JUST JULY….Day 30

Today is a just veg out day.  It takes a toll on one mentally and physically going to visit a love one at a hospital or rehab facility.  I know it takes it out of me. The driving to and from the place; the mask indeed and the stress of worrying about the person. As I had no visit today (no openings) I’ll just stay put and try to revitalize myself.
It was a nice busy day yesterday.  After my visit with my husband, I had to run to the store to get bread so I can make sandwiches for my husband. They are allowing me to bring in soft bread sandwiches he can have.  He’s on what is a mechanical diet.  All foods must be cut small and soft (not purΓ©e) and certain sandwiches allowed.  The days I visit I’ll be taking them.
After my shopping at the store I had to run home as I had a package delivered I needed to get inside.  Good thing I did as it rained like crazy later.  I had met people at a new local craft brewery for a few hours.  It was a nice place and nice afternoon. While there the storms came and had to stay awhile longer.
I got home in time to get my trash bin out for today before it poured again.
Of course the big downpours aren’t good for my allergies.  Seems after big storm my allergies get bad.
As I’m trying to get this done, it started to rain again.
Until tomorrow….have a good day and as always Stay Safe.

JUST JUNE….Day 29

As I drove from rehab yesterday after seeing my husband I noticed it clouding up.  I had a feeling that when I parked my car at the store, it would begin to rain while half way across the parking lot to the store. I was fortunate it actually held off until I finished at two stores.
I hope today it holds off till this evening as I’m meeting some friends for an afternoon out.  We’re headed to a new place in the area. I’m looking forward to it.
I have all my appointments to visit this week.  Sorry to say Saturday is off due to I have a meeting which to attend. But I’ll be there for July 4th instead of attending the Amvets event.  That’s all fine and dandy with me.
Yesterday Terry gave us the word VIEW
MASTER.  I remember having one of these.  It took me to places around the world.  How wonderful seeing things in different parts of the world from the comfort of my living room or even sitting on the porch.  I would love having one today.  Years ago I saw one at an auction and did make a bid; unfortunately I lost the bid and the View Master.  I have looked in thrift stores for them but never came across one.
Today is going to be busy so I need to get cracking as they say.
Until tomorrow….have a great day and as always Stay Safe.

JUST JUNE….Day 28

As I think about laying in bed yesterday, I felt like staying put. Outside I heard the birds tweeting and I thought well it’s time to get up.  I knew I had a lot I wanted to do yesterday.  Visiting my husband then stopping to get the Monday lunch appreciation menu to post on the Amvets Facebook page.
Naturally it had to pour when I got into my car at rehab.  Odd it rained for a few miles, then stopped and in a few miles began again.  Finally the sun came out again an hour later.
Today I have a full plate again. Visiting my husband; stores for few items then to a meeting.
This is the last Monday of the month.  Seems the month went by so quickly.  In less than six days we will be celebrating July 4th.  One thing I dislike is people shooting off fireworks for a week every night.  I have no qualms about on the fourth but days before and after are just too much for me especially when they go past midnight.
I do think this year people will be out and about for the fourth especially since last year many of the events were cancelled. I recall being on lockdown for the fourth. I will say it did not stop people in my area from shooting off fireworks.  In fact it went on every night for three evenings.
The nostalgic toy/game yesterday was SPIROGRAPH.  My step-siblings and I shared one.  I recall the fancy drawings we made and colored with crayon and colored pencils.  It kept us occupied on rainy days and cold winter evenings.  But like with most toys, it becomes boring after awhile and something else takes its place.
Until tomorrow….I hope everyone has a great day; and as always Stay Safe.

Morning awakens….a new day begins
Outside my window I hear bird song

I lay in bed….listening to the sounds of

JUST JUNE….Day 27

Hey so when I notice two ex-marines hugging I realized it is a sign of camaraderie.  I’ve never noticed this between veterans of other branches for a very long time.   I’m a hugger so for me to hug all people it’s normal. These two guys were swapping stories over a few drinks. As a writer I observed them.  Funny they are in the group of veterans younger than me (a Vietnam War Era Vet); but they gave a hug and back pats.  It sort of surprised me as I know the one guy a bit more than the other.  Both are macho type guys but the observation made me think they both had been telling stories that were not good about their military time.  Perhaps they’ve experienced PTSD; I’m not sure, but all I know is how they related to one another.  Why it stuck with me is because I’ve actually seen this years ago between my first husband and his buddies who served in Nam. This scene brought back sad memories to me.  Of course I would not let these guys know but the thoughts whirled around my brain for quite awhile after the one guy left the club. I sat just staring into space not communicating with anyone for quite awhile.  I have been through issues with my first husband when stories came up about his experiences in Vietnam  with his buddies.  I remember their back slapping and a hug of comfort.  It’s been awhile since I experienced this.  After sometime I was again back to being normal.  Some people might wonder why I was affected by this little scene; I have no answer.
My daily observation I completed earlier in the day.  Seems whenever I want to venture outside to be someplace the rains come.
The nostalgic toy/game yesterday was CHINESE CHECKERS.  I could never figure out how to play so never did.  I actually enjoyed regular checkers; I always wondered about the game on the reverse side.  It took me into my thirties to learn Backgammon.  Actually I wanted to use the Chinese checker marbles for shooting but my step-brother hid them from me.  One marble game I enjoyed was a take off of the game Sorry. This game was called Aggravation.  My first husband and I enjoyed many game nights playing this.
Today is Sunday and the last day of the weekend. I hope you make the most of the day. This afternoon I visit my husband at rehab.
Until tomorrow….have a wonderful and blessed Sunday; and as always Stay Safe.

JUST JUNE….Day 26

I slept in awhile later today.  It was a nice visit with my husband yesterday.

He seemed a bit tired but he did have therapy. As it was Friday my thoughts were on wearing red.  I have a certain pair of shorts I wear with my red shirts. Now that I have a red woman’s army corps veteran hat, I wear that also.
Yesterday Terry gave us the word MARBLES.  I remember so well shooting them.  For a girl, I was pretty good. I loved showing up snooty boys especially my step-brother.  I think living with my uncle’s family and the boys taught me well how to be a tomboy.  The cat’s eye were of course my favorite marbles.  I considered the green ones lucky for me.
As the day before, the wacky holidays are in thoughts.   Sometimes I wonder about how one would celebrate.
I’ve come to the conclusion that I’ll never win the Queen of Hearts; my ticket is never picked.  But here I am playing it weekly.
Tonight I’m attending a karaoke that the Dee Jay is going to use as fund raiser to help school students.  She had a list of items to bring to help.  I don’t mind helping a child in need of items for school; after all not every child is fortunate as others.
I recall in school we had to bring our own supplies.  A memory just came to me about something a teacher said one time about not having a pen or pencil.  She said brining the right tools is important; you’d never see a carpenter showing up for work without a hammer.
That stuck with me throughout the rest of that year.  I always made sure I had two pens, two pencils and sufficient notebook paper.  In fact
Today is Saturday so I hope you all have a great day.
Until tomorrow….do something fun and as always Stay Safe.

JUST JUNE….Day 25

It’s FRIDAY!  Day to wear your RED!

As I realize I have many and when I say many, more than ten red shirts, I tend to gravitate to pulling out the same one I had worn few weeks ago.  Funny as before I got this one, I’d wear a different one mostly.
I can’t believe the date is June 25th.  Do you realize that in six months it will be Christmas?  I did not realize this until I saw a posting on Facebook about Santa saying something about seeing us in six months.  This was yesterday which was the 24th.  Wow this year sped fast.
I wrote short pieces yesterday. My daily observation was a kudos to the tasty baked ziti one of the woman at the Amvets made for the customer appreciation lunch yesterday.  It was delicious and a close second to my step-sons baked ziti. She had lots of meat in it, tangy sauce and very cheesy. Just let me say, yes I had my fill.  She can make it again anytime.
The nostalgic toy/game yesterday was KALEIDOSCOPE.  Now I had one as a child.  It was fun to look through it to see different designs, but only for so long. I was not highly entertained by it.
As a child I enjoyed activity fun. Outside it would be jump rope, hopscotch, bike riding, roller skating or playing games such as Red Rover and going to a park.
How I miss those days as a kid.  What I miss are beach trips to Lake Michigan on a summer day.  We would catch a bus about nine in the morning that would go to the beach.  The old tale about waiting an hour after eating your lunch before going swimming was either spent playing in the sand or walking along the beach.
I also had thoughts on the wacky holidays yesterday.  With the fourth of July approaching I’d enjoy having a bomb pop; either one sounds delicious but it’s the ice treat I’d rather have.
Until tomorrow….enjoy your day and as always Stay Safe.

JUST JUNE….Day 24

I took a rest and relax day yesterday.  My nose was terrible stuffy and I kept sneezing the day before. I did not sleep well the night prior.  I did not venture outside except to bring in my trash bin.

I mostly read and watched games shows.  Today I feel better.  Nose not stuffy and not sneezing. My daily observation reflected my feelings on an R&R day.
The nostalgic toy/game word was JUMP ROPE.  I had quite a few as a kid. My favorite was a green and yellow one.  I could use it by myself; standing in one place or skipping and jumping down the street.   I also had a long piece of clothesline for when others came to play. I finally mastered double Dutch when I was in seventh grade.  We once had a contest who could jump the longest. My record was one hundred and fifty jumps.  Of course I got no trophy but bragging rights. The little rhymes and songs were fun when jumping. These daily words this month sure have memories popping in my head.  Not sure if little girls even play with a jump rope anymore or not.  Jump rope was inexpensive and hours of fun.
Well today is Friday Eve.
Until tomorrow….enjoy the day and as always Stay Safe.

JUST JUNE….Day 23

I had a nice visit with hubby yesterday. Unfortunately I had to leave after overstaying my visit. The screener and another worker at rehab saw my tote bag which has the words, MY BITCH BAG, imprinted on it. They both remarked and I said I’d bring them one.
I could not help noticing on Tuesday some of my neighbors had put their garbage bins out a day early.  Not sure why. It’s not as if they wouldn’t be home; just I guess making sure the bin is out front. Now when our date was changed to Wednesday our pick up was before eight in the morning.  Now it seems like it’s in the afternoon.  They have only a driver now and the bins are picked up automatically.  I always wonder what happens if the bin pick up device malfunctions during the day.  Does the driver do it manually or go back to the shop for another truck?
This is a short read today.  My allergies are bothering me and it’s hard to concentrate.
It’s Hump Day today.
Until tomorrow….have a nice day and as always Stay Safe.

JUST JUNE….Day 22

I have to say people even complain about a FREE meal.  It’s hey look people this is FREE either you want it or you don’t. People are donating this food for those wanting it.  If you don’t like what  it is being offered for the day, you have to eat it or pay for it.  But people need to complain about something we all know.  Few were complaining about the type of bread being provided for FREE sandwiches.  My answer is BYOB (bring your own bread). This is funny when you hear it said.  Our veteran’s club is offering a FREE customer appreciation lunch each day this week. It is volunteers providing and paying for this. We have great volunteers at the club who are willing to do whatever is asked. Out of their own pocket, they are providing something each day this week for lunch; whether it be sandwiches, hot dogs, pizza or a baked casserole.  Yet there are people making a complaint about well the hot dogs were not grilled; are they providing rolls with the casserole; I only eat rye bread or whole wheat and where is the pizza coming from and what toppings.  My opinion you don’t like it, don’t eat it or volunteer to donate a meal you rather have. See how many will shut up. Enough said.
I’m not sure if yesterday’s nostalgic toy/game was the actual purchase game or one we played in the car when traveling. I remember playing it as we were on long car trips.  Fun game indeed.  The most nostalgic toy/game was I SPY.  It reminded me of a trip my first husband and I were taking for the day to a meeting across state. The driver had young children. In the backseat where I was sitting I found boards for CAR BINGO. There were little pictures of items one would see while traveling. Well I handed my husband one of the boards and we played.  I think by the time we quit playing I won one more game than him. It passed the time as we sat in the car.
Now most kids on long trips are busy on their devices not enjoying car games with parents and siblings.
Today is Tuesday and seems like June going so fast.
Today I visit my husband.  I got smart and I was able to schedule visits for the week on days available.  I had no idea I could do this; I thought it was make scheduled visit after the current one.
Until tomorrow….I hope you have a great day and as always Stay Safe.

JUST JUNE….Day 21

So I’m visiting my husband yesterday and they said I could stay a little longer. Rehab still on 30 minute stays due to covid.  It’s frustrating as hospital has longer visit times.  Well that’s how it goes.
I went over to the Amvets to see how the customer appreciation lunch going.  Yesterday was the first day of the customer appreciation lunches. This will go all week till Friday. It should be interesting.  Of course they did ask for donation if you want to do so but not charging.  Well some take more than they should and YES there was NO donation.  It’s always like that.
Of course people came in to inquire about the lunches and two complained there is tuna and egg salad; upset it’s being made with mayonnaise. Like you can’t please everyone it seems. Remember people this is FREE; you don’t like it then don’t eat.
I did an acrostic yesterday for Father’s Day.
The nostalgic game/toy was CATS CRADLE. I was not coordinated for it.
Can’t be an ace performer on every toy or game.

                  FATHERS DAY
Fathers and mothers have a special day
A way to honor them each year
There are many types of both
  parents….biological, step, adoptive
      and fur parents
Holidays should not be only time to
     think of them
Everyday you have your parent is a gift
Remember if not for them….there’d be
     no you
So today it’s Dads we honor and
       celebrate

Don’t ever take your parents for
      granted
Always show your love and caring
You never know when they might not
   be there
🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻🌻

                   STRING TOY
I’m not coordinated to play with the
     CATS CRADLE
With my luck I’d get all tangled up
Another item never owned
Although I did enjoy watching others
    do creations

JUST JUNE….Day 20

Happy Father’s Day to all the fathers whether you’re a biological father, step-father, adoptive father or even those dads to furry creatures.  I hope you have a great day.
I’m visiting my husband today at rehab. I hope to FaceTime with one of the kids.
I’ll see how it happens. If I can do it. He may not want FaceTime.
Today I’m so lucky; our bartender at the Amvets,Nikki, bought a few of us some tasty treats yesterday. This morning I’m having cinnamon muffins she gave me. They are tasty. What a nice person she is to bring us these treats.  I had one of the lemon cookies she also gave me last evening; yummy is all I can say.
As I look at the nostalgic toy word yesterday, I remember having a RING TOSS game. I was not good but not bad at the game. It was fun having teams to play.  It helped to also have a back yard also.
Funny about my daily thought.  I did not after all ask for a martini since I learned the Amvets have no martini glasses.  Of course there’d be no one I know who would order one either.  I did have a Bloody Mary with a bacon flavored salted rim. All I can say is too tasty for words.
Until tomorrow….have a great Sunday and as always Stay Safe.

                   DAILY THOUGHT
It’s National Martini Day
I wonder can whether Denny make one
    at the Amvets?
Should I wait until Lisa clocks in?
Does the club even have vermouth?
I’ll find out later

🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸

                   MY RING TOSS
I made about sixty percent of my
      tosses
Not a professional but not a bad player
Just mediocre….we had teams
Happy to be on the team with the best
     players
Of course I got picked first as it was my ring toss game with which we played

    WACKY HOLIDAYS JUNE 19th
(National Martini Day; Garfield Day;
  World Juggling Day and National
   Watch Day)

Garfield is one of my favorite comics
Like me, he enjoys lasagna
Looking at the time on my Mickey
    Mouse watch
I see it’s time to go to the club
Perhaps a few martinis to celebrate the
    day
Doubt I’d try juggling after having a few

JUST JUNE…Day 19

It’s Saturday and believe it or not I actually got to sleep in later.  There are no scheduled visits with my husband until Monday due to still scheduling them at rehab. I know he’ll be upset be sure he understands how it is.
I don’t really have any specific plans for today. Need to just take what people call a mental health day.
Funny how I ran into people yesterday at Advent Hospital from the Amvets. It was like old home week.  That’s what I observed yesterday.  I noticed other people running into acquaintances also so it wasn’t just me.
As I think of the nostalgic toys and games for each day I will admit that I never heard of the WOOLY WILLIE. I went to Google to research the toy. Not sure if I’d want one.
Here’s a secret or not a secret.  My friend Terry published a cute children’s story and she used a few past daily words init. I actually dropped my other book I was reading to read this one. Unfortunately now I want more adventures of this character.
One of the weird holidays today is martini day.  I do wonder if the bartender can make one at the Amvets.  Of course it’s Bloody Mary day today. I donated a bacon flavored salt for the glass rims and must say it makes that drink quite tasty.
Until tomorrow….enjoy the day and as always Stay Safe.
🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸
                 DAILY OBSERVATION

While visiting the hospital today
I met three people from the club
Two, like me, visiting their spouse
One going in for some lab work
Old home week it seemed
🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸🍸

                    ODD TOY
WOOLY WILLY I never owned
Never saw one before either
It doesn’t matter to me at all
I’d probably not play with it much

    WACKY HOLIDAYS JUNE 18th
(International Panic Day;International
  Picnic Day; International Sushi Day
   and National Splurge Day)

I’m not going to panic today
Cause the rain made me cancel the
    picnic
Instead it’ll be a lunch at a
    restaurant
No sushi for me….thank you
But perhaps I’ll splurge for lobster tail
   and steamed clams

JUST JUNE….Day 18

Friday has come with no warning.  I heard birds outside and that meant time to rise and shine. Not sure about shining though; but I am up and about.

Yesterday I actually thought I’m living the same day over and over again.  I get up; go see my husband then come home for something to eat.  I have no ambition to do much else.  I know each day is different due to what I’m wearing. Then again, I may not be the only person feeling like this.
Today my shirt is red for it’s Friday; day we wear our red to remember everyone deployed. Yesterday I picked up a new red shirt from the Amvets.  Not as if I needed another red shirt. Truth I do not own a red Amvets shirt.
The daily toy and games word yesterday was HOPSCOTCH.  I did enjoy playing this on summer evenings in Chicago. Of course the hopscotch court had to be extended to some of the side walk in front of the neighbor’s house. They had no problem as long as we washed off the court after playing. It was easy to do. We took the hose and washed away. What I did not have was colored chalk but white worked well enough.  Naturally one could not make the court on the street due to traffic.
Hopscotch was fun as you’d get in some type of exercise but hopping and jumping.  These old games indeed were  great as hopscotch did not cost much just the price of chalk.  Now days I know they have sidewalk chalk as I’ve seen pictures of creations made by my granddaughter on the sidewalk in front of her house.
The weird holidays for yesterday seemed all related to food and drink.  The eat your veggies day comes the day after fresh veggies day.
I hope you all remember to put on your red.  A red shirt, tie, hat, socks, wrist band, scarf or red hair accessories.
Until tomorrow….have a great Friday and as always Stay Safe.

                   DAILY THOUGHT
   Another day….another day
All my days seem to be the same
As if I’m living the same day over
        and over
          Only difference….not the same
outfit I wear or same food I eat
πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄
                   SIDEWALK FUN
Creating the hopscotch court on
  always interesting
We always had to use the sidewalk in
front of the neighbor’s house to
        complete it
They never did mind….as long as we
    washed it away when done
No colored chalk available in my youth
used to draw the court with plain
    white
No fun to have to move out of the
   way when someone strolled along
     on the sidewalk

  WACKY HOLIDAYS JUNE 17th
(National Eat Your Veggies Day;
  National Stewart’s Root Beer Day;
   National Cherry Tart Day and
   National Apple Strudel Day)

Eating my veggies today
then have a root beer float
Undecided whether to have
a cherry tart or apple strudel
Perhaps I’ll have both
