NATIONAL POETRY MONTH....Day Two

Today is Day Two of National Poetry Month. Today's poem I composed comes from one of the  'wacky/weird' holidays for April. April 2nd is NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER and JELLY DAY.  As a kid I loved peanut butter and jelly sandwiches; in fact I still do today only on either rye or whole wheat bread. I have always liked grape jelly best but strawberry comes in a close second. As for peanut butter, I have never cared for the crunchy style. Just give me the plain old creamy on my sandwich. I recall making saltines with both jelly and peanut butter as a snack.  For some reason the thought of a good old PB&J brings out the child in me. Makes me reminisce of my youth. In honor of it being the holiday of peanut butter and jelly I wrote today's poem about it.
Enjoy!
Until tomorrow....have a peanut butter and jelly sandwich while you read a poem.

I sit down for lunch.....
a much needed break from my
       busy schedule
 On a white plastic plate.....
    a sandwich cut in quarters
just like Grandma use to do
But instead of white bread.....
the bread today is whole wheat
What's between those two slices
     of whole wheat....is what
           matters most
  Peanut butter and grape jelly
In honor of NATIONAL PEANUT BUTTER and JELLY DAY
Taking a bite....closing my eyes....
  I savor the delicious reminder
      of my younger days
A cold glass of milk to drink.....
     Two chocolate chip
          cookies for dessert....
I feel like a kid again.....if only for
       a few moments
