HALLOWEEN....Day Ten

It’s Saturday.  Today’s word/words challenge PUMPKIN SPICE.  I had to come up with something in twenty minutes centering around these two words.  It was being out at lunch yesterday a Madison flash fiction to mind as I began to type this up this morning.  The bar and grill or pub, whatever it’s known as in my area as some term it differently, had seasonal beers on tap.  There were two different types of apple cider beer, a pear and of course pumpkin spice.  It triggered the story about Madison doing stories about apple, pear and pumpkin flavored food and drink. What I needed was a good twist about her boyfriend not wanting to go with her to the coffee shop.  As I just type I let the words form on the screen with no idea until the last minute.  I thought he’d not be into pumpkin or apple flavors but came up with better reason for his reluctance.
So yesterday as my husband and I lunched and yes played TAP TV at the bar, we had the hard apple brews.  The bartender gave us samples of another hard cider on tap as well as pear cider.  I had pear cider before, but not a fan.  Unfortunately we did not sample the pumpkin spice.  I always enjoy the seasonal flavored beverages whether it be a good coffee or tea, brew or hard liquor.
I hope you enjoy your Saturday.
Until tomorrow....have a seasonal flavored beverage to celebrate Halloween month and as always Stay Safe.

Madison sighed loudly as she placed the receiver back on the phone.  Her green eyes glared at the telephone.  She was indeed shocked at the conversation she just had with her boyfriend Austin.  They have been seriously dating for over sixteen months and she thought she knew him well; but evidently she did not.  How could he deceive as he had she wondered. How come he is leery about accompanying her for the story about the new coffee shop and trying the fall flavored beverages?  Is it that he doesn’t like pumpkin spice or apple flavored drinks? If so why did she not notice this last year? Of course they had only been dating a few months when Halloween month arrived.  They were still in the early stages of getting to know one another.
Madison thought back to the previous October.  Her work schedule was quite hectic with taking photos of local residents who decorated for Halloween; writing up stories on haunted venues and of course going to the local restaurants and bars to try the various pumpkin spice and apple flavored food and beverages.  She did not, she surmised, notice things about Austin.  He had accompanied her to venues the October past as she wrote about the autumn flavored foods and beverages.  She recalled him sitting patiently with her as she interviewed consumers partaking in enjoying the seasonal items. He seemed to enjoy bring with her as she did her job; or was it he enjoyed the fact that her employer was picking up the tab for food and drink?  No she thought to herself that couldn’t be the issue.  Austin had been with her on a few other work related outings that did not center around free food or drink.  She could not understand why he was reluctant to accompany her the next the evening. She felt as if he did not enjoy being with her anymore.  His lame excuse he had to do his laundry and clean his refrigerator was the most ridiculous thing she ever heard.  Since when does he do his own laundry and cleaning; he had someone come in twice a week to do these chores.
Madison sat thinking about the work related outings he had gone with her.  She always tried the drink specials whether it be a beer, wine, cocktail, flavored coffee or other beverage as well as food specials; he was right there with her sampling the same. It was part of her reporter job for the family owned newspaper.  Drumming her fingers on her desk as her mind whirled with strange scenarios on what could be the issue when it suddenly dawned upon her.  Of course Austin wouldn’t want to be with her; it had nothing to do with trying the pumpkin spice coffee or scones at the coffee shop or the hard apple cider tea or donuts.  It was the fact that new owners took over the coffee shop in the past three months.  She should have realized it immediately when given the assignment. She should have refused this story.   Perhaps she could switch this story with her sister-in-law, Lisa; and take Lisa’s pub story.  Austin would have no issues going to a bar to enjoy pumpkin spice, apple cider and pear cider beer; as well as the October special cocktails.  His ex-girlfriend’s family don’t own the bar.  At least it wasn’t his dislike for pumpkin spice, apple and pear flavored food and drink; if so she’d have to rethink about dating him.
