MAY DAYS of FUN....Day Nine

Some reason Saturday as a kid popped into my head when I woke up at 4:00am.  I knew I had to get my thoughts down.  What I recall was the cereal I ate would be usually corn flakes, Cheerios or Rice Krispies.  Sometimes I’d make two slices of toast with jelly or jam instead of cereal. It depended what we had on hand. By eight I was in front of the television to watch cartoons.  Only two hours were permitted as there were weekend chores to do.  The afternoons were time to get fresh air by bike riding or walking to the nearby park. I’d swing for hours and climb monkey bars. Of course there were times other things took precedence.  Saturday evening supper was always the same.  I thought everyone ate burgers and homemade fries and had ice cream for their Saturday night meal. What I hated was playing board games.  I considered them bored games as I was bored playing. As a reader I’d rather a book to occupy my time.  I learned fast how to loose (be first one out) a game.  Because everyone else would be playing till the end I got to go off by myself. I’d then read or color.  Yes we popped corn on the stove and melted real butter for it.  A bottle of soda was shared between two of us. During summer months we’d pop corn, put it into the brown grocery store bags along with some candy; we’d head to the drive-in.  It was fun to be able to sit in the car and munch away while watching the latest block buster hit.
Today I guess was my reminiscing day.  After writing these down I fell back to sleep about six.
Until next time....think about your Saturdays as a kid.  Yes....after my second cup of coffee I turned on the Boomerang channel to watch cartoons while I had a bowl of Cheerios.

Day 9    DAILY REFLECTIONS

Saturday morning....I think I’ll have a bowl of
cereal like when I was nine
I’m going turn on the Boomerang
         channel....watch Tom and Jerry
Forget I’m an adult for at least an hour....
    but first I’ll be an
            adult....coffee....coffee....coffee

Hurray for Saturday....or it use to be
Always looked forward to a bowl of cereal
Sitting in front of the television watching
       cartoons
One show after another from eight to ten
   Chore time next till noon
A sandwich, milk and cookies for lunch
Play time till four outdoors (if the elements permitted)....indoors when weather bad
Supper at five....always the same.....homemade burgers and fries....our burger bun two slices of bread....ice cream
   sundaes for dessert....a real treat
Saturday night family nights playing board
     games....although bored games to me
I’d rather been sitting alone with a good
Nancy Drew or Trixie Belden mystery
I made certain I’d be first to loose at
the games to sneak away for reading time
We’d pop corn on the stove for a
snack....have a six ounce glass of soda
Now it’s coffee and a everything bagel and
cream cheese as I watch the news
Catching up on errands and other chores
    Quick lunch....more of the same
        Saturday evening Mass....dinner
A game on the IPad....glass of wine or
       two
I now realize I miss the Saturdays of my youth....even the boring board games
