Saturday and the first day of the Memorial Day Weekend. I’ve always been busy years past on Sunday and Monday attending services at different veterans organizations. As a past American Legion commander my post held services Sunday afternoon. On Monday as adjutant for the Veterans of Vietnam War post we would be involved in parades in the area. It was quite a busy two days.
After I married my second husband we’d sometimes meet friends to go to services on Sunday at a few places; on Monday have services at the American Legion where we held membership. I began to compose pieces to read each year as a member of that Legion post.
Now that I live in Florida I’m involved with the Amvets and the Forty and Eight (40&8). I’ve began to read at services held at the Amvets. It does keep my mind active to compose pieces to read.
I have many fond memories of Memorial Day events past. How I remember seeing the community come out to show support of the organization holding the service and paying tribute to those who died for their county. As I conducted services in the cemetery, I can remember seeing the community came out to be a part of the event. The local churches in the area would list the service in their church bulletins. They would list them for two weeks prior to the service as well as the Sunday the services held. I remember no one ever inquired if there would be free food at the Legion post after the ceremony.
It seems people now seem to only show up for the free food available. Some will sit inside the post building while the service is held; but as soon as the food ready they are the first in line. No donation will they put into the donation jar and on top of that take a TOGO box. It does irate me to no end.
It bothers me to know they are more interested in when they can get the free eats; not why the services are being held. This of course is my personal opinion. I attend and get involved in the services to pay honor to those heroes who died in service of the country.
If I get free food is not an issue.
Yesterday was National Poppy Day. I was happy that someone came by the Amvets to bring and sell the poppies. I got one to put in my husbands room at rehab. Funny the poppy lapel pins I ordered arrived yesterday. I think I’ll order them again next year.
I hope you all have a great day.
Until tomorrow....remember what this weekend is all about; and as always Stay Safe.

FRIDAY AGAIN
Friday arrived so suddenly
Today I’m wearing my RED
Red socks I placed upon my feet
Red hat upon my head
Red tee shirt and red wrist bands
RED....Remember Everyone Deployed
Always don my red on Friday
Something none of us should avoid
🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
SASSY PANTS
Having a lot to do today
Can’t decide where to start
I won’t wig out or get my knickers in a
knot
Instead I’ll put on my big girl panties
wear my favorite sassy pants
And deal with it all
🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻🍻
WACKY HOLIDAYS MAY 28th
(Red Friday; Poppy Day; National
Hamburger Day; National Cooler
Day; National Wig Out Day and
National Polka Day)
I am not wigging out
as it’s Friday
wearing my RED today
With a cooler in my trunk
to hold my perishable foods
heading to shop for cookout items
Ground meat on my list for grilling
hamburgers on Memorial Day
Wonder if the Legion auxiliary will be
selling poppies outside the grocery
store
Just hope I don’t hear a polka on the oldies station from the car radio
