MAY DAYS of FUN....Day Twenty-five

Today is Memorial Day.  As in past years I’ve composed a poem for the day: dedicated to either family member who served in the military or family member of a friend who served in the military.  This year it’s my husband’s uncle and his cousin. The other is for another family member and an acquaintance from my Amvets Post. Old Bill, as he was known, was one of the few remaining World War II veterans at the post.
I actually composed these pieces a few days ago for today. That day, as again this morning, my thoughts centered around people saying Happy Memorial Day.  As you can read in the poem and daily reflections I am not a fan of saying Happy Memorial Day but that’s my opinion and my prerogative to feel so.  Today, as many places are not holding services, please take a moment to remember those who have given their lives in the service of our country.  This morning posted the poem on the Facebook page of my Amvets for our followers to read.
Until next time....as it’s National Hamburger Day if you desire enjoy one; it’s also National Wine Day do lift a glass to those who gave their lives for us to enjoy the freedoms we enjoy.

        Day 25....DAILY REFLECTIONS

I hope no one tries to wish me a HAPPY
MEMORIAL DAY....Today is not a day of
      celebration....but some will still post
those words on social media...just tell
me Good Morning or Good Day
There is nothing happy about a day we
remember those who died in the service
of our country....of course that’s my
               personal opinion
I will take time for a few moments of silence
to all who have gone before....They Gave
          Their All

Memorial Day IS NOT a day of celebration
Do not wish me a HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY
It’s a solemn day to honor those who
        made the ultimate sacrifice
The ones who served our nation with honor
       and pride
Never faltering or shirking in their duties
Upon foreign soil they fought for the rights
so all may live without tyranny
The day is not about picnics, barbecues,
   lake and park outings
It’s a day to remember those who slumber
under grassy covers mounds Who....without reservation....left behind
their family and friends to fight for
liberty never knowing how their day
              would end
DO NOT wish me a HAPPY MEMORIAL Day
Instead....express your gratitude to those
      who have given their all
Pay tribute with a few moments of silence
remembering always those who shed their
     blood....not for glory....but for freedom

In the air, on land and sea
In the desert, in the jungle and on
             mountains
Brave men and women fought the foe
Off to war they proudly marched the
          G.I. Janes and Joes
Giving their all to our nation
    Wherever they would be
Preserving the right for freedoms sake
For everyone not just for you and me

Pershing upon the field of battle
With pride did they heroically serve
Today we will pay them honor
For that is what they do deserve
Today a grateful nation pays tribute
To thank those who have sacrificed
We lower the flags to half mast,
     fire a twenty-gun volley
             and sound “Taps
One way we say “Thank You” for the
           freedoms in our life
