It’s the first day of April. April is designated as National Poetry Month. As in years past I have taken the challenge to compose a poem a day. It is not always an easy task to do. I’ve also decided to do a short three line thought (as I did few years back). Like years past, some poems will come from real life issues or a memory of my life as I once termed it. Hopefully I’ll post each days poem if possible but will make certain my three line thought is ready for in this blog.
As we begin April, we need to take a moment to think about what April means to us. For me, April is tax due month; it’s Earth Day celebrations, Easter and showers to help flowers grow in May. April first was the birthday of my maternal grandfather and the twenty-second the birthday of my step-father who my mother married when I was in second grade. Most importantly April is poetry month which in past years I celebrated with all out events. I gave away bookmarks with one of my poems on it; did poetry night; participated in ‘Poem in Your Pocket Day’, read two poems by different poets each and put up my National Poetry Month poster. This year with the quarantine/stay-at-home order I won’t be doing poetry night or ‘Poem in Your Pocket Day” or evening giving away bookmarks. It’s best to be safe.
As it’s Day One and April Fools Day my thought for the day centered around that. My first days poem centers around the news.
Until tomorrow.....enjoy the day and be safe.
