FAREWELL to VALENTINES DAY

Valentine’s Day is in the past.  Today the stores will put candy and other items for Valentine’s Day on sale.  Already the stores are gearing up with decorating items and things to wear for St. Patrick’s Day.  There is no candy involved for this holiday but sure bakery items will be sold depicting the holiday.  This would be cookies in shape of shamrocks generally sugar cookies with green sugar; or cookies with green icing. Perhaps liquor stores will have special sales on Irish Whiskey or Irish Cream.  Let’s not forget those who brew beer with Irish name labels.  Of course we need to get through Fat Tuesday aka Mardi Gras first.  Mardi Gras which is March 5th before we can begin our celebration for St. Patrick’s Day.  Stores already have items to celebrate Mardi Gras as well as I’ve seen items being sold for March 17th.   Easter candy has been available in a few places.  I’ve already been asked to bring jelly beans and robins eggs to the veteran’s club I frequent.
The Fourteen Days of Valentines I celebrated were fun.  I enjoyed each days little surprise.
Yesterday my husband made a pasta lunch for me.  It was better than going out to a restaurant cause he made the meal from the heart.  What I enjoyed I did not have to dress up; wait forever to be served and leftovers would not be put into a styrofoam carton to bring home causing more trash for me.  Also I could enjoy the meal while watching a romantic movie on television or just listening to soft music.  No background noise from others in a restaurant and NO server asking every time I had a mouthful of food how everything was.  Yes he did a great job for sure. We each had a glass of our favorite wine and Valentine’s Day cupcakes for dessert. Later we had errands to run so I took him for a few afternoon cocktails at one of our veteran’s clubs. Yes both of us got away cheap BUT it’s the thought that counted and not the expense.
If your are thinking ahead to next Valentine’s Day and the Fourteen Days of Valentine’s well you should hit the stores now for the sale items.  That is what my husband did for some items he gave me this year; and I gave him. Both of us have one storage box for things pertaining to holidays where we keep holiday clothing we wear for different holidays.  It’s never to early to think ahead.
Well right now my mind is gearing up for my birthday tomorrow.  I am Queen for the day and I’ll proudly wear my tiara.  So I’ll look ridiculous when I go out; who cares. After that it’s Mardi Gras time and the beginning of my Lenten fast.  What will I do this year? Give up something I like or be more charitable and do good deeds?  I am considering an act of kindness for each of the days.  Stay tuned to see what I do.
