It’s Day 4 of Halloween month. Today my Halloween words of the day were BLACK and ORANGE.
I had to create an acrostic piece using the words. It was a challenge and had to use things about Halloween in it.
I remember the year Halloween came on a Sunday. I ended up wearing a white pleated skirt and Penn State sweatshirt. It was close enough to look like cheerleader without going too overboard. Since it was Sunday we had a feeling kids would start coming in the afternoon. We had our coolers of soda ready. What did happen was our neighbor across the street came with one of her kids and we gave out the soda but she kidded about getting a beer. So we ended up giving her a can of beer. Unfortunately a guy who I’ve seen in the neighborhood bar (it was two doors down) came with his two kids. He asked if he could get a beer too. We handed him one since we sort of knew him. Plus two cans each of sodas for the two kids. He said this was their last block and his wife planned to take over escorting the kids. The following year since Halloween would be on a week day, we did not expect as many kids so we did not go over board buying soda. Well my neighbor came over again with her kid and asked if we were giving out beers too. She had a bag as a joke for us to put it into. Awhile later, this guy comes to the door with three kids (all under age 10). He says hello and mentions this year his escorting the neighbors kids as his were too old to trick-or-treat. He asked if we were giving out beers to adults. He was the guy from the previous year and since I knew him handed him one. Only he also asked for can of soda for his wife who was the driver. It was funny as he said he only offered to help the neighbor as he knew he could get not only a beer from me but the bar (two doors down) as if someone brought in trick-or-treaters the kids got bag of snacks and adult got a free drink.
This did not last too long as the bar had a time limit as I did too. After 8:00pm my lights went to the off position. I realize many of the parents did not have issue with giving out cans of soda as kids usually became thirsty and could have a drink. For awhile Halloween became a tad expensive as not only did I need things to give out at home but needed for my work place also. Many co-workers would bring their kids into the company dressed in costumes. The company did not really frown on it and many employees, like me, had something on hand to give out. I remember one co-worker said with all the candy and goodies her kids got at work she’d not have to taken them out and about that night.
I miss having kids come to the door. Now many places offer a trunk-or-treat where you go with your car; meet up with other people in that spot and give out candy from your trunk. We participated one time it was not as fun or so I thought.
Hope everyone has a wonderful Sunday.
Until tomorrow....as always Stay Safe.

BLACK and ORANGE the colors that
dominate the month of October
*********************************************
Black cats, flying vampire bats and witches
on their brooms
Lighted grinning Jack-o-Lanterns in
the windows and the night of a full moon
As it’s the season of Halloween, these
are things everywhere we see
Clowns, mummies and Frankenstein
monsters at times can be quite scary
Kids dressed up in costumes go door to
door hoping for treats
October the month of apple flavored and
pumpkin spice drinks and food
Reading of paranormal books to get us in
the Halloween mood
And we watch spooky scary movies every
night on a DVD
Nightmares afterwards seem to occur or
do they happen to only me
Going through a haunted house and
walking through a cornfield maze
Every October it’s our yearly tradition as
Halloween is thirty-one days
