NATIONAL POETRY MONTH....Day Five

Again today's poem comes from my life.  Sometimes I feel I am writing my memories as poems.
In Florida sandhill cranes are an endangered species.  They travel in pairs as they mate for life. It's not strange to see sometimes two large and a small one or two together.  My first encounter was the year I moved to Florida. The traffic traveling past my house came to an almost standstill. I had no idea why.  My first thought was an accident. I looked out my window and saw what I thought were storks. I went outside to get a better look and the next door neighbor informed me they birds were called Sandhill Cranes or Sand Cranes (for short I guess).
My poem today tells of an incident a few days prior to today.
Enjoy!
Until tomorrow.....have a wonderful day.

I hit the brakes.....I stop along the
        lake road
Cars in the opposite lane
suddenly come to a stand still
We sit in our vehicles....peer out
      our windows
 Slowly sauntering across the
      road
No cares do they seem to have
While looking at us sitting in our
         automobiles
Their spindly legs carry them to
the other side of the street
Strolling to the lake for an afternoon adventure
A father, mother and two little siblings
 The Sand Crane family
