A new month begins today as May left yesterday.
Yesterday was Memorial Day. I attended a service at my Amvets where I read a poem I composed. The words were powerful as they stated Memorial Day is not a day of celebration. After the service there was food typical of any summer type holiday. It surprised me the amount of dishes to pass people actually brought. We had enough for some people to take a TOGO box which is typical. I never bring home leftovers or a box of food for another meal. Our members who volunteered to work the event did a great job; they all are hardworking individuals.
I did my traditional shot of amaretto in memory of those who perished on the field of battle; and one to those family and friends who served in the military but no longer with us.
Now that a new month starts I look forward to what the daily word challenge is for the month. It seems it will be old fashion toy words. It should be quite fun. I am in the opinion toys are not as popular as electronic devices for kids. I remember hours playing with paper dolls or cut outs as some called them. I loved my doll house and definitely my Betsy Wetsy doll. Outside I had a jump rope, metal skates, a hula hoop and a bike. I’m looking forward to what Terry will come up with each day.
My first piece was done after I came home yesterday from the Amvets. As I stood there waiting to read, a flash back of a Memorial Day service came to my mind. It was one I used in my FtS story. That scene in FtS is based on a true Memorial Day event with a bit of fiction added; but it was one I remember now and then.
Terry’s last UK word was JUMPER. I used it as both what we consider a jumper in the USA and how the UK uses the word.
I have busy day again; having to be at doctor with my husband at nine this morning.
Until tomorrow....Happy first day of June and as always Stay Safe.

MEMORIES
I stand and look out at the crowd
assembled
Children hold tightly a small American
Flag
Two color guard units stand off to the
side
Two American flags flutter in the breeze
Two POW/MIA flags; one American Legion flag; one Vietnam Veterans flag
I see them as I scan the crowd
Two color guard units standing at parade rest listening to speakers
on a Memorial Day Weekend Sunday
The honor guard stands close by
waiting to be called to attention
to fire the twenty-one gun volley
A bugler holding the brass bugle waits
to sound TAPS
A memory of a past Memorial Day
service runs through my head
This comes to mind as I attend services
today

JUMPER OVER JUMPER
I put a jumper over my jumper
trying to keep warm
Worn over a white short sleeve blouse
a red cotton jumper
The blue jumper with white pearly
buttons knitted by my granny
So needed on a cool autumn day
