JULY JEWELS….Day 9

Fifty years ago today July 9th was on a Friday  That day in my barracks at Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland, the WAC in the room next to mine put on her newly cleaned uniform,  My roommate put on an apricot shade dress and white heels. I put a white beaded chocker, that I made a few years prior sound my neck. As for my outfit I donned a white wedding gown and borrowed veil. I was off with the uniformed dressed WAC and my roommate to the county court house in Belair, Maryland to be married. My roommate was to be maid of honor or witness for us both. My husband, decided not to wear his uniform, dressed in a navy blue blazer, gold satin shirt and black pants.  He wore a black beaded chocker (love beads) around his neck. His best man a childhood friend who came down to Maryland for the ceremony. My husband was the best man for the WAC’s groom who like the WAC wore his uniform. It was indeed an odd group who waited in the chamber of the judge that afternoon. After the ceremony we all went for a celebration lunch.  My new husband and I along with the best man headed back to my husband’s hometown for the weekend. I can’t believe that if my first husband was alive today we’d be celebrating fifty years of marriage.  The funniest thing is I never planned to wear a wedding gown. I happened upon it by accident. I had been looking at a store in Wilkes-Barre where my future husband lived for what was then known as a cocktail dress.  The woman waiting on me asked about the reason I was looking for the dress. I explained I was getting married and wanted a fancy dress. I explained I was in the military and being married by justice of the peace.  She said she had something in the back room of the dress department in my price range.  She walked out with a wedding gown. The salesperson explained the dress was for a bride who never used it; actually the bride gained weight and the gown did not fit. There was no way they could alter it.  Sounded strange indeed but when I heard the price I said yes. The gown was thirty dollars.  Yes a thirty dollar wedding gown fifty years ago seemed like a bargain.  I laugh when I think of this as last year an outlet store that carries all sorts of stuff had advertised wedding gowns for thirty-nine dollars.  I saw these first hand in the store. I always laughed about my cheap gown over the years. I carried six long stem red roses as a bouquet. The funny thing was going to the lunch after the ceremony with me in the gown and then actually driving the two and a half hours in the car to Wilkes-Barre.
Yesterday my observation centered around why do packages arrive within an hour of me leaving the house.
The vintage cartoon was TWEETY and SYLVESTER.  After researching them I find Tweety was out in the forties but Sylvester was not. How interesting for sure.  I always cheer for the underdog so always wanted Sylvester to be the victor at least once.
It’s Friday and yes the day to wear red again. I can’t believe this month in going fast.
Hope all of you have a good day.
Until tomorrow….wear your red today and as always Stay Safe.

              DAILY OBSERVATIONS
Why do my packages get delivered
      when I’m not home
They seem to know the minute I leave
Then I get notification my order
      delivered
🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
              POOR PUDDY TAT

“I’m a tiny little bird my name is Tweety
    Pie”
In his cage he’d sing this song as he
  swings on his perch
Sylvester watches….plotting how to
    get to him
“I tawt I taw a puddy tat” Tweetie’s
    catchphrase
Just once did I hope Sylvester would
  be triumph
Created in 1942 Tweety now is 79
  years old
Sylvester only 55 years old
Still entertaining today as when I was a
    kid
