HOLIDAY WORD of the Day: REINDEER
It’s Saturday so happy Saturday. I’ve been busy doing my spreading cheer this past week; working on my word of the day pieces and adding memories to the blog. If you’re following you’ve read them all. Today will be part two of the three part story.
Yesterday I left a thank you for the mailman. It was nice gesture as he has to stop at my place, get out and put the mail by my door where some neighbors have mail boxes on the street. What bothers me are his hours to come are different than few years ago. It seems he comes once it’s dark, but I guess it depends on how much mail he has.
I’m asking for the spreading cheer to call a friend, family member or acquaintance you have not spoken with for awhile. Ask them how they are; what’s new; do they need anything. Just call to chat and let them know you’re thinking of them. Sometimes a person needs just a phone call to make their day. Funny how I’ve learned a call is what an individual may need especially this time of year.
Today the food item is macaroni and cheese (2 boxes); but if you want to donate more thank you for doing so. My box is getting filled.
My pieces today center around reindeer. Rudolph of course is my favorite. I’ve written a piece (the acrostic) about him; the other piece is about Santa’s reindeer in general. The idea of NPDS popped in my head at 2:00am. I chuckled , then began to write it.
Think about it, Santa is delivery man for North Pole Delivery Service (chuckle).
Santa depends on reindeer power to keep the sleigh flying one reason for kids to leave reindeer a snack also. When I did the Santa letters to my grandkids years ago and made letters for children of other people I would always put about a reindeer snack. The cookie I would change from letter to letter until one year someone told me they had two leave two different types. After that if the kids were in same family I kept the cookies the same. Now that brings up funny story which I’ll share soon.
Until tomorrow....enjoy your day and as always Stay Safe.

PART TWO
Christmas Eve, my first blended family Christmas was an eye opener for an eight year old. The meal is still another story okay. After the meal we took a short nap as we were going to midnight mass. I was in the process of being converted to Catholicism and this was my first time for midnight mass. Let’s just say I’d rather attend Christmas morning.
On Christmas morning we got up and got dressed for the day; dressed meant a fancy Sunday dress and shoes. The next order of business was breakfast then doing the breakfast dishes. There was no running to look under the tree for presents as chores had to be done and everyone had to be available to sit and open gifts. Grandma Katie had to make sure the turkey was basted and potatoes peeled for mashed potatoes and sweet potatoes; side dishes prepped.
While that was going on we sat patiently in the living room watching TV.
Finally we were ready to open gifts which was another production. All presents handed out first then one person opened one or two at a time.
What I found in front of me surprised me when I saw the packages from Dee and Jay. They were rather large compared to the small packages they were receiving from me but size DOES NOT MATTER as I soon found out.
Stay tuned for the continuation tomorrow.

REINDEER POWER

Santa is the NPDS man
(The NORTH POLE DELIVERY SERVICE)
St. Nick relies on the force of the reindeer
to pull the sleigh
Rudolph, the headlight guiding the way
when the weather is foggy
Dasher, Dancer, Prancer and the rest
work hard to get Santa to the house
of every girl and boy on Christmas Eve
The reindeer need a snack to give them
energy to continue their task
All they ask you to leave carrot sticks,
dried berries and water
Santa enjoys a snack of milk and cookies
So hang your stocking for him to fill
jump into bed early on Christmas Eve
Because Santa is getting preparing
for his yearly visit
with the help of reindeer power

RUDOLPH the REINDEER

Rudolph is a reindeer that once was happy
and bright
Everyone began to laugh at him because he
was different
It seems he had a problem, his nose was
big, red and shiny
None of the other reindeer wanted to be his
friend
Dasher, Vixen and all of Santa’s other
reindeers ignored him
Even the Elves at the North Pole workshop
made fun of Rudolph
Eventually one Christmas Eve Santa almost
canceled his flight, the weather too foggy
to see
Rudolph saved the day, his shiny nose
guided Santa’s sleigh to make his
deliveries 🛷
