Fifty-one years ago today, man landed on the moon. I remember well where I was that day. Glued around the tv like everyone to watch this historic event. It was amazing. I realized afterwards that oh I have to go to work tomorrow. I felt it should have been a holiday; it wasn’t but it should. Never did I realize in less than a month a totally different event would take place that also changed the lives of many. It’s something to think about today.
Well it’s another week and another writing challenge from my husband. This week he suggested a piece written each day using one of the wacky/weird holidays of the day as the main theme. Today wasn’t too hard except it was a twenty minute timed piece. I decided on National Lollipop Day as the theme. As a kid I remember these lollipops called Safety Pops that were round with a loop handle instead of a stick. They were my favorite. Getting a lollipop when I felt sad always cheered me up. Today I like having an occasional Tootsie Roll pop or a heart shaped cherry one (find these Valentines Day). My credit union (pre-COVID-19) had lollipops for customers. I’d always take a few for myself. There are so many different types to choose from and different brands.
The JULY piece is about alcohol that the brand names begin with a ‘J’. It is a whimsical piece actually. It’s not like I drink all those brands; only the bourbon brands.
Yesterday was National Ice Cream Day, today is National Ice Cream Soda Day. Enjoy a delicious ice cream soda in this heat.
Until tomorrow...yes it my Jack Day; but Jack will help me cope with the news.

So many varieties to choose from
don’t know which to pick
I will hold it in my hand and lick and lick and
lick
One that will last all day, or one with
bubble gum
Then I can blow big bubbles that would be
such fun
Maybe one with a chocolate filled center
so gooey and so tasty
I take my time to get to it, don’t want to be
too hasty
Cherry flavor, orange or grape it depends
on the brand
I always have a variety of different ones on
hand
Various shapes to choose from oval,
rectangular, heart and round
If you prefer oblong, sure it can be found
One of my favorite childhood treats
candy on a stick
Cheered me up when I was sad, always did
the trick
Lollipop or sucker, call it whatever you may
Just know I’m having one for a snack to
celebrate today
