JULY JEWELS….Day 31

 

The weekend has arrived for those who work all week.  It’s Saturday!  Recently a veteran at the Amvets remarked when one is retired everyday is a Saturday.  Sometimes I am at a loss on what the day of the week is.  It gets really out of hand when there is a holiday involved in the middle of the week. 

Today is another day of visiting with my husband.  I don’t have any pressing errands today, well one but I can get it done as long as I do it by five (the places closes then). Today I’ll going to visit around eleven not ten like yesterday.  Again I made it for physical therapy.  I like being there to see what they are doing and how my husband responses.  

I have no idea why people drive so insanely.  Yesterday people weaving in and out of traffic; no idea where they are going in such a hurry.  I hope some make it safely with their erratic maneuvers.  I’ve always felt if you have to be someplace try to leave earlier and arrive safe.  Better to be late than cause a traffic accident or worse fatality.  

Yesterday the cartoon of the day was RICHIE RICH. I never really thought much about the cartoon or the comic. It was just a kid who had money.  Never found it funny; but that is my opinion.  Again another cartoon that got made into a movie.  Today is the final day of vintage cartoons/comics. I’m looking forward to which one will end the month.

JULY JEWELS….Day 30

 

Another typical Florida summer day yesterday. The beautiful morning turned into a rainy afternoon.  It seems every time I leave visiting my husband the weather turns nasty. It doesn’t matter what time I leave, it begins to rain. Yesterday wasn’t as bad as the past few days, but bad enough.  

This is a late blog. I decided to try to visit my husband at ten. I wanted to be there for physical therapy. He’s having a sleepy day. I don’t know what I can do. Nothing definitely I can do. Prayers are helpful to help him through this. Prayers help to see me through this. I am trying to stay strong but there are times I just can’t. Yes I’ve had crying breakdowns and don’t let anyone know how I feel.  I don’t want to bother others with my piddly problems. Ok enough said. 

I wrote about how each morning it’s sunny and bright but by afternoon the weather louder. It’s Florida for you. 

FAT ALBERT was yesterday’s cartoon. I said it all in three sentences. 

It’s Friday and I am wearing my red. 

As I sit typing this while my husband naps, I see out the window it’s going to rain. Of course it’s going to rain sometime soon.

JULY JEWELS….Day 29

 

Yesterday was stressful again. I needed junk food after my healthy lunch. As I said in my thoughts desserts is stressed spelled backwards. I was there during my husbands therapy and will try to be there today.  Find it good for me to see what’s happening.  

Another rainy afternoon for me. I waited out the storm before heading home from the Amvets.  I knew if I timed it right I could leave before another downpour.  It worked too. I pulled into my driveway; as I walked inside it came down like buckets. 

Terry’s vintage cartoon is one of my favorites.  I enjoyed and still enjoy that Great Dane, SCOOBY-DOO. The gang is ok but Scooby makes the show. As for making this into a movie, I was not a fan.  Again another cartoon made into movie I did not enjoy.  If I could relate to any of the gang it would be Velma. I like the brainy person she is. The smartest of them all; except Scooby. 

Today is Friday Eve.

JULY JEWELS….Day 28

 

Hump Day!  Whew it’s been a roller coaster the past few days for me.  Hope today I’ll be able to get a few errands done after my visit with my husband.  As he likes visits around eleven, today I’ll be there at that time.  I’ll do what I need after visiting him.  Actually his visits must come first.  I just hope no rain today. 

Yesterday the vintage cartoon was ATOM ANT.  Don’t know anything about it or watched it. In my opinion I guess he was a super powered insect.  Enough said. 

Cartoons were fun to watch as a kid on Saturday mornings while having breakfast.  But when I was growing up, we had chores that we needed to do after having breakfast and before any playtime on a Saturday.  We hardly saw many cartoon shows.  One incentive to watch them on Saturday was to hurry through breakfast and do our chores so we could enjoy television.  I don’t think today kids have chores to do.  No I did not live on a farm but in the city and suburbs.  Saturday was changing our bedding day for Monday wash day; cleaning our bedroom and making sure our school clothes ready for the coming week; and yes make sure our homework done.  It was different in the summer when we had no homework or school clothes to worry about.  Chores shaped us into being responsible and learning to do things on our own.

I come to the conclusion whenever I need to be going out it rains. I usually put off the errand till the next day.  I’ll see when I’m ready to go out if there’s rain. Some days it’s just what it is.  I’m certain it’ll rain later today as always.  This is just Florida in summer. 

My week again is busy.  One thing after another for certain.  I just need one day for not having to run any place. Enough on my piddle paddle life. 

I have not much to say about yesterday’s cartoon GEORGE of the JUNGLE.  I felt it a take off on Tarzan. I like the Tarzan movies.  This George a klutz compared to him. 

The month of vintage cartoons is coming to an end.  Not sure what will be today’s; hope it’s something I watched and enjoyed. Like TV shows I gave cartoons a chance if they were on my like list or not. After watching a few episodes I could tell.  George of the Jungle not on my list of likes. 

Well it’s Tuesday. I’m debating if I want to play bar poker tonight or not. It’ll depend on my mood.

JULY JEWELS….Day 26

 

Another week begins today. I wonder what unforeseen problems will arise. Seems some new issue pops up each week. I’m ready for what happens; or hope I am. What more can my husband go through?  Now it’s the possibility of having seizures from the scar damage from the stroke. At least the first seizure happened while he was at the hospital for outpatient services. I’m thankful for that indeed.  It could have been worse; it could have occurred while he was in the transport back to rehab. Unfortunately he has a new med to now take.  I’m in a state of stress over this all.  It just can’t even imagine anything else for him to encounter. 

I keep praying; I know prayer is a good healer and helper. 

TENNESSEE TUXEDO was yesterday’s vintage cartoon.  I enjoyed the show.  Loved the voice of Don Adams as the penguin.  Some cartoons were always enjoyable to watch even as an adult. They seemed to make me forget my problems for a while. I know a lot of individuals are not cartoon enthusiasts but they have always been for me.  Like a good comedy show cartoons made us laugh; as well as comics.  

Ok here’s something I’ve never told anyone but when I read a newspaper I first read the obituaries then the comics the news comes after.  It may be strange but it is how I roll.

JULY JEWELS….Day 25

 

It’s Sunday.  Another day in my soap opera life.  Visiting my husband today.  Not sure how long today’s visit will be. I think I’ll need to bring water and a snack in case like yesterday I get hungry.  

I’m quite still appalled about the free lunch at my vets club.  I have not been there since Wednesday.  I decided to stop by just to see what’s going on there and give an update on my husband. Heard one individual complain that no lunch left in the crock pot (this was about 6pm). Not sure what they thought at that time of the day. Another female said she’ll have to come early Sunday just to get something to eat as nothing ever left.  Then remarked about the possibly of calling the bartender to put stuff away for her.  I almost fell over. What gall.  

As I was giving a few people the update on my husband, one person broke into the conversation talking about how they had the same thing happen to them.  Only this individual’s issue was double.  There are people who have to up you on just about everything.  

I’m getting ready for my day so making a short read. 

Yesterday morning after seeing Terry’s cartoon of the day, the theme song to MAGILLA GORILLA played over and over in my head. I always enjoyed this show but not sure why.  One reason is that he never left the pet store for any length of time.  People would bring him back after a short period of time. I always had hopes he’d finally get to a permanent home.

It’s Saturday!  Let’s hope that Murphy’s Law does not show up today. It happened yesterday morning when I banged my already hurt knee into the door. I was being klutzy as usual. So of course iced it but I needed to be out and about.  It did not help. I put it up later in the day. It feels better so I’ll see how the day goes. 

Yesterday Terry gave us PINK PANTHER as the cartoon of the day.  I enjoyed watching the cartoon; but I also enjoyed the movies with Peter Sellers.  Seems to me a few cartoons were made into movies with live actors.   I think there is something lost in the movie with actors. I found the movie with Peter Sellers was made first then the cartoon series. I did enjoy the Pink Panther movie made with Steve Martin also.  One of the few cartoon and live actor movies I enjoyed. 

With me again having a busy day, I’m making this a short read today.  Some time today I have to stop at a store, after visiting my husband. I need to get the lunch schedule for the next weeks Amvets ads and write a few checks. 

Busy day indeed for me.  I’m hoping for a more quiet day tomorrow.

 Murphy’s Law returns.  My drama again begins.  One stress free day it seems is all I can have each week; sometimes not even that. 

I tossed and turned most of the night and again I have to be out and about after nine this morning.  I don’t want to put my current dilemma in this blog but if interested Personal Message me for the latest development in my soap opera life. 

As you can see I had nothing of interest to say about the vintage cartoon DEPUTY DAWG. I never cared for the show but my step-brother enjoyed it.  One can’t be over thrilled about every cartoon show.  

Today is Friday again. This was another fast week.  Today we wear our red.  Of all the red shirts I own I seem to be wearing the same one each week.  Why? No answer.  One thing I need is to pack a few red Friday wrist bands in a tote bag to distribute.  I have enough that’s for sure.

JULY JEWELS….Day 22

 

Good Morning!  I’m up early to get to the hospital for my husband’s five hour bone scan test.  It’s going to be a very long day indeed.  Mostly waiting while the injected dye goes through the body for the scan.  I debated whether I should bring something to read or not. Bringing my Kindle would mean I’d have to carry something extra with me.  

Yesterday I did not actually do any deep thinking at all. Just went with the flow.  It seemed to relieve my mind.  I did not let anything in particular play through my head. 

Yesterday the daily cartoon was THE

JETSONS.  I was always a fan of that show even in my adult years.  One of my favorite episodes happen to be about George going to a football game and how it was played in the future. It was quite funny indeed.  This cartoon a complete opposite of the Flintstones which took place in days of the caveman. The Jetsons indeed futuristic.  Both cartoon series were entertaining even as an adult as I enjoyed watching these. Cartoons aren’t just for the young at heart as I still like turning in the cartoon channel on occasion to catch one or two.  

As I need to get in gear for the hospital this is a short read today.

JULY JEWELS….Day 21

 

It’s Hump Day!  Another day for me. I’ll be visiting my husband late today. I personally like late afternoon visits best.  He likes early.  Go figure. 

My Amvets had been having a customer appreciation lunch this past month.  It has been named LUNCH on US!  The lunch is served from noon until gone. All the food provided is by donation from members of the post and our bartenders.  I have been donating dessert snack cakes I’ve picked up.  Now what gets me are some individuals who will come in around four or later complaining no food is there.  What don’t they understand it’s lunch not an early bird dinner? What is hard to understand that when the food is gone it is gone?  I’ve heard grumbles that the cakes aren’t what is expected and better snacks should be available.  Yeah well in my opinion if you don’t like the snacks don’t eat them or donate something.  As for the food a few grumbles about it also.  Don’t like it don’t eat it or donate something.  I’m becoming too sick of people and their pettiness.  Enough said.  

The vintage cartoon yesterday was ALVIN and THE CHIPMUNKS.  Personally I don’t recall watching the cartoon but heard their recordings.  One could not watch every cartoon that 

aired in television.  

My wacky holiday piece was just three lines and it hit the spot of what I wanted to say.

JULY JEWELS….Day 20

 

Monday reared it’s ugly head yesterday.  I gone for a early visit with my husband. After leaving there I stopped at my Legion post for lunch and to pick up my new membership card for both my husband and myself. Well his was ready but for some reason my was not. Yes it upset me and I asked why. Seemed his was process but mine not. Now these cards come in to the post in alphabetical order. My card would come first but not sure why mine passed over. Secondly I had my renewal notice which I handed with the check for us both.  I know things do happen but odd enough it was to me.  I did get my new card and that is all that matters to me. 

The FLINTSTONES was yesterday’s vintage cartoon. I remember the first episode; I was nine years old. I always enjoyed the antics of Fred.  As I got older it came to my mind the Flintstones sort of reminded me of a cartoon take off on the old television show “The Honeymooners”.  I am not sure why but somehow this is how I saw it; and still do to this day. I was surprised when an actual movie was made years ago.  I thought the movie okay, but rather have enjoyed a full length feature cartoon movie.  

Today I have a catch up day of stuff I need desperately to do.  My visit with my husband is late as they had no early morning openings available.  That happens on occasion but not often. 

At the moment I’m listening to traffic race up and down my street which means people are already out and about at 7:30am.  The speed limit is 25 but it’s like a NASCAR track.  In five minutes I’ve counted at least fifteen vehicles.  Either people are rushing off to work (which I doubt) or heading to breakfast or the store.  There have been days it took me over 15 minutes to back out of the driveway.  I have a feeling this is one of those days.

    nine years old

Fred and Wilma Flintstone along with 

    their friends Barney and Betty Rubble 

     lived in the fictional town of Bedrock 

A great cartoon show taken place

  in the period of the Stone Age 

Viewers followed the antics of Fred 

    Flintstone each week

“Yabba Dabba Doo” Fred’s catchphrase 

Reminded me a bit of a cartoon version 

      of the old Honeymooners show

     WACKY HOLIDAY THOUGHTS

A virtual hug I gave my step-kids 

  and grandkids today

I live too far away for a in person hug

Many a husband needed to get out of  

       the dog house

Perhaps buying flowers would work

Although I’d be happy with hubby 

  taking me out for a daiquiri or two

Raspberry cake sounds delicious 

 never had tasted it before

Not even sure if the local Publix

  sells them 

JULY JEWELS….Day 19

 

It was an interesting Sunday.  I had a three hour visit with my husband.  He then went to sleep.  I think it’s the meds for the infection that causes the tiredness.  After the visit went home for lunch then about three thirty ran out to the store.  I needed a few things and I had to pick up the pickles for the Amvets for the Bloody Marys. Even though he’s in rehab, my husband is still making sure he donates the pickles.  I just hope next time they give me notice when the last jar is half empty. 

Today a new week begins and I have a lot to do today.  It seems I always have something that needs done. It’s getting out of hand but I’ll get through it. 

I’m wondering when my next day to stay home and just relax will be.  

My observation from yesterday is those who have no idea they have turn signals on their cars.  Maybe they are broken; if so there are a lot of broken signals out there.  My thought on the subject is that the car salespeople should explain the workings of the car to the buyer.  Explain this is the steering wheel; this is the lever to activate the windshield wipers and this lever on the left activates the lights and turn signals. 

Well it’s just a thought. 

This is a short read as I need to get myself in gear.

No caviar for me….yuck…yuck 

I don’t care if it’s an expensive luxury

 Sour candy treats I can take or leave 

Though an ear of sweet corn

  with my meal sounds perfect 

Ice cream for dessert with chocolate 

   sauce

Yes that will be satisfying 

JULY JEWELS….Day 18

 

Good morning it’s Sunday. This is a short piece today.  Yesterday seemed to have no big issues or Murphy’s Law did not affect me.  Only thing was I had the time incorrect for my visit with my husband. That happens as  I typed wrong information on my daily calendar. It worked out well as I was early not late. 

Terry had me thinking about YOGI BEAR yesterday; that was the daily vintage cartoon. Now I enjoyed the antics of him trying to steal picnic baskets.  It seemed most baskets always had a pie or cake. I don’t recall seeing cookies or donuts in them. Of course that is my observation and feeling.  He’s still popular today as he is in a recent commercial these days. 

As I looked over the wacky holidays, I realize I really never heard of strawberry rhubarb wine.  Yes I’ve heard of strawberry but never rhubarb.  As I’m not a rhubarb fan, seriously doubt I’d enjoy the wine. I can even stomach the idea of strawberry rhubarb pie. 

I hope you all enjoy your Sunday. It’s the last day before Monday rears its ugly head.

At times he would speak in rhymes

If I were to get a tattoo I’d definitely 

 need to drink a bottle of strawberry 

   rhubarb wine first 

After to treat myself I would indulge 

  in a hot dog with chili and peach ice 

     cream cone 

     

JULY JEWELS….Day 17

 

Not sure which day I’m on With Murphy’s Law but I need it to stop already.  I’m not even going there about yesterday.  

The memorial service was beautiful but sad. I did the prayer before the meal.  I sort of chocked up a bit as it was after TAPS and that always makes me tear up. After the pray I found I could rearrange my two o’clock appointment to an earlier time. I then went to visit with my husband. I then decided to call to make appointments for the next week before none were available.  As I mentioned before, he likes late morning visits.  I do also.  

Today I have a late morning visit.  He has a nice roommate who has no family in the area. I visit with him also to make the gentleman feel good. This guy is a treasure of Information about the place.    He says he has no problems with anything there.  

Now Terry is getting into cartoons that first appeared when I was younger. I recall and enjoyed the cartoon HUCKLEBERRY HOUND.  My favorite part about him was his trying to sing.  To me he sang off key.  If I recall I think this cartoon came on in the evening as I remember watching after supper.  Funny but we had no idea the Huckleberry was blue as color television was not in our home at the time.  You only knew he might have been blue in color because of his name.

It is Saturday and a new day begins.  What will go wrong today?  What does the fates have in store for me?  It’s a crap shoot for sure.

Why do they have a special day?

Spinach is good in a salad but no other 

     way 

Unfortunately my personal chef

 (my husband) is in rehab

  won’t be making me a meal today

If he were home he’d try to do

  corn fritters and fried haddock

JULY JEWELS….Day 16

 

Good Morning!  It’s Friday!

I must say my Murphy’s Law continued yesterday.  My husband had a test at the hospital this morning. His rehab set it all up for him to go; late yesterday afternoon the hospital calls to reschedule for some stupid reason that was their error not on our part. I had to contact the rehab center to let them know. At seven this morning the rehab calls to confirm the information.  It’s one thing after another.  Although this change has helped me rearrange my afternoon schedule. A three o’clock appointment was bumped till two.  This morning I’ll be able to attend a memorial service for an acquaintance.  I found out I may have to do the prayer before the food.  Of course as a writer, I need to come up with something but my mind went blank.  So my dear friend Fran came to the rescue with the prayer she uses in the same situation. I had to tweak it to fit my circumstances and then added a few lines to it.  Not one of my originals but I just could not think.  The prayer I was informed had to be short and to the point.  

Terry gave us all GUMBY and POKEY as the cartoon of the day. This was yet another cartoon that did not interest me. Not sure why? 

As it’s Friday remember to wear your red today. 

I just hope Murphy’s Law don’t continue. It’s getting old indeed.

  but do enjoy a good pudding of rice

     40&8 training pins to my husband’s 

         nurse at rehab
