MARVELOUS MAY....Day 31

It’s 3:30am.
I’m awake thinking of all I need to do today.  First I need breakfast then at 10:00am pick up the cupcakes for the Amvets luncheon. Next I need to deliver said cupcakes. I’ll be reading my poem at the services; then take photos of the services. Busy yes busy.
On Memorial Day I need a few moments of silence to pay honor and tribute to all who died while still in uniform; I then say a silent prayer to family members, friends and acquaintances who served in the military and have passed away.  I drink a toast to the first group then have a second toast for the next group.
The first piece seemed appropriate and it just flowed quickly. As for the UK word challenge piece it says it all. As a kid I love popsicles and I still do. Really doesn’t matter the flavor but let’s say cherry, lime, grape, root beer, then orange and yes the banana flavored.
I still buy them once in a while.  But these days I enjoy the Italian ice.
It’s time for me to get a few more hours sleep.
Please take a moment of silence for those who perished on the field of battle.  If possible attend a parade, Memorial Day service or flag raising.
It’s the last day of May today.
Until tomorrow and next month....a new week begins today; and as always Stay Safe.

              END of WEEKEND
Sunday usually means another
    weekend ends....not this week
Tomorrow is a holiday....it’s Memorial
      Day
The day we pay our
  respects....honoring those
  who made the ultimate sacrifice
Upon foreign soil they perished....giving
   their all for freedom
A grateful nation pays honor....with
moments of silence....a twenty-one
gun volley....and the haunting sound of
    TAPS
To those who never made it out of
   uniform

On a hot summer day an ice lolly

My favorite popsicle flavor cherry

Let’s just say I enjoy ice pops

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 30

It’s 4:00am.  I keep thinking about why people keep saying HAPPY MEMORIAL DAY. There is NOTHING to be happy about a day we honor men and women who died in the service of our country. What is happy about honoring military personnel who died in war?  NOTHING!
Okay so I feel this way and it’s my opinion.  But please think about what the day means. Naturally this will be my pet peeve until the holiday is over.
Today is actually the traditional Decoration Day.  I remember that was what it was called when I was in school.    May 30th the traditional day but changed around 1971 to Memorial Day and a three day holiday weekend.
Funny on the word CHEMIST.  I’ve seen it used before in books I’ve read.  Guess it could be chemist shop but when I think of chemist my mind imagines an individual mixing things up in test tubes and beakers.  I look forward each day for the UK word challenge.
Today is Memorial Day Eve.  Yesterday I presented poppy pins to a few individuals.  Three were members of the Honor Guard at my Amvets.  They think the pins will look good on the covers.  I mentioned I hope to get the pins again next year.  I’ve had a few inquire about where I found them. Of course it was a surprise I did find them.
Yesterday I had a nice long visit with my husband and see him again today.  Unfortunately I won’t be able to see him tomorrow.  One reason the appointments are all taken and second I’ll be busy with Memorial Day activities.  I had hoped to visit after services to see him but no appointments for visiting available I was told. I’ll see him Tuesday again.
Yesterday and today again I’ve posted one of my Memorial Day poems from years past.  I’ll be posting the one I will read on Memorial Day in tomorrow’s posting on Facebook.
It’s Sunday.
Until tomorrow....enjoy your day and as always Stay Safe.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 29

Saturday and the first day of the Memorial Day Weekend.  I’ve always been busy years past on Sunday and Monday attending services at different veterans organizations.  As a past American Legion commander my post held services Sunday afternoon.  On Monday as adjutant for the Veterans of Vietnam War post we would be involved in parades in the area.  It was quite a busy two days.
After I married my second husband we’d sometimes meet friends to go to services on Sunday at a few places; on Monday have services at the American Legion where we held membership.  I began to compose pieces to read each year as a member of that Legion post.
Now that I live in Florida I’m involved with the Amvets and the Forty and Eight (40&8).  I’ve began to read at services held at the Amvets.  It does keep my mind active to compose pieces to read.
I have many fond memories of Memorial Day events past.  How I remember seeing the community come out to show support of the organization holding the service and paying tribute to those who died for their county. As I conducted services in the cemetery, I can remember seeing the community came out to be a part of the event. The local churches in the area would list the service in their church bulletins. They would list them for two weeks prior to the service as well as the Sunday the services held. I remember no one ever inquired if there would be free food at the Legion post after the ceremony.
It seems people now seem to only show up for the free food available.  Some will sit inside the post building while the service is held; but as soon as the food ready they are the first in line. No donation will they put into the donation jar and on top of that take a TOGO box.  It does irate me to no end.
It bothers me to know they are more interested in when they can get the free eats; not why the services are being held.  This of course is my personal opinion.  I attend and get involved in the services to pay honor to those heroes who died in service of the country.
If I get free food is not an issue.
Yesterday was National Poppy Day. I was happy that someone came by the Amvets to bring and sell the poppies. I got one to put in my husbands room at rehab. Funny the poppy lapel pins I ordered arrived yesterday. I think I’ll order them again next year.
I hope you all have a great day.
Until tomorrow....remember what this weekend is all about; and as always Stay Safe.

                FRIDAY AGAIN
Friday arrived so suddenly
Today I’m wearing my RED

    Red hat upon my head

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 28

I actually did not wake up early.  I slept in until a later hour and here it’s 9:00am and I’m writing this. Outside I hear birds chirping and my neighbor’s dog barking at passing traffic.
Today I really don’t have any place to go. I saw my husband yesterday seeing him again tomorrow and Sunday.
Later today I’ll go out as I need few things from the store for Monday for the Amvets.  We’re having hamburgers and hot dogs after our Memorial Day Services.  I volunteered to pick up different type pickles.
I’m still debating which of last year’s poems to read. I’m now leaning toward the one about what the day is and is not.  Generally I don’t have an option but this year I do; wrote two pieces last year I never read due to COVID lockdown.
Yesterday I wondered about the traffic on the road. It was if the snowbirds never left.  I wondered about it all.
It’s Friday and a three day holiday weekend begins tomorrow.  If you have any plans; one should be to try to attend a Memorial Day event in your community; buy a poppy from the American Legion and give a few moments of silence for those who perished upon the battle field. There are seventy-two hours in the three day weekend; taking time out to remember those who gave their all is not asking much.
Until tomorrow....remember to wear your red today and as always Stay Safe.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 27

Yeah an extra hour before I woke up; it’s 4:00am.
Yesterday indeed a busy day. Like I said in part of yesterday’s blog, I had lots to do. Finally finished up around eleven. Then it was lunch and texting with people about things.  My garbage got picked up around noon. Earlier than in weeks past.  I think it’s to confuse me or perhaps it’s there isn’t as many bins to pick up with the snowbirds gone.
Today I visit my husband. He likes late morning visits for some strange reason. I like visits around 1-1:30 time.  Seems traffic better then for some reason.
I’m thinking ahead to Memorial Day.  Last year with lockdown we did not hold Memorial Day services at the Amvets or any other Veteran’s organization.  I did compose two different pieces to read. This year I’m skipping writing something new and will read the one I never read last year.
I wrote one piece on not telling me Happy Memorial Day.  What is happy about it?  It’s a day of solemn remembrance and one to be paying honor to those who gave the ultimate sacrifice.
Yesterday the past President of the auxiliary at my Amvets had an interesting Facebook post. It was words on a headstone. It gave the difference between Armed Forces Day, Veterans Day and Memorial Day.
It read:
  ARMED FORCES DAY
     for those still in uniform

  VETERANS DAY
for those who hung up their
        uniform

MEMORIAL DAY
for those who never made it out of
        their uniform ———————————————————-
Some people need to be reminded of the difference from time to time.
It’s Thursday and as I call it Friday Eve.
Until tomorrow....have a great day and until tomorrow Stay Safe.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 26

So I’m awake again at 3:00am well few minutes past.
Yesterday was National Wine Day and today is National Chardonnay Day. Gee two wine days in a row.
I thought about wine hitting the spot yesterday.  It was only a thought; I did not have any.
I think the daily UK word WHEELIE BIN was so appropriate for yesterday.  Tuesday evening is the day I take my trash bin to the curb as garbage picked up is on Wednesday.  What is odd is that my garbage use to be picked up early in the day, but the past months it’s late in the afternoon.  Garbage day for me is also recycling day and the recycling truck comes right after seven at times.  Seems to wake me up sometimes if I’m not up by 7:00am.
Well it’s now 8:45. I fell back to sleep about 4:30am but the recycling truck woke me at 7:15am.  Well I got up and got ready for the day; and was out to the grocery store by 7:45.  I’m home now by 8:30.  Love shopping early and yes I wrote my list on my phone.  YES I stuck to the list.  I have few more stores to hit later after breakfast. Well I have two errands done already; the first was a call to the bakery department of Publix to order patriotic cupcakes for the Amvets Memorial Day cookout after services.
Now time for breakfast and post this.
It’s Hump Day.  A three day weekend coming up.
Until tomorrow....enjoy the day and as always Stay Safe.
🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷🍷

             DAILY THOUGHT
A glass of Moscato will hit the spot
But a glass of Sangria would work too
Actually any wine would work to

            WEEKLY ROUTINE
Tonight my wheelie bin and I take a

Tomorrow binny will be emptied into

Later I’ll be a-rolling wheelie bin back

The same routine every week

Drying with my fluffy towel
My mind begins to form today’s plans
Taking a brown bag lunch to the lake
Will sit on the dock watch the boaters
     and jet skiers
Open one of the small bottles of
  moscato and enjoy my afternoon
Who knows after drinking both single serve bottles of wine
I may tap dance home

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 25

It’s 3:30am right now. I am surprised to be awake again so early.  I see a nap in the late morning before I visit my husband at 1:00pm and then hurry to a 3:00pm meeting.  I’ve actually have laid down at 10:00am then up at 11:30am before getting ready to head out. Of course that’s not recent but I can see this happening today.
Although I’m up at 3:30am I’m making this a short read; probably play a game or two to try to get me sleepy again.
Yesterday my daily thought was on the drink special at the club. I laughed about how much I had in my pocket as not to have to open my wallet.
The daily word yesterday was TORCH. I knew from a few books taken place in the UK what a torch was.  Unfortunately the piece I wrote comes from my life. I’ve used a flashlight πŸ”¦ in the dark where the battery life was short.  I have tripped going up the steps in the dark trying to get into the house. My thoughts on that is why don’t I check the batteries on occasion.
I hope you enjoy today as one wacky holiday is National Wine Day.  Think I’ll have a glass later.
Until tomorrow....enjoy my your wine 🍷 and as always Stay Safe.
Now a few hands of Free Cell to fall asleep.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 24

I’m still having sleep issues.  It’s the stress of having my husband in rehab. I’ll fall asleep at good hour but wake up at odd hours. Decided if I write something there are times I can’t fall back to sleep so I’ve found playing a game or two helps.
Funny but the past few days I put out my clothes for the next day. I realized that lately I’m into camouflage shirts.  I have three in pink, two black and white and two in a blue color.  Yesterday I wore a V-neck shirt in pink; today’s is a softer pink material with scoop neck. I feel like I’m going on maneuvers dressed in these shirts.  Enough on my wardrobe.
The other day I used the daily word of GAGGING incorrectly. Because of this I composed another piece using it in the correct context. Yesterday the daily word was CRACKING.  Some of these words are really funny; hard at times to try to use them.  It’s an education to learn something new each day.
It’s Monday and a new week begins.  Let’s all make this a great week as a three day weekend coming up.
Until tomorrow....have a great day and as always Stay Safe.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 23

It’s Sunday. Another weekend has gone. I don’t really know what I did to make the day speed by yesterday. I guess paying bills takes time; doing stuff for volunteer work takes time and of course doing few errands. Whew!

I have been trying to get more sleep these days with all the stress I have, it’s hard to sleep through the night. So I wake up sometimes I write this blog but last few nights I’ve read and tried to fall back to sleep.
The birds seems to wake me up each morning. There are days I hear only one at a time but some mornings I heard more as if it’s a choir. I used this in my daily observation.
Let’s try to discuss Terry’s daily word from the UK which was GAGGING. How strange a word indeed. It seems to be the same as I thought; prevent a person from speaking with piece of cloth over or in mouth.
I just wrote four lines about how stopping a person from talking did not help; she told it all anyway.
The wacky holidays seemed to fit together for a day of being lazy.  We need these days every now and then.
I had an interesting experience happen. There are certain songs that bring up memories of days gone by. These songs trigger at times thoughts of individuals I once knew.  These were songs I enjoy hearing time and again.  Last evening I listened to karaoke singers; some were good and others well let me say I needed a gong. Two specific songs triggered my memory bank. Unfortunately these were great songs but now I have second thoughts about them.  Seemed two singers ruined them for me and any special memories I have of the people who I relate to them. Thanks karaoke for taking pleasant memories from me.
Please understand I’m not against karaoke but I think some singers need to not try certain songs.  Of course if they do, they need to have it put in their specific range for their voice.
I hope you have a great rest of your day.
Until tomorrow....do something fun today and as always Stay Safe.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 22

The RED Shirt Challenge was on yesterday. It looked like according to our group photo our veterans post won with most people.  I passed out the RED Friday wrist bands on behalf of our 40&8 Voiture who donated them.
Personally I think a challenge is childish.  It’s like I double dare you from when I was a kid.  Come on people we all are adults.  Not everyone owns a red shirt but maybe wearing red socks like one of the guys did can count.   He had come from work in the shirt he wears for his business; no time to change.
Anyhow since it seems we won I just saw that we’ve been challenged again. How utterly childish indeed.
The UK word for yesterday was NARKY. Well I get snarky at times and maybe a bit narky but that’s me.
Yesterday was quite a busy day.  After being with my husband at the hospital I had to go do the pics of those in red shirts at the Amvets.  Now it’s getting caught up today. Lots to do, lots to do.
It’s Saturday.
Until tomorrow....have a great day and as always Stay Safe.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 21

It’s Friday.
It’s 3:00am. I’m up and awake. Can’t sleep. Too much going on in my head.
Again yesterday I was asked about my husband by people who have not asked about him for months.  I wonder if someone said something to them that I had been upset.   One never knows. These days I’ve been crying more often.  I need to stay strong but at times it is hard. One thing I can’t break down in front of my husband.  It won’t help him and he’d feel guilty that he’s put me in that predicament.
First I had to laugh about this daily UK word of TROLLEY. I’d never associate it with a shopping cart.  I’ve gotten to the point of calling it a cart over the years; but now living in Florida I call it a buggy or shopping buggy.  I see it as a buggy to push my item around the store; or you can say I’m carting items I want to purchase.
My thought yesterday was I feel like I am in a soap opera; at least my life with all the issues I’m having.  It seems at times I’m whirling here and there.  Definitely in a tailspin.  Enough now on the subject.
Today the challenge is on for wearing red. I received at 8:30pm last night the RED FRIDAY wrist bands. It was too late to take them over to the club so guess it’ll be first thing today when they open.
I may need a few to give out at hospital if possible. Not sure on their policy for what they can wear.
Until tomorrow....have a great day and as always Stay Safe.

         THOUGHT For MAY 20th

It’s another day of my life
At times I feel I’m in a real life soap
  opera
That’s why I title my life
“As My Life Whirls and Whirls”

😸😸😸😸😸😸😸😸😸😸😸😸😸

          WHATEVER IT IS
UK calls it a trolley
Southerns say buggy
But everyone else uses a shopping cart
does not matter what it’s termed
It does the job of holding your
   purchases at the store
I just call it a cart

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 20

This is another rather short blog piece.
No word on my husband’s latest blood tests. The one from Tuesday found high white blood cell count.  He was lethargic to me but I think it’s the meds.  He actually told me to leave and I did.
I’m praying all will be okay. It’s indeed very scary and it takes a toll on me too.
I had to run over to the club to see someone regarding the RED shirt challenge yesterday. As I went there it seemed everyone wanted to talk with me. I broke down and cried to a few people.  After I cried I felt better.
Well seems I was a visible person yesterday. That’s my daily observation on the subject.
Yesterday the UK word was GUTTED. Now to me that is a term when one cleans fish. Yes I gutted many fish in my day. But unfortunately the UK has a different meaning. I’ve been gutted many times according to their definition.  I rather be chuffed than gutted.
This has been a strange week of clothes for me.  I’m waiting for someone to mention it. Everyday this week I’ve worn a camouflage shirt.  Monday was a tan one, Tuesday one in blue, yesterday pink and today black and white.  I feel like I’m on maneuvers as my husband would mention.
As I wait and hope my package of RED FRIDAY wrist bands arrive today, I need to go see my husband at 10am. I like to be there in time for the doctor visit.
It seems this RED shirt Friday challenge is gearing up to be fun.  My Amvets had been challenged, as I said, from a local Legion.  Everyday this week I’ve been posting reminders on the Amvets Facebook page regarding the challenge.  It takes me awhile to work up the reminders to make them eye catching.  I’ve now been putting my initials in the lower corner so no one can try to pass them off as theirs.
Yes I’ll keep you posted on how this goes.
It’s Friday Eve as I say.  May you all be chuffed today and not a gutted day.
Until next time....have a good day and Stay Safe.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 19

Yesterday we had a nice breeze. I opened the windows for fresh air.  Unfortunately I began to sneeze; but did not close the windows. I wrote an observation on that incident.
I decided to try to be twenty minutes early for visiting hours yesterday just to get a good parking spot.  It did not happen my spot was terrible.  Oh well is all I can say.
I loved yesterday’s daily word. It was CHUFFED.  The word means being happy but when I saw it, I thought it the opposite.  Funny isn’t it.  In my opinion chuffed would make a better word for unhappy.  Such as saying, “their attitude has me chuffed”.
Today is Wednesday and it’s hump day.
Where has the past few days gone?
I don’t think I’ve done anything but sit with my husband at the hospital, come home to eat then watch a bit of TV then read before falling asleep.
It’s just been like I’m in a fog lately.
At the moment there’s a challenge on by a local legion post to all other veterans posts in the area about wearing red in Friday.  A few of our Amvets members wanted to make sure I got word out on our Amvets Facebook page which I did and have been every day so far.  Not only should red shirts be worn, but there are other ways to show support.  I found an interesting small list of suggestions and used it as part of my ad for today.  One can wear red socks, hat, scarf, shorts, ribbon in the hair or red wrist band.  I’ve ordered red wrist bands and hope they arrive as they should tomorrow.  I’ll take them to the Amvets to give to our members to wear.
In a way the challenge is nice but it’s in a way childish.  We are after all adults. We are aware, as being involved in veterans organization, about wearing red on Fridays. I guess whoever started this challenge is just looking for a way to make certain we remember to do so; but a large veterans post as compared to a smaller one it’s unfair. Of course the larger will have more people there.
Now the funny thing is that the challenge post (a legion) used my Amvets ad I created to remind their members
Until tomorrow....have a good day and as always Stay Safe.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 18

 It’s 5:45am.  I had a decent nights sleep.

Yesterday I was highly upset. They now are doing blood work on my husband to determine if he has possibly bone cancer. The results will take a few days they say.  I left the hospital very upset.
I don’t want to talk about it anymore right now.  I just need to let this all settle into my mind and pray it’s not that.
Of course I ran over to the club to buy a friend a birthday drink. My husband wanted me to make sure I bought the guy a drink.  Well there are some people saying I don’t care about my husband since I was there.  These people don’t know that he asked me to do this.  Secondly they have no idea how I’m suffering inside. Third do they realize I might need to be around others at this time.  No they only gossip. If I were alone at home do they have any idea what I might do? No they do not!
Enough said on them.
That’s what I wrote about in the daily observation.
The daily UK word was KNACKERED.  I like saying that as many would not understand it. I’ve been feeling that way quite a few days.  Guess this is all taken a toll on me.
Well I’m taking it day by day and pray.  Prayer does help.
Until tomorrow....another day in “As My Life Whirls and Whirls” has started; as always everyone Stay Safe.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 17

It’s Monday again.  Where did the weekend go?  Seems like it was Friday morning.  My weekend of course was taken up at the hospital visiting my husband. Today I’ll be going back again in few hours.
Yesterday the daily word was MATE. Now I’ve heard it as an Aussie word but not sure if I’ve heard it with being used as a word in the UK.  If so I may have never paid attention hearing it or reading it. Of course I used few other words I researched from the UK.
Yesterday I did an observation on life.  I felt as if I was needed; some days I don’t.
I used the wacky holidays in thoughts.
As said it was my newest thing to write thoughts or observations instead of other pieces.
This is a short piece as I have a busy day.  Seems most days are busy days anymore.
I’m sort of tired of the stupid questions asked before I go into the hospital to see my husband. One the other day was have I lost sense of smell. After five other questions, I said “no I have not lost my sense of smell; I can smell your after shave it sucks”.   I was really ticked at this guy’s questions.  Yes they need to ask due to COVID but they were getting out of hand. I think I also gave a stupid response cause I was upset.
Well time to get cracking now.
Until tomorrow....have a nice day and as always Stay Safe.

MARVELOUS MAY....Day 16

It’s Sunday!  This will be short and sweet. Yesterday I spent the day at the hospital with my husband.  He had few tests done.  He did not sleep well the night prior so he finally was falling asleep about three in the afternoon.  I left shortly after having been there about six hours.  This takes a toll on me too.  Not being able to do anything for him but sit in the chair.  At least he knows I’m there though.
Today I plan to go over around noon till
around six or seven. Will depend on how he feels.  I’ve always thought patients don’t need someone there all hours visiting when they need rest. But this is just my opinion.
I did not sleep well for two nights either. Of course once the birds start in the morning no way can one sleep.  That’s my daily thought. I’m between writing daily pieces, thoughts and observations these days.
Yesterday the word of the day was FAG. Not sure why the call cigarettes FAGS in the UK.  Definitely it’s an odd word.
Until tomorrow....I need to get a move on today; so as always Stay Safe.
