TWENTY-EIGHT DAYS of LOVE....Day 11

Lovebirds was the Valentine’s Day word for February the tenth.  I thought about the birds in general which are members of the parrot family.  From what I read about them they are best kept as a pair.
I also wondered why some couples are called lovebirds.  I found out due to the strong affection they show their partner.
I thought about couples I’ve known over the years, I really have one couple in my mind that fits the ticket.  Yes I’ve seen others that come close but this couple has from the first I’ve met them.
My birthday comes two days after Valentine’s Day; my step-son day after.  One year a local American Legion in the area where we lived in Pennsylvania had a kitchen where they sold meals. One year for Valentine’s Day they offered a really good deal on a surf and turf dinner.  As it was Valentine’s Day, the two birthdays and away to pay back friends, we decided to have everyone meet at the Legion for supper.  My step-son, his other half, our friends (a couple) and us two arrived within ten minutes of each other. Low and behold but what a shock as the place not crowded as we expected.  It seemed the advertising for this special meal went unnoticed by many.  We thought the place was packed in the area where food was being sold due to the parking issue; only to find the canteen (bar area) was packed. We had a really nice meal and drinks with good service. In fact, for at least twenty minutes we were the only ones taking advantage of the Valentine’s meal special.  Finally a few people began to trickle in to have dinner.  I’m not sure what day of the week that year Valentine’s came but it seemed the Legion had the same special that Friday; yes we did go back for another dinner; this time only the two of us.
My opinion about the special at the Legion were people were more interested to go out to a more upscale place for the six ounce lobster tail and six ounce ribeye; paying possible double than what the club charged.   When it comes down to going out for Valentine’s Day, I think some people are just snobbish having to go to the most expensive place.  Valentine’s Day is just another opportunity for businesses to ‘cash in’.  I know I’ve said it before.  Actually after that year, we have actually celebrated Valentine’s Day the day before or after.  My reasoning I want my own day of celebrating.
My two pieces on lovebirds centered around couples so in love.
Terry’s word for the day was HORNSWOGGLED.  I wrote about a woman receiving dinner meet invitation and wrong type flowers only to find the man in her life at dinner with another woman.  It can be taken two ways; he wanted to get caught or he was going to rush off the first date for the next.
The piece with wacky holidays from yesterday included.
Until tomorrow....have a nice day and as always Stay Safe.

                      LOVEBIRDS

Everyone called them the Lovebirds
Always together whenever possible
Staring constantly into one another’s eyes
Laughing at the most silliest things
Making toasts with their glasses of wine
Holding hands when they walked together
After fifty years still acting like they were
    just dating

                        LOVEBIRDS

Lovebirds they were for over forty years
Only ever had eyes for one another
Valentine sweethearts since grade school
Every year he would give her two dozen
     chocolate kisses
Buy her one red rose and hand make a
      Valentine
It never changed, year after year on
     February fourteenth
Risky, he changed it up this year as a
      surprise
Decided on a silver kiss pendant on a chain
Store purchased card and a dozen roses

                        THE CHEAT

He deceived her on Valentine’s Day
Sending her an invitation to meet him
   for dinner at eight
She was bamboozled receiving a dozen red
    roses....not her favorite flowers
         her favorite roses of lavender
But what disappointed her....arriving for the
      date early
Hornswoggled that he was there dining
      with another....her best friend

   WACKY HOLIDAYS FEBRUARY 10th
(Plimsoll Day; National Umbrella Day; All The
News That’s Fit to Print Day and National
        Cream Cheese Brownie Day)

It is not fun to celebrate Plimsoll day when
   it’s raining
don’t want to be on the water
But it’s a joy to walk in the rain carrying a big
    red umbrella
After my early morning stroll I’ll indulge with
a cup of hot tea and a cream cheese
          brownie
Then I’ll read the online newspaper
see what malarkey they’re putting out
      today
