or
      chicken nuggets
Doesn’t matter where you go, it’s all quick
   and fast prepared

Does anyone eat out leisurely anymore?
And does anyone cook at home?
Yet we all get our fast food craving now and then

THANKFUL MONTH....Day Fifteen

It’s Sunday! Today’s thankful is for weekends.  Weekends during fall is college football for me; so I’m thankful at the moment.
I LOVE WRITING DAY is one of the wacky/weird holidays for today and another is AMERICA RECYCLES DAY.
I did two acrostic deflecting the five R’s of recycling. There are a few articles on the web that give seven R’s, but this past Earth Day I’ve gone with five.  I am one who does my part in the area of reducing trash by working hard on having a plan at home.  It’s odd that this day does not come in April during Earth Day.
The acrostic on writing day reflects on how I
feel about the subject.  I like using pen and paper, but it does depend on what I have close at the moment.  I do carry a small journal book to jot my thoughts in at times. I’ve composed many a piece while sitting having a glass of wine at a bar or coffee at the coffee shop.   I do indeed escape to scrawling when I need to tune out the world.
In case your interested today is also NATIONAL BUNDT DAY and NATIONAL RAISIN BRAN DAY.
Until tomorrow....have a blessed Sunday and as always Stay Safe.

********************************************
      THANKFUL REFLECTIONS Day 15
Weekends hurray for weekends; it was a thankful for me when I worked.  I needed the weekend back then to recharge for the next week. Now it’s like all days mesh into one. Yet I’m certain there are many thankful for the weekends.

I love to write, it’s my escape from the world

Letting my ideas come to life on paper
Or in a journal, even at times on a word
          document
Very often it depends what is close at hand
Everyday I scrawl whatever comes to my
      mind

Writing with a pen instead of typing, I rather
       do
Realizing the pen can flow quicker on paper,
     it smoothly glides
It may possibly be the words not make any
      sense at the moment
They can later be rearranged into coherent
        sentences
Ideas emerging from my imagination
        authored on paper
Nothing better than the feel of the writing
     instrument in the hand
Giving a choice, paper and pen wins over
      typing a first draft

Days I’ve lost comprising the art of the
    written word many
And days of falling victim to writer’s block
         equally the same
Yet I write on, Happy I Love Writing Day

THANKFUL MONTH....Day Fourteen

It’s Saturday, let the weekend begin. Today I am thankful to have books and more books.
I enjoy reading.  I’ve always have.  I’d rather read at times then watch tv.  In books I get caught up in the story line of what actions
are taking place. In a series I’m like a good friend of the character waiting to see what’s happening next in their life.
Today’s acrostics deal with it being PICKLE Day. I’m a fan of pickles. I do not care if they are sweet or sour; garlicky or have a tang to them.  I enjoy them all.  I do like a pickle with my Bloody Mary whether it be dill or a Gerkin.  As for pickle martini a nice baby dill goes best I think.
Today’s also NATIONAL AMERICAN TEDDY BEAR DAY.  I wrote a piece that popped into my head after I set my teddy bear on the bed this morning. It’s not an acrostic but a whimsical composed item.
The final piece was a request from the individual who put out the monthly acrostic challenge. As one of the others in the challenge is getting married today.  Terry asked about doing an acrostic for them using a word such as wedding, marriage or the couples name. I used NUPTIALS.
I thought about what one says to a couple on their wedding day and I recall few I had composed before. It was indeed a challenge to convey my thoughts in this piece; I only know him through being Facebook friends.
Until tomorrow....have a pickle today; hug your teddy Bear; and as always Stay Safe.

Books, books and more books; never enough for me.  Today I am thankful to have books to read. I am thankful to have my choice of what I want to read.

Cucumbers fermented in brine

Let me have extra with my sandwich
Especially a good dill chip with a burger
Still I’ll take any type, they’re all good

Pickles aren’t just a sandwich side
Inasmuch they can be a beverage garnish
Can consume pickles with any meal

Essentially it’s a snack in my cocktail

Teddy Bear wears a red, white and blue
    ribbon around his neck
In a few days he’ll wear a brown and yellow

The neckwear changes with the season and
      holiday
Never does he complain as he sits
on my bed during the day
Watching all that happens in my bedroom
      when I’m not there
What does he see? Anything?
He’s the guard upon my bed never leaving
    his post till night
Only then does he rest until the morn
Fluffy only wishes he’d leave
He ignores her hisses and meows
 Teddy has an important duty
Keeping the cat from laying on my pillow

THANKFUL MONTH....Day Thirteen

*******************************************
        THANKFUL REFLECTIONS Day 13
Holidays are what I’m thankful today.  It’s a day to celebrate with family and at times friends.  November gives us Veterans Day which past and Thanksgiving which will be coming up. I like the thought of people gathering for celebrations; even in these uncertain pandemic times.
********************************************
It’s Friday and the date is the thirteenth. People are superstitious and this day made me think what to do the acrostic about, so it became thirteen.  Superstitions are part of our lives. They are unknown fears often irrational.  Now the black cat one gets me.  I adore black cats as well as all white fluffy ones. As a kid we had the one about stepping on a crack.  Quite interesting was that as well as the open umbrella inside.  I still do the spilled salt one though.
Dominoes was something I never got into all that much until the Triominoes game came out.  My first husband and I enjoyed playing that game with his mother and others.   We had game nights at her house playing cards or whatever game was on hand. Families don’t tend to play games anymore it seems.  Hand held devices or the computer take away the fun of competition.
Sitting around the table playing a board games or card games with family and friends brings everyone close together.
I did enjoy certain board games; for some reason Monopoly was never my favorite though.
Until tomorrow....have a great day and as always Stay Safe.

Take heed world today is Friday the
    thirteenth
Hope you are staying calm not panicking
It’s just another Friday and day of the month
Remember superstitions are only notions
They are an irrational fear of the unknown
Everyone has heard about breaking a mirror
Even about a black cat crossing your path
Not to forget opening an umbrella indoors
Thirteen is lucky when it’s a bakers dozen
Having received an extra donut not unlucky
     in my book

Dominoes a fun family game to play
Only I rather play a round of Triominoes
My reason I’d usually win most of the time
It was enjoyable to have game nights
No we all play alone on our devices
Oh how the times have changed

Don’t know where game night has gone
And why no one gets together for
      competition
Yet here I am ready for a game of FreeCell

THANKFUL MONTH....Day Twelve

Another rather short read today.

My thankful today is for religious freedom.  I don’t preach to others on how they should worship so enough said.
The wacky/weird holidays I found were not of any fun interest so I used two of the monthly ones in my daily countdown. I did quick acrostics on them.
As for being Chicken Soup for the Soul day, I composed the acrostic about chicken soup. To me, this has always been a very comforting meal; with crackers crumbled in the bowl or eating crusty bread with butter.  It’s chicken soup I turn to when I have the blahs. In fact I can eat soup any time of the year or for most any meal.
I used the word novel and memoir for the other acrostic.  I tried my hand at a novel. Someplace I must have the notes or rough draft.  I’d rather stick to vignettes, flash fiction and poetry.
As for my memoir, I’ve done few stories I have completed; but gave up as it was depressing me.
Until tomorrow....have a great day and as always Stay Safe.

*******************************************
      THANKFUL REFLECTIONS Day 12
Today I am thankful for RELIGIOUS FREEDOM.  We each should be able to worship in our own way.  I have my beliefs that of course with which I grew up. One thing I don’t believe is for others to push their beliefs on another.  We all need to worship and prayer in our own manner

(For Chicken Soup For the Soul Day)

Chicken soup is sometimes called Jewish
                Penicillin
How it got that name, something I don’t
           know
It is a wonderful comfort food any time of
            the year
Chunky chicken pieces, carrots, celery and
     either noodles, rice or pasta
Keeps the blahs intact on a cold wintery day
Either at lunch, dinner or pick-me up, even
     had it at breakfast
Needless to say, chicken soup seems to
     soothe my stress

Soup, especially chicken, cures all your
      ailments
Often I’ll crumble saltine crackers in my
    soup or have crusty bread
Understandably it’s chicken soup that
     nourishes the soul
Perhaps today will be a chicken soup day

                   MY MEMOIR
             © Scottie-ann Murphy
       (For Memoir Writing Month)

My memoir would be quite boring
Except my youth, which might be interesting
Many strange events happened by age
        eighteen
Only no one would believe me, I’m sure
I had a difficult life from birth to young
        adult
Remembering those times quite
         depressing, I rather forget

Novel writing, I’ve tried, time and again
Of course one needs discipline to do so
Various times I’ve began a novel, gave up
Each writer has their knack it would seem
Let me compose free verse and flash fiction
