Good Morning. My wake up was at 2:30am. I decided to wait and type this after I got up for the day. It’s St. Patrick’s Day Eve. Yesterday I purchased some shamrock shaped cookies. I usually do every year. It’s just something about purchasing holiday shaped cookies. Generally I’ll get them for different holidays when I see them.
Yesterday was the 102nd Birthday of the American Legion and the 101st Birthday of the Forty and Eight (40&8). I did not go over to my Legion but ended up at the veterans club where my 40&8 Voiture meets (Amvets Post). I bought a drink for the Voyageurs that I saw. I saw three which got drinks to celebrate.
My writing pieces today focused on fact of the Forty and Eight veterans organization. I composed a piece for my Locale Voiture 899. The other is about a female veteran. It can be two fold as it can relate to the Forty and Eight as well as women’s history month. At one time female veterans were not invited to join the organization. Personally I termed it the organization ‘The Old Boys Club’. I knew a guy who actually said the day they let women join the organization is the day he turns in his membership. A lot of hot air from him; he’s still a member. I jumped at the opportunity to join. I set out to prove I could do a good job as a member and be a leader. I did three years in my Locale as their Chef de Gare. So in a way the piece is a reflection of my life.
Terry’s daily word for Monday was POLLYWOG. I’ve heard the word before but not as much as the word tadpole which is the same thing. I wrote a brief piece on it.
The wacky holidays sort of fell into place. Actually beware the ides of March sure was true for an acquaintance who had two run ins while driving. I chalked his experience up to the ides of March being today.
Today is St. Patrick’s Day Eve.
I remember last St. Patrick’s Day it was the day our governor called for lockdown of clubs and bars I believe beginning 5pm. Our club just finished with the St. Patty’s meal as by then nothing left. I felt bad for the places that had scheduled a dinner beginning at 5pm. I only hope this will not happen again.
Until tomorrow....enjoy your day and as always Stay Safe.

COMING a LONG WAY
Serving our nation with pride
a soldier girl was she
Became a veteran when discharged
Joined the American Legion and
Amvets
The Forty and Eight....not open to
female veterans back in the seventies
She termed it an ‘old boys club’
But finally....membership open to
women veterans
About time that women were
no longer snubbed
Invited to join....she jumped at the
chance
Went through what she needed to
become a Voyageur
Wearing proudly her chapeau at
promenades
As a past Locale Chef de Gare....she’s
come a long way

It’s said this organization is one of
honor and of fun
But....all play put aside....good deeds
are done
Many charitable programs and causes
you work hard in support of them all
Child Welfare....Youth Sports....
POW/MIA....Americanism....
Helping fellow veterans....and....much
more
Although you may not be the largest
group of those who proudly served
our nation
One must remember....quality of the
members....
not the quantity makes the
organization unique
To become a Voyageur....one is invited
to join the ranks
One hundred and one years young....La
