TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS of LOVE....Day 21

Funny that I’d have conversational hearts as a Valentine’s word after Valentine’s Day but that’s how it popped up in the draw.  As a kid I loved (ok I still do) those sweet confections with the red printed words.  I think what made them fun was never knowing what message you’d get when popping one into your mouth.  I tried to remember some of the sayings for the first piece I did.  It then got me to thinking about a guy buying a few bags for a specific message to give a woman.  Both verses short and to the point.
Terry’s word of the day yesterday was CHINWAG.  I actually heard it before but never used it.  I did an acrostic piece on the word about getting together with friends.  In fact I used Friday’s Valentine’s word in the piece.
I had the most fun composing the wacky holidays piece.  It was Hoodie Hoo Day yesterday.  Now in my mind I pictured it about wearing hoodies.  How wrong I was.  Terry researched it before I could and she wrote a quick piece on it. Since it was something fun to do, I was heading out yesterday right before noon.  I stood in my yard at noon waving my arms in the air and shouted “Hoodie Hoo”.  My neighbor saw me then inquired how much did I have to drink already.  I explained all I had was coffee and he then inquired if it was Irish coffee.  Too funny indeed.  Although I was disappointed I did not have Jell-O shots available to celebrate the last day of Jell-O week.  I’ll make a note for next year.
As I think about the end of this month I feel slighted. Us February born queens and kings get gipped by a few days to celebrate our birthday month.  I mean most months have thirty-one days and four have thirty where us in February only twenty-eight although we get an extra day every four years.  Not fair! So I’m taking two extra days this year to celebrate; my birthday month now ends March second.
Today is Sunday; the first Sunday of Lent.
I recall during Lent we abstained from meat not only Fridays (which was normal anyhow) but Wednesdays as well.  One reason I enjoy tomato soup and grilled cheese now I guess got so use to it.   I had that for many a dinner time meal; baked fish and Mac’nCheese baked in the oven another favorite.  I loved the baked top of the dish best.  Homemade potato soup another favorite along with tuna casserole.  Of course living in Northeast Pennsylvania for over thirty years, haluski, pierogies and pizza a lent staple as well as New England and/or Manhattan clam chowder.  Friday night fish frys popular of course sponsored by the local fire companies or church.  Living here in the Bible Belt area, it’s hard to get accustomed to not having these things available.  Even the veterans organizations that have Friday evening dinners seem not to be meat free during Lent.  As my husband and I do meat fast also on Wednesdays, we have found it not easy.  Tuna hoagies (subs) make a good meal.  I’ve become rather partial to Buffalo shrimp from one local eatery. I have a Facebook friend who owns a eating establishment up in Pennsylvania well two in fact. The one showcases her food on social media (she makes me hungry at times). The other advertises her weekend specials and again my mouth waters.  Both make and sell pizza at their businesses so I know this is their busy time of year.
Well tomorrow for many it’s back to the grind.
Until next time....enjoy your day and as always Stay Safe.

TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS of LOVE....Day 20

 A Short Read Today!

The weekend has started.  It’s Saturday!  It was indeed a rainy afternoon yesterday.  I spent time trying to work on the following pieces. The Valentine’s word for yesterday was CHERISH.  There were quite a few songs with that as the title.  There are a few I like but my favorite is by the group The Association.   The word brings up thoughts of romance; to cherish someone. Also I find the word in that one should cherish their family.  It depends on how one wants to use it.  I used it two ways in the pieces below.  First that one should cherish family then in a more romantic way.
Terry’s daily word yesterday PUKKA.  Another word I never heard before; but after seeing the word and the definition, the piece If Only The Opportunity began to form in my mind.  I was able to use the Valentine’s word of the day along with Terry’s daily word.
My big challenge to try to do something with the wacky holidays.  So I came up with woman flirting with a guy as she toasts the landing day of the Marines at Iwo Jima.  It seemed it would be fun to do.  I had to do the flirting as I could not think of another way to use eye lashes in the piece.  My husband said I should have had her fishing out a false eyelash from her drink while sitting at the bar; no one pays her any mind as they all are too occupied with a John Wayne movie about Iwo Jima.  Good scenario but now wish I tried that idea.  I’m having challenges working the wacky holidays into play each day. But, it’s fun to do so.
Until tomorrow....enjoy the weekend and as always Stay Safe.

TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS of LOVE....Day 19

It’s Friday!  What a week.  The weather even in Florida weird.  Ok enough said about it.  I have prayers for all affected by the cold, snow and ice storms.  This week has been really sad.  Lost a great acquaintance from the 40&8.  Not all are COVID related issues these days. Then found another has to have knee surgery; another with a cyst pressing on the spine and yet another back in the hospital after getting COVID at a rehab facility.  I could go on but you get the point.
We are almost down to the wire with the Valentine’s words.  Yesterday we had LOVE SONGS as the word. I wrote short pieces about how romantic songs trigger memories and sometimes made us sad.  THE SINGER and UNTRUTH are part of the sequel pieces today.  Terry’s word yesterday was EQUIVOCATE but I used the past tense in the piece.
So far my Lenten act has been well but it’s only day two.  Who knows what others decide as they become recipients of my act of kindness.  I’m trying hard to be positive around people but it can get hard to shed those negative thoughts.  I’m trying hard to see positivity in everyone and situation.
As it is Friday and I’m wearing my red shirt to remember everyone deployed.  It has become so natural every Friday but I still post on Facebook to remind people.  I realized the other day I own more red shirts (plain, some with writings) dark red, bright red etc...than any other color.  Why? No clue.
Today I realize that in the wacky holiday list we are celebrating the day during WWII the Marines landed on Iwo Jima. I made sure to make post on my Amvets Facebook page and my own.
I hope everyone has a good day.
Until tomorrow....don’t forget to wear your red and Stay Safe.

TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS of LOVE....Day 18

It was Ash Wednesday yesterday.  I grew up in a Catholicism household.  During my youth, no meat on Ash Wednesday, Good Friday, as well every Friday and also on Wednesdays during Lent.  I still in a way abstain from meat every Friday.  Yesterday I went out for yet another birthday celebration but had shrimp.  This is just how I do things I guess.  We always had to give up something during Lent as well.  Usually my step-siblings and I gave up soda; any type of soda.
Last year I planned to do this, but with lockdown last year never really saw this through. An act of letting someone know they are thought about and someone cares.  This year I revised my list of one person for Lent’s forty-three days.  This depends if I’ll see them or be around them in person; or if I’d need to send text/personal message or social media message or something nice by either a surprise (cup of coffee, drink, little cheer up token).  Yesterday I sent an inspiration message and laugh to a friend. Today’s recipient is someone I’d be seeing in person; and will buy them a drink.  I’m thinking these little messages or in person doing something may just bring some cheer to their life.  Doing this can lift an individual’s spirit.
The Valentine’s word for yesterday was HONEY. I wrote a funny whimsical four line piece.  The acrostic is one where the ending is left to the reader on the outcome.  I like leaving things to the reader’s imagination.  It gives them opportunity to try different scenarios; stimulating the mind.
Terry’s word of the day PROGNOSTICATE.
I used it as another sequel to HER DECISION.  The guy has followed through with his plan; what will happen.
My husband is cheering for the guy with the Plan with a capital ‘P’ to win.  I’m still deciding on how to play it through.  Will she give Mr. Plan a chance? Will she not?
Until tomorrow....hope you all have a great day and as always Stay Safe.

TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS of LOVE....Day 17

I enjoyed my birthday.  I had a fantastic bacon cheddar cheese burger at one of my favorite places which gives veterans a discount plus free pitcher of beer on your birthday. Also I indulged in a specialty drink of the business which as indeed tasty.
The remaining part of the day quiet.
Birthdays are each persons personal New Year’s Day.  What can I say; they are the beginning of another year older.
Tomorrow the Lenten season begins.  Many will sustain from a certain food, drink or something they enjoy. This year my goal is to give or send one person a positive message.  I may do it in person or send via text, personal message or on their timeline; it could be a simple act of kindness or generosity but I plan to weed out toxic and negativity if possible.  I’ll keep you all posted on this endeavor.
The Valentine’s Day word for yesterday was LOVE POEM.  Both pieces focused on creating one. The verses titled HIS PLAN and MYSTERIOUS LADY are part of the HER DECISION pieces.  HIS PLAN focuses on how the guy who lost out plans to win her heart by writing a love poem. The MYSTERIOUS LADY focuses on using Terry’s word of the day ENIGMA.  The man who won her heart so far is indeed intrigued by her as to him she is an enigma. I play out in my mind the scenes of each as I think they’d be perceived.   Who knows I may end up with just a book of this woman and the two guys or add them in same book along with the lake pieces.
It’s Wednesday, Hump Day.
Until tomorrow....have a great day; and as always Stay Safe.

                   FOR YOU ONLY

I wrote a poem of love for you
to express  how I truly feel
The flowery words were rhyming
unfortunately they just seemed so unreal
Decided just to forget the rhyme
and tell you straight from the heart
That your are the love of my life
Now....
         always....
                 and forever

                       HIS PLAN

It really hurt him deep down inside
to see her with the other guy
She made her choice between them
his true feelings he would now have to hide
But he had a Plan with a capital  ‘P
to try to win her favor
If he won he would be ecstatic
but doing so required a lot of mental labor
Taking paper and a pen in hand
a romantic love poem he would compose
He’d tell her she was more lovely
than any type of a rose
For he thought her quite unique
a rare gem he discovered indeed
Could not believe he found himself an
        orchid
    hiding among all the weeds

                  MYSTERIOUS LADY

She was definitely a mystery to him
he had known her for at least a year
But never did seem interested
in him or anyone....or so it seemed
A few words here and there she’d
    speak....always about business only
Keeping her distance from getting too
     close....until now
Could her broken heart finally be
     healed....trying to find happiness again
Her surprisingly secret admirer card and gift
on Valentine’s Day more than shocking
But he welcomed it with enthusiasm
Such an enigma....he wanted to know her
       better
So he sent the text with the justification of
    being business related....but with the
mention of her as his secret admirer
Hoping it would lead to a relationship

TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS of LOVE....Day 16

Today is my birthday.  Yesterday I celebrated my Birthday Eve.  I went to my AMVETS post for hops and barley water (beer).  My favorite male bartender worked who I’ve nicknamed Mr. Hot & Spicy (it’s cause I hooked the guy on Middleswarth JalapeΓ±o potato chips).  Anyhow it was fun Birthday Eve event.
Today’s Valentine’s Day word was ROMANCE and/or ROMANTIC.  I did one of my lake pieces on this word. I think I really enjoy using Harveys Lake as my inspiration for these pieces. The second piece focuses on a romance and the guy in the in the woman’s life.
Terry’s daily word was ANIMOSITY.  I used it in a piece titled HER DECISION.  This is a sequel piece to HER SECRET from yesterday’s blog.  In this the woman made her choice on the two guys but I’m still not revealing which as I have envisioned more about her choice in future writings.
The wacky holiday piece was a little tricky but I think I pulled it off.
What do I plan for my birthday?  Going out for lunch where as veterans both hubby and I get a food discount; as birthday girl I get free pitcher of beer. Yeah to me.
As I type this I’m wearing my tiara as I’m the QUEEN today.
This is a short read as I prepare to do nothing particular but get ready for the day. It’s Mardi Gras (Fat Tuesday) as tomorrow the season of Lent begins.  So today let’s eat, drink and be merry for we must give up something for Lent; I’m giving up drinking for February 29, 30 and 31.  The remaining days of Lent giving up negative people.
Until tomorrow....enjoy the day.  Today is DO a GOUCH a FAVOR DAY so hope you comply; and as always Stay Safe.

He treated her like a queen....gave her the

Listened intently always to her hopes,
     schemes and dreams
Encouraged her to achieve her goals
They all thought he too old....she could do
        better

 They were acquaintances after all....not
best buds....but he did respected him
After all she made her choice between the
      two....did she choose wisely....he
        thought NO
He did not plan to see her for a few days
how could possible ask if she his
    secret admirer
But the other had an advantage he did
     not....her phone number....he sent
              her a text
Perhaps he should have sent a message via
         social media
He just politely thanked her for the Valentine
and the gift....with hope she’d eventually
          change her mind

TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS of LOVE....Day 15

Yesterday was Valentine’s Day. The word for yesterday was STVALENTINE.
The first piece is a history lesson verse about Saint Valentine.  I like history verses they are different and easy to read and comprehend.  The second writing is an acrostic.  This focuses on how hard it is to tell someone“I LOVE YOU” in a different manner.  Sometimes trying to come up with a new idea to convey this not easy. The way to say this is just to simply say “I LOVE YOU”.
Not everyone can come up with clever words or write poetic phrases.
The other piece focuses on a woman trying to decide between two men.  I took the gift ideas she gave from my giving out little tokens for Valentine’s Day to a few people. I laughed as I thought about how to get across her concepts of both guys gifts.  Was she thinking one was sweet and cute; the other hot and zesty?  I enjoyed this piece then thought about the real life recipients of the gifts. NO!   I do not think of either in that way but now I’ll need to analyze them sometime.  Its just that sometimes real events trigger what I compose.
My husband and I enjoyed our day at home with an Italian lunch he prepared and a few drinks. He did not watch the Daytona race but actually love type movies on one of the Hallmark channels.
I actually worked on my writing pieces and things for my Amvets volunteer job I do.  Then later I read awhile.  Neither of us felt going out the best thing on the day of hearts and flowers.
The wacky holiday piece centers on Valentine’s Day also.
Until tomorrow....have a good week; and as always Stay Safe.

 Associated with courtly love
Not only patron saint of Terni, Italy
     but epilepsy, beekeeping,
         plague and fainting as well
He is celebrated on February 14th
A day of the giving of cards, chocolates,
     flowers, romantic dinners and jewelry
to that special person in our life

                     ST. VALENTINE

Sometimes it’s hard to convey the flowery
      words in a different manner
To express our affections to that special
person who is important to us

Very often many just fumble through
as they try to come up with a witty idea
Although actions do speak louder than
words at times....they never seem to fail
Little gestures can mean a lot like a hug or
      kiss or soft caress
Even a handwritten letter....not typed or
       printed
Nice concept to disclose the feelings we
      perceive
Though some have issues with writing
         words as well as conversation
It seems they can never find just the
correct phrase to get their objective
           across
Nevertheless many keep trying to say
“I Love You” in clever ways
Every year many stress out when February
   14th rolls around....simply saying
            “I LOVE YOU” works best

                     HER SECRET

She crushed on two different guys
could not make up her mind
which one she liked the best
So on Valentine’s Day she gave them each
a gift and a valentine card signed
      ‘Your SecretAdmirer
The first to figure out who the gift giver
    the one she’d choose
To one she gave a box of chocolates
the other she gave a gift bag of hot and
        spicy snacks
She laughed as she thought about doing
so....were the gifts symbolic of how she
      perceived them?
Did she considered one luscious and cutesy
    the other zestful and fiery?
She’d never tell....her secret forever

        WACKY HOLIDAYS FEBRUARY 14th
(Valentine’s Day; National Cream Filled Chocolates Day; National Ferris Wheel Day and Daytona 500 Day)

Their love like a Ferris wheel
around and around they did go
Experiencing the ups and downs
   always weathering the stormy days
Valentine’s Day he gave up his watching
the Daytona 500 race to take her for a
      heart shaped pepperoni and mushroom
         pizza and beer
Gave her cream filled chocolates and wine
What more could she ask for....books would
   suffice
