AUGUST DAYS….Day 7

It’s Saturday and yes this is late. I hurt my back moving my husband yesterday at rehab. I should have called a nurse but no I did not.  So now I have a sore back; spent the morning laying on my heating pad. It’s my fault; I should not complain.  What a week for me hurting back and getting sick from a non-all beef hot dog.
I need to be more careful for sure.
This is just a short read.
Yesterday the vintage television show was THE HONEYMOONERS.  I always enjoyed this show.  I have always and will always associate Jackie Gleason with Ralph Kramden.  Yes I did enjoy him in the Smokey and The Bandit
movies but it’s Ralph Kramden I enjoyed him as the most.  One of my favorite episodes was Ralph trying to win the Halloween costume contest at the Raccoon Lodge.  Using the parts of the stove and pots and pans he thought he’d win being dressed like a man from outer space. In fact it was Norton who won dressed in his work clothes from the sewer as the space man. Ralph was mistaken as a pinball machine. They don’t make these shows anymore like this.
Until tomorrow….have a great rest of the day and as always Stay Safe.

AUGUST DAYS….Day 6

I should have known better.  I am thinking I got sick from a hot dog I ate.  I only can eat beef or turkey hot dogs.  Learned a hard lesson for sure.
I finally stopped vomiting and kept down crackers and ginger ale.
Now today I need to make up for what I did not do yesterday.  Well some of the items on my list that is.
I was excited about the vintage television show yesterday, OUR MISS
BROOKS. I actually thought when I watched it that high school must be that fun.  All the teachers were like Miss Brooks; no way.  My English teachers were indeed boring even though that was my favorite subject.  I loved the actress Eve  Arden.  I don’t ever recall seeing her as the leading actress but usually in a supporting type roll.  I think Miss Brooks was her biggest role that most can remember her doing. Although many May remember her in Grease as the principal.
It’s Friday and the first week of August sure sped.  My life is a routine these days with visiting my husband then doing stuff for the Amvets.  The working up of ads for their Facebook page isn’t too hard; it’s the coming up with something clever.  I think of it as a game at times.  Of course the adding of the daily lunch specials has created a bit more work.  Trying to figure out who is cooking or making certain items can be like pulling teeth.  Anymore if I don’t know the daily lunch,  I just say it’s a surprise.  Naturally there are people who will call to see what it is before heading over to find out.  Now if I were the individual answering the phone I’d say well come by to find out the surprise.  It’s those individuals who are just looking for a free lunch. Enough said!
Wear your red today as it’s Friday.
Until tomorrow….enjoy your day and as always Stay Safe.

AUGUST DAYS….Day 5

I think I got a twenty-four hour stomach bug or so I hope. I woke up about three in the morning very nauseous.  Later I ended up vomiting.  I hated this as I could not keep anything down. A decision made to call the rehab facility to let them know I’d not be coming to see my husband. I asked the nurse to give him the message. There was no way I’d go there feeling sick and possibly giving germs to the residents and nursing staff. Trying to sleep is impossible with my phone ringing. I need to keep it on in case of calls regarding my husband. I finally got a few hours but still feeling tired.  At least I’m keeping crackers and soda down.
I had plans for today but looks like I’ll just do them next Thursday.  The plans centered around picking up taco salads (only available on Thursday) from the Legion for few people.
Yesterday the vintage television show was MY LITTLE MARGIE.  The show aired when I turned one and from what I read it aired until 1955.  I think I might have seen an episode but not sure.  If I did see one episode I would have been three or four years old.  I’d love to see an episode today.  Would I find it lame or amusing? I wonder.  I think a channel on television should be reserved to air old vintage shows.  No doubt I’d be glued to it.
Until tomorrow….have a great rest of the day; as always Stay Safe.

AUGUST DAYS….Day 4

Yesterday it seemed like every time I wanted to get out of my car for errands it would rain. I sat for ten minutes at one place for it to stop. I think I may need to invest in a rain outfit such as a rain poncho like I had years ago; of course I’d pass on the boots and the use of umbrella.  Don’t feel safe using one here in Florida. I do have these cheaply made plastic ponchos I picked up for a few dollars but they are flimsy; a big garbage bag would be better. Not that I haven’t done that before.

ED SULLIVAN SHOW the vintage television show for yesterday.  I could not wait on Sundays for it to be time to watch the show.  Ed had some of the best acts.  When I think of the show the movie “Bye Bye Birdie” comes to mind. In the movie they did a segment where Birdie was to be on Ed Sullivan. The scene where the ballet was dancing in fast time so funny.  Ed Sullivan Show was when I first saw the Beatles perform.  Shows like that aren’t on television anymore. Such a shame.
This morning it’s raining hard again. I plan to wait it out before going anyplace. Perhaps I’ll have lunch then head out about one.  It’s not I care about getting wet, it’s the driving when one can’t see; as well as careless drivers.
Until tomorrow….have a great day and as always Stay Safe.

AUGUST DAYS….Day 3

Yesterday as I drove down US 27 a black car weaved from behind me to in front of me then again to get in front of the next car.  That driver almost cause an accident, only to be stopped at the red light. He did not get much further than us as us who were right behind him.  I don’t know why people are in such a hurry to get nowhere quick. In fact he never got past any other vehicles due to the eighteen wheelers on the road in all three lanes.  I ended up behind him until I made my turn; which was six miles after I ended up behind him. Today it’s raining and I’ve found some people can’t drive in the rain.  I use to think it’s was drivers in snow until I moved to Florida.  Let’s say enough said on drivers for today.

The LITTLE RASCALS was the vintage television show from yesterday.  Actually they started out as short films back in the day.  I’ve never told anyone but I wanted a dog like Petey. I loved how he looked for some reason. Like most old shows or movies a modern version of the Little Rascals was done.  To be truthful, I had no qualms about the remake and I for one enjoyed it.
It was a simpler time when these neighborhood kids came together as a group; there was no problem with them being of a different ethnic race or color or social standing. But this is just my thoughts on the subject.
As I sit typing this I hear rain hitting the window.  I know it’ll be one of those days for sure.
Until tomorrow….think about some old vintage television shows and which were your favorite; as always Stay Safe.

AUGUST DAYS….Day 2

It’s Monday again.  Today a new week begins.  What will this week bring in way of surprises?  I’m anticipating that is definite.
A few days ago looking out the window I watched the clouds as they floated through the sky. I’ve always enjoyed just watching how they can change shapes from one thing to another.  I remember my fascination began in eight grade. I sat next to the windows.  After doing a test one day, I sat staring out the window.  I watched as fluffy clouds floated in the sky.  I can’t recall the shapes, but noticed how they changed. The other day I again watched how a poodle seemed to become a sheep and a flower seemed to loose petals. Again I’ve done a timed writing and did it about clouds.
This is going to be an interesting month for Terry’s daily word.  This month is vintage television shows. Yesterday it was the original MICKEY MOUSE CLUB. I wanted to be a Mouseketeer like Karen and Annette.  I remember living with my aunt and uncle; I took one of my male cousin’s white tee shirt and printed my name on it with a black crayon.  The cousin was upset at first but laughed; my aunt not so much but she too thought it clever and funny.
Naturally I did get punished; sent to my room and not able to watch television.
Of course that wasn’t as bad as finding green food coloring in my Grandma Fisher’s kitchen cabinet and going into the bathroom to dye my hair. Please understand I was only four at the time and not a six year old with the white tee shirt. How memories pop into your head with only the mention of a movie or television show. I can’t wait to find out today’s show.
Until tomorrow….take a moment to look at the clouds and enjoy your day; as always Stay Safe.

AUGUST DAYS….Day 1

July has come to an end. August begins today. I’m not sure where the month has gone.  It seems like it just begun; I was at the July E-Board meeting now today I’m going to the August meeting.  The days are speeding by so quickly.
July’s vintage cartoons were interesting and some brought back memories of my childhood. I’m looking forward to Terry’s August words.  You’ll find this out tomorrow what she has up her sleeve.  Of course with the heat she may not be wearing sleeves so let’s say what is in her brain.
The last cartoon for July was the SMURFS
I enjoyed watching the cartoon on Saturdays while having my coffee. For some strange reason it cleared my head from the work week prior.  It’s funny how different things can trigger and help a person unwind.  I’m not sure if the Smurfs would help me clear my mind these days or not.  The past few weeks while having coffee I’ve been watching the Game Show Channel and the old game show “PRESS YOUR LUCK”. Today it’s the Hallmark Movie and Mysteries Channel and the show “Monk”. I always enjoy the antics of the main character but really enjoyed the character Randy Disher, the police lieutenant. I’ve always felt that Randy tried really hard to prove himself. Every time I watch this show I fondly think of my cousin-in-law Johnny.  This was a show he enjoyed watching.  As I sit typing this, watching the show I feel relaxed; if only for a short time.  Today is the monthly Executive Board meeting at the Amvets; after I’ll visit with my husband.  This visit will be later than usual but I think he understands the reason I’m late.
The piece I composed was inspired by what my husband can view from his window at rehab. We watched as birds flew to a bird feeder then squirrels getting into it. We watched birds splash in a birdbath. I wrote that piece as a time piece something I’ve not done for awhile.
I hope everyone enjoys their Sunday.
Until tomorrow….do something different today that you don’t usually do; and as always Stay Safe.

JULY JEWELS….Day 31

The weekend has arrived for those who work all week.  It’s Saturday!  Recently a veteran at the Amvets remarked when one is retired everyday is a Saturday.  Sometimes I am at a loss on what the day of the week is.  It gets really out of hand when there is a holiday involved in the middle of the week.
Today is another day of visiting with my husband.  I don’t have any pressing errands today, well one but I can get it done as long as I do it by five (the places closes then). Today I’ll going to visit around eleven not ten like yesterday.  Again I made it for physical therapy.  I like being there to see what they are doing and how my husband responses.
I have no idea why people drive so insanely.  Yesterday people weaving in and out of traffic; no idea where they are going in such a hurry.  I hope some make it safely with their erratic maneuvers.  I’ve always felt if you have to be someplace try to leave earlier and arrive safe.  Better to be late than cause a traffic accident or worse fatality.
Yesterday the cartoon of the day was RICHIE RICH. I never really thought much about the cartoon or the comic. It was just a kid who had money.  Never found it funny; but that is my opinion.  Again another cartoon that got made into a movie.  Today is the final day of vintage cartoons/comics. I’m looking forward to which one will end the month.
Hope you have a great day.
Until tomorrow….have a great weekend; and as always Stay Safe.

JULY JEWELS….Day 30

Another typical Florida summer day yesterday. The beautiful morning turned into a rainy afternoon.  It seems every time I leave visiting my husband the weather turns nasty. It doesn’t matter what time I leave, it begins to rain. Yesterday wasn’t as bad as the past few days, but bad enough.
This is a late blog. I decided to try to visit my husband at ten. I wanted to be there for physical therapy. He’s having a sleepy day. I don’t know what I can do. Nothing definitely I can do. Prayers are helpful to help him through this. Prayers help to see me through this. I am trying to stay strong but there are times I just can’t. Yes I’ve had crying breakdowns and don’t let anyone know how I feel.  I don’t want to bother others with my piddly problems. Ok enough said.
I wrote about how each morning it’s sunny and bright but by afternoon the weather louder. It’s Florida for you.
FAT ALBERT was yesterday’s cartoon. I said it all in three sentences.
It’s Friday and I am wearing my red.
As I sit typing this while my husband naps, I see out the window it’s going to rain. Of course it’s going to rain sometime soon.
Until tomorrow….have a good day and as always Stay Safe.

JULY JEWELS….Day 29

Yesterday was stressful again. I needed junk food after my healthy lunch. As I said in my thoughts desserts is stressed spelled backwards. I was there during my husbands therapy and will try to be there today.  Find it good for me to see what’s happening.
Another rainy afternoon for me. I waited out the storm before heading home from the Amvets.  I knew if I timed it right I could leave before another downpour.  It worked too. I pulled into my driveway; as I walked inside it came down like buckets.
Terry’s vintage cartoon is one of my favorites.  I enjoyed and still enjoy that Great Dane, SCOOBY-DOO. The gang is ok but Scooby makes the show. As for making this into a movie, I was not a fan.  Again another cartoon made into movie I did not enjoy.  If I could relate to any of the gang it would be Velma. I like the brainy person she is. The smartest of them all; except Scooby.
Today is Friday Eve.
Until tomorrow….have a good day and as always Stay Safe.

JULY JEWELS….Day 28

Hump Day!  Whew it’s been a roller coaster the past few days for me.  Hope today I’ll be able to get a few errands done after my visit with my husband.  As he likes visits around eleven, today I’ll be there at that time.  I’ll do what I need after visiting him.  Actually his visits must come first.  I just hope no rain today.
Yesterday the vintage cartoon was ATOM ANT.  Don’t know anything about it or watched it. In my opinion I guess he was a super powered insect.  Enough said.
Cartoons were fun to watch as a kid on Saturday mornings while having breakfast.  But when I was growing up, we had chores that we needed to do after having breakfast and before any playtime on a Saturday.  We hardly saw many cartoon shows.  One incentive to watch them on Saturday was to hurry through breakfast and do our chores so we could enjoy television.  I don’t think today kids have chores to do.  No I did not live on a farm but in the city and suburbs.  Saturday was changing our bedding day for Monday wash day; cleaning our bedroom and making sure our school clothes ready for the coming week; and yes make sure our homework done.  It was different in the summer when we had no homework or school clothes to worry about.  Chores shaped us into being responsible and learning to do things on our own.
Until tomorrow….enjoy your day and as always Stay Safe.

JULY JEWELS….Day 27

I come to the conclusion whenever I need to be going out it rains. I usually put off the errand till the next day.  I’ll see when I’m ready to go out if there’s rain. Some days it’s just what it is.  I’m certain it’ll rain later today as always.  This is just Florida in summer.
My week again is busy.  One thing after another for certain.  I just need one day for not having to run any place. Enough on my piddle paddle life.
I have not much to say about yesterday’s cartoon GEORGE of the JUNGLE.  I felt it a take off on Tarzan. I like the Tarzan movies.  This George a klutz compared to him.
The month of vintage cartoons is coming to an end.  Not sure what will be today’s; hope it’s something I watched and enjoyed. Like TV shows I gave cartoons a chance if they were on my like list or not. After watching a few episodes I could tell.  George of the Jungle not on my list of likes.
Well it’s Tuesday. I’m debating if I want to play bar poker tonight or not. It’ll depend on my mood.
Until tomorrow….have a good day and as always Stay Safe.

JULY JEWELS….Day 26

Another week begins today. I wonder what unforeseen problems will arise. Seems some new issue pops up each week. I’m ready for what happens; or hope I am. What more can my husband go through?  Now it’s the possibility of having seizures from the scar damage from the stroke. At least the first seizure happened while he was at the hospital for outpatient services. I’m thankful for that indeed.  It could have been worse; it could have occurred while he was in the transport back to rehab. Unfortunately he has a new med to now take.  I’m in a state of stress over this all.  It just can’t even imagine anything else for him to encounter.
I keep praying; I know prayer is a good healer and helper.
TENNESSEE TUXEDO was yesterday’s vintage cartoon.  I enjoyed the show.  Loved the voice of Don Adams as the penguin.  Some cartoons were always enjoyable to watch even as an adult. They seemed to make me forget my problems for a while. I know a lot of individuals are not cartoon enthusiasts but they have always been for me.  Like a good comedy show cartoons made us laugh; as well as comics.
Ok here’s something I’ve never told anyone but when I read a newspaper I first read the obituaries then the comics the news comes after.  It may be strange but it is how I roll.
It’s Monday….enjoy the day.
Until tomorrow….hope you have a great week and as always Stay Safe.

JULY JEWELS….Day 25

It’s Sunday.  Another day in my soap opera life.  Visiting my husband today.  Not sure how long today’s visit will be. I think I’ll need to bring water and a snack in case like yesterday I get hungry.
I’m quite still appalled about the free lunch at my vets club.  I have not been there since Wednesday.  I decided to stop by just to see what’s going on there and give an update on my husband. Heard one individual complain that no lunch left in the crock pot (this was about 6pm). Not sure what they thought at that time of the day. Another female said she’ll have to come early Sunday just to get something to eat as nothing ever left.  Then remarked about the possibly of calling the bartender to put stuff away for her.  I almost fell over. What gall.
As I was giving a few people the update on my husband, one person broke into the conversation talking about how they had the same thing happen to them.  Only this individual’s issue was double.  There are people who have to up you on just about everything.
I’m getting ready for my day so making a short read.
Yesterday morning after seeing Terry’s cartoon of the day, the theme song to MAGILLA GORILLA played over and over in my head. I always enjoyed this show but not sure why.  One reason is that he never left the pet store for any length of time.  People would bring him back after a short period of time. I always had hopes he’d finally get to a permanent home.
Until tomorrow….make the most of your Sunday; and as always Stay Safe.

Shame that Mr. Peebles could never sell him

Though I think if he were really sold

JULY JEWELS….Day 24

It’s Saturday!  Let’s hope that Murphy’s Law does not show up today. It happened yesterday morning when I banged my already hurt knee into the door. I was being klutzy as usual. So of course iced it but I needed to be out and about.  It did not help. I put it up later in the day. It feels better so I’ll see how the day goes.
Yesterday Terry gave us PINK PANTHER as the cartoon of the day.  I enjoyed watching the cartoon; but I also enjoyed the movies with Peter Sellers.  Seems to me a few cartoons were made into movies with live actors.   I think there is something lost in the movie with actors. I found the movie with Peter Sellers was made first then the cartoon series. I did enjoy the Pink Panther movie made with Steve Martin also.  One of the few cartoon and live actor movies I enjoyed.
With me again having a busy day, I’m making this a short read today.  Some time today I have to stop at a store, after visiting my husband. I need to get the lunch schedule for the next weeks Amvets ads and write a few checks.
Busy day indeed for me.  I’m hoping for a more quiet day tomorrow.
It is the weekend so make the most of it.
Until tomorrow….have a great day and as always Stay Safe.
