I’ve decided to do a vignette today instead of a poem. My husband gave me the word MASK with which to create a twenty minute vignette. It came quickly as I thought about the current situation with us wearing masks.
It was a fun piece to write and may decide to do another for tomorrow on yet another word or words of his choosing.
My reflection is about that now the Amvets has opened; they are still doing daily drink specials. Monday is the one dollar draft day special. As I do the ads for their Facebook page I found an old photo on the web that I could use. It’s surprising things that come to mind at four or five in the morning. I wake up input my thought; use the bathroom and go back to sleep at times. Thanks goodness for having my phone handy to type these things. I’m in the vignette mood now and probably will be doing them in my blog. They’ll become part of my book, when I get things together, Glimpses of Life; a collection of a look into the life of different Individuals.
Until next time....enjoy your Monday and the first day of a new week.

June 8....DAILY REFLECTIONS
Monday....yes it’s $1.00 draft beer day at
the AMVETS....but I’ll stay at home yet
for awhile
No need to be venturing out yet....maybe
tomorrow or day after
Just need to decide which daily special I’d
enjoy....whiskey or margaritas

TO MASK or NOT to MASK
© Scottie-ann Murphy
(For Tom, my neighbor’s cat)
June 7, 2020)
Sarah pulled into the parking lot of her favorite pub, O’Shea’s. It had been over eighty days since she’d been inside. Now that the governor reopened the state to Phase II, the bars, pubs and clubs were once again ready to greet their loyal customers. Sarah sat in her cranberry Honda staring at the patrons flocking to go inside.
She noticed than half wore face masks. She pondered if she should wear one or not. After all she had spent her free time making masks for herself, family and friends during the ‘Stay at Home’ order. Looking over at the tote bag on the passenger seat, Sarah thought about the ones inside. There had to be at least fifteen different masks she had made for herself; each with an unique material print from beer mugs to her favorite college football team.
“Which one should I wear?”, she thought to herself; “and do I really want to wear a mask inside the pub?”
Sarah thought about how hard it would be to wear the mask and try to enjoy a beer or glass of wine. Still unsure if it was in her best interest to be out and about yet, Sarah’s thoughts tumbled around in her mind like clothes in a dryer. She had planned to meet her friends for a few drinks and bite to eat. “It would be nice seeing everyone in person and catching up, but...
There was that but again”.
After ten minutes of debating with herself, Sarah opened the tote bag, grabbed a mask depicting beer mugs, then leisurely got out of the car. She placed the mask on her face and nonchalantly sauntered to the entrance of O’Shea’s. Opening the door, she stepped inside trying to locate her friends.
Two customers stood to one side waiting for the hostess to appear.
A young woman wearing the pubs tee shirt and black shorts approached them.
“Sorry,” she said “we’re at our full capacity for the moment. We do have seating outside.”
Sarah did not hesitate a minute. She thanked the hostess, turned toward the door and walked back to her car.
“I have beer, whiskey and wine at home. Today I’ll drink with Tom and Tari. At least I don’t have to wear a mask around my cats.”
