SPREADING HOLIDAY CHEER....Day 15

FOOD BOX ITEM DAY 15....Can or two of
         yams

SPREADING HOLIDAY CHEER
DAY 15.....Do a favor for neighbor

Holiday Word(s) of The
    Day....GINGERBREAD/GINGERBREAD MAN/GINGERBREAD HOUSE

I was never a person who could eat the beautiful gingerbread house.  I think of it as a decoration.  It takes time to create and then to test it apart to eat, I can’t see it.
The last few days I was out doing my Ms. Santa thing.  I think some people were surprised to see me doing so.  Unfortunately it’s not like in years past. No Santa outfit.  But I did surprise many with the little gift ornament; and of course a box of chocolates for a certain male chocoholic bartender.  This year I got wise and purchased the chocolates as soon as I saw the BOGO instead of last minute like last year.  I can put them in the refrigerator so that was no problem.
Again I am doing a bit of history lesson on gingerbread in general. I was curious how making the houses came about.  What inspired the creating of them.  I like a gingerbread cookie during the holidays.  Of course my favorite cookies are sugar cookies; cut out cookies.
Do a neighbor a favor today. It could be small like helping them with a chore; run an errand for them.  Anything you may think would help them out.
My first piece on the story of gingerbread explains how it came about for houses.  Interesting story for sure.  The second piece is a cutesy piece about a gingerbread couple and cookie thoughts. It came to me about 3:00am and I needed to get it down.
My Christmas memory is from when I did Santa letters.
Unfortunately I could not watch the Army-Navy game due to fact the local station airing it no longer with my service provider but I did keep getting updates from a sports app I have.
I hope everyone has a great Sunday.
Until tomorrow....as always Stay Safe.

Letters from Santa
I began doing Santa letters to my grandchildren, relatives and children of friends.  It was quite fun. At the time I began I’d send the children a coupon for something free from McDonalds but as years went on it would be a little item such as a coloring book or ornament. There are a few funny Santa letter stories.
One most recent occurred in Florida.  I did the letters for individuals at a local eatery we frequented.  What I do is divide the list boys and girls then go by age. In the letters I mention Santa’s favorite cookies and beverage.  The cookies are either sugar cookies or chocolate chip; beverage milk or orange juice.  Unfortunately I had ended up with a family that had to leave both milk and OJ plus two types of cookies.  The following year I was asked to please not do it.  Problem was the mother did not make chocolate chip and had to run out for store purchased; my bad.
The one year while still in Pennsylvania, our cousins daughter was a recipient of a Santa letter.  I told her Santa liked sugar cookies (or cut our Christmas cookies) and milk but Santa would be at her Uncle Johnny’s house first.  Santa would be hungry so he’d appreciate a piece of pizza and a cold beer; plus carrots for the reindeer.  What I did was also send Johnny a letter with the same.  The little girl had received her letter and called Johnny to inform him of Santa’s instructions.  He had received his letter and told her so.  I thought it funny she never asked why her mom and dad did not get a Santa letter but her unmarried uncle did.
The letter I sent to my grandsons mentioned Santa wanted pizza and beer.  Unfortunately the family had no pizza at home nor the specific beer Santa requested.  The older, Michael, seemed upset as they left our home on Christmas Eve.  He said they needed to go for Santa’s pizza.  I had already had everything ready as I handed him two slices of pizza and a beer.
I did not do mention specific foods in the future letters only milk, OJ, cookies and carrots.  It’s been a few years since I’ve done Santa letters, but all in all it was a fun experience to do so.
One thing interesting doing a letter years ago for acquaintance for her grandson. I mentioned all the things he liked.  It was probably the last letter he received before not believing.  Funny I can’t believe how long it ago it was as I see photos his mom posts on Facebook and he is now a college freshman.
Was this fun? Yes it was.

                STORY of GINGERBREAD

German bakers began to craft them
Inspired by the fairytale “Hansel and Gretel”
Not-a-so-Chrismassy story of old
Grimes tale originally had the house built of
    bread with a cake roof
Eventually in later story versions the
      structure gingerbread
References state creators made the first
       houses from honey biscuits
But in later years bakers began to use
     gingerbread
Recipes vary slightly for making these tasty
         treat houses
Edible food or decorative item, never sure
           which
As the houses look to beautiful to consume
Day to celebrate gingerbread December
      the twelfth

Many construct the houses as a fun holiday
    event
And bake and decorate the cookies as a
       family project
Nevertheless not all cookies are
   gingerbread men there are gingerbread
       women too

           GINGERBREAD THOUGHTS

A gingerbread man with a red bow tie
Sat in his gingerbread house
It was a quiet cold winter evening
As he drank cocoa with this gingerbread
      spouse
Near the fireplace they hung up their
        stockings
While waiting for St. Nick to arrive
They wondered if he’d come down the
       chimney
Or would he just fly right on by
Does Mr. Claus stop at houses made of gingerbread they wondered?
Should they be in bed fast asleep?
Should they leave Santa milk and ginger
     snap cookies?
They didn't know just what to think
The season of Christmas was new to them
Their first year in this sweet residence
that sat near the evergreen tree
Is their a gingerbread Santa just for them?
Crumbled thoughts scattered inside their
    cookie heads
As they sat pondering on Christmas Eve
