NATIONAL POETRY MONTH....Day Twenty-Seven

Today I’m doing a tribute to Dorothy Parker.  I became acquainted with her works about fifteen years ago when I found one of her quotes; my favorite about martinis.  I then began to read some of her poems.  I did a tribute piece to the martini quote which I’m putting at the end of this blog.  I think I like her humorous pieces best.  I read a few I thought deep pieces but I still am a fan of her other works.  The past few days we’ve had rain, which I’ve mentioned before.  Seems things popped into my head about rainy and stormy days.  I pieced together some fragments into yesterday’s poem.  Today I took it a step further about how the rain brought up memories of days long past.  In a way it could be part two of yesterday’s piece ‘FOUL WEATHER’; well
in a way it is the next part.  Who knows I may be working on part three sometime.
Certain things, a rain storm, snow storm, a scent, phrase or even how a person looks can trigger memories.  The rain theme seemed to bring on ideas of this actually happening to someone.

DISCLAIMER:  THIS PIECE IS NOT
             REFLECTIVE OF MY LIFE

My three line thought still comes from the weather the past few days.  As for my lawn needing mowing, my neighbor does it and he doesn’t take any money. (We pay him in case of beer once a month.)
Poetry month is on its last few days.  I may continue doing a poem a day or every other  while the quarantine is still in effect.

Day 27....THREE LINE THOUGHT

Rain continued again yesterday....finally the
       sun makes an appearance today
Rain much needed to make flowers
       grow....my grass getting high
Hope my lawn person can cut this week....
   he’s already been paid

I thought of YOU today
as the booming thunder jolted me
When the flash of lightning lit up the
         afternoon sky
    YOU came to mind today
as the patter of rain drops hit my
           window pane
I remembered a rainy day with YOU
Just us....alone in a cottage by the lake
Sipping wine....listening to music on the
       battery operated transistor radio
         slow dancing....talking and laughing
While outside the door a storm raged
A loud crack of thunder startling us
    we stopped our dance
as darkness fell upon us inside
No power....
we lit candles and the hurricane
         lamp
Sitting close to one another on the old
    faded blue couch
we talked of our tomorrows together
          as the wine kept flowing
One bottle....two....
did not matter....no where to go
(Weather outside not fit for beast or man)
Late into the night we enjoyed the
     closeness
knowing that from that day forth YOU
             were mine....only mine
                I was yours....only yours
I thought of YOU today
As the rain continued splattering against
        the windows
Another rainy day came to mind
 The day YOU said Good-bye

     I love to drink Margaritas
        But never more than four
            Five gets me feeling woozy
Drinking six I’m on the floor
