SPREADING HOLIDAY CHEER....Day 5

SPREADING HOLIDAY CHEER DAY 5....Be
      a Secret Santa

          HOLIDAY WORD of THE
               DAY.....Ornament(s)
********************************************
It’s Thursday and the days seem to have gone fast.  Today let’s play secret Santa to someone.  But a whimsical holiday mug, small stuff animal, decoration or just anything you feel might make someone’s day.  You need not spend a lot of money.  Leave it on a neighbor’s porch or co-workers desk or work area.  Put to who the recipient would be and from Santa.  It just might make someone smile.
Actually the funny thing is today’s word is ornament and that is what I am leaving the neighbor. A whimsical ornament that says it all about 2020.
The box of crackers for today’s food box can be saltines to go with the cans of soup you’ll be donating. In years past I donated saltines and another type cracker also.
The holiday word as you see is ornament.  I did the acrostic; the verse I composed comes from what I envision as a wonderful holiday tradition.  A person who had items passed down through generations that is used on a tree.  The narrator has decorations on a tree that were made by various family members over the years. It’s how I see a tradition.
The Christmas memory comes from the first year my mother married my step-father.  It was the year I no longer felt any Christmas spirit.
Think about the holidays of your own past.
Until tomorrow....keep spreading the cheer and as always Stay Safe.
++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++++
I remember the first Christmas with my step-family. It was the year my mother married my step-father.  The family consisted of my step-father; my two step-siblings (step-sister,Dee, two years older and step-brother, Jay, year older); my step-grandmother Katie and her third husband, Anthony/Tony who would be my step-father's step-father.  Now Dee and Jay are what I’m calling them ( their names begin with the letters D and J).
I was eight years old and everyone in my third grade class still believed in Santa. Heck I still believe in him today. As it was my step-siblings did not; and they also attended Sister School (Catholic School) where I went to public school.  As we were learning cursive in third grade our teacher gave us the homework assignment to write a letter to Santa Claus using cursive.  Well I arrived home after school and began my homework.  Neither Dee or Jay could tolerate me and vice versa.  Jay sees me doing my homework and grabs it. He laughs and runs to Grandma Katie telling her I wasn’t doing homework but writing a letter to Santa Claus not doing my homework.  She comes over to me and grabs the letter then begins to yell at me that I’m not a baby to be writing to Santa. I explained it was part of my homework and I’m then told by her I am lying.  She grabbed the letter and throws it out.  I’m then headed into another room when Jay pushes me and I fall against the wall. I then hall off and smack him and he goes crying to Grandma Kate I’m hitting him. She grabs me tells me I’m a bad person and I’m to sit up in my bedroom until supper and our parents get home from work.  When my mother and step-dad got home of course it was told I was the one causing trouble and I hurt poor Jay (who by the way out weighed me). She said I lied about doing homework and I was doing baby stuff.  After dinner I got to tell my mother what occurred.  She then wrote a note to my teacher to explain why I did not have the homework assignment done. Of course I did not really need the note; you see during my stay in my room till supper I ended up doing the homework assignment.  I always kept paper in my little storage box (or toy chest).
My step-sibling did me a favor as I was able to do homework in peace without having to be around either of them.
Unfortunately it was the year I was told Santa did not exist and I was stupid to ever believe in him after I turned age five. It was not a Merry Christmas for me at all; but that’s part another story. Tomorrow is Part One of a Three Part Christmas memory.

On the tree some of the ornaments shine
Red, green, silver, blue and gold
Nestled on the branches are new and old
And some have a story of Christmases past
Many were hand made they were
          someone’s craft
Every year a new snowman or Santa
     ornament I buy
Not certain which to purchase this year
Then again I could end up with an angel

There are ornaments on the tree that tell a
    story
made by great-grandma now yellow with
        age
Crocheted with love on the first Christmas
      she was married
Decorations created for family, friends
    and her own evergreen tree
handed down to my grandmother, to my
           mother, now me
They stood the test of time
telling the tale of a young struggling
couple who could not afford holiday gifts
the young wife a talented sewer created
          unique items
A place of honor they now adorn my small
      table top Christmas tree
Great-grandma’s crochet ornaments, along
with grandmother’s that are hand sewn,
mom’s ones of ceramic, mine hand
       crafted beaded baubles
Four generations celebrated on a tree,
someday soon there will be five
