THANKFUL DAY....Day Five

Today is National Doughnut/Donut Day as well as Stout (Beer) Day. I was curious about the spelling of doughnut/donut and found it came up more as doughnut. It doesn’t matter to me how it’s spelled as it’s pronounced the same.  I’ve always enjoy donuts (yes that’s how I spell it).  My favorite have always been a cream filled with glaze coming in second.  Now if I want to dunk or sink a donut in my coffee, which I’ve done, it has to be the plain cake.  I’ve heard different names over the years for donuts crullers is one but dunkers and sinkers always my favorite slang for them. I always wondered why people associate police with donuts and vice versa.  Well I researched it. Now I’m not telling what I found out as it’s up to you do Google this yourself.  The answer I found was close to what I heard over the years.  

As being Stout day, I am not a fan of stout beer.  Tried it twice and all I can say is “yuck”!  But then again, it’s my preference so perhaps someone else enjoys it.  This morning my husband had himself a sinker as he calls it. He does not care for anything but the plain cake donut and in occasion he’ll have a few donut holes.  To celebrate today I had a dunker.

Today be thankful for your health.  You may not feel up to par, but there is someone who could be worse than you.  Be thankful you can get out of bed and do things.  Never take for granted how you feel.  Be thankful you can be part of the day.

Doughnuts come in many varieties never 

      easy to choose which to pick

Oh so many choices, plain, glazed, filled or 

     frosted 

   

Understand the best do come from the 

        bakery or donut shop 

Glazed are a favorite of many, chocolate 

          with sprinkles for the kids 

How they have evolved from the fried in oil 

      sweetened dough

Nowadays there are doughnut holes       

     available to enjoy as well 

       

Undecided today if I should have Boston 

      Cream or glazed

Then again I could have both since I’m          

       having two cups of coffee

Doughnut or donut ....what’s in the spelling 

Officially it is doughnut....but is it that 

      important 

 

No matter how it’s spelled....it’s pronounced 

        the same

Understand that the spelling doesn’t take 

      away from how good they taste

 Truth be known I heard them called 

       ‘sinkers’ and ‘dunkers’

Sinkers, dunkers, donuts or doughnuts, give 

       me a Boston Cream

 Doughnut day or donut day, celebrate the 

        wacky holiday 

And truthfully I spell it D-O-N-U-T

You can spell it D-O-U-G-H-N-U-T....but 

      will they taste differently

STOUT DAY

Sometimes a cold pale draft brew hits the 

         spot

Then again an ice cold longneck would 

        suffice 

Of all the varieties available I can’t make up 

       my mind

Usually I choose low carb or a light less       

      calorie beer 

Though I know I’ll never pick a stout
