My husband does have a sense of humor. The writing prompt words were DILL PICKLES and AMVETS.
As a life member of the organization it was not easy to try to come up with a quick twenty-minute vignette using the word with the word dill pickles but I thought about a funny story as I opened a bag of chips for a snack right before doing the timed piece. Why not compose a funny story about person buying a variety of snacks for the July 4th cook out. It’s not too far fetched from me as I generally end up taking a plate of pepperoni and a plate of summer sausage along with a container of cheese balls and a container of rod pretzels. The pretzels have been going over big as a snack. He thought for sure I’d write about donating the pickles (dill and sweet) to the AMVETS for their Bloody Mary drinks. But I took the vignette in a weird angle with purchasing chips. There are so many flavors out there. I must admit I try new flavors whenever possible. To be honest I miss the chips I would get back home in Pennsylvania, Middleswarth Chips. Yes I’m a fan of just their plain with the jalapeΓ±o flavor a close second. The Herr’s Company makes a horseradish cheddar that is good. I can not locate them in the stores in my area, so I generally order or I have ordered a case of them from my AMVETS post. These cases were used at events for the Forty and Eight (40&8) Grande Promenades. No I’m not doing a commercial here for any part brand of chips, just mentioning which I like best. I think what type of chip you like has to do with the area where you’re from and the local chip there. I grew up in Chicago, we had a local chip made there which now is made elsewhere. Could this vignette ring true oh yes. I can see myself in a bind on bringing a snack for one of the events.
My daily reflections comes from the fact some loud music woke me at 7:00am along with the neighbor’s dog. I think the dog did not like the music. Why do people have to blare their car radios so loud?
Until tomorrow....enjoy your day. Have a chip or two. I picked up vineyard salt for my husband yesterday. It’s been awhile since we had them. Now I’m sort of hungry for those horseradish cheddar.

June 16....DAILY REFLECTIONS
So the day begins....I hear some idiot
driving down the street with loud music
blaring....wasn’t even a good song
My neighbor’s dog barks at the sound of
the music....guess he doesn’t like the
song either
Why do idiots have to blast their music....
why are they waking up the world before
8:00am....not everyone has to be up
with the chickens

SHOP TILL YOU DIP

Sarah stood in the snack aisle of the store. She had no clue what to buy to take to the Independence Day cook out at the Amvets. She volunteered to bring a variety of chips and dip. The dip was easier to decide as it was already made at home from scratch; a sour cream French Onion and a Velveeta and Ro’Tel; no store bought dip for Sarah. Now the decision was potato chips for dipping. Sarah was a fan of Middleswarth JalapeΓ±o chips which she ordered online to be sent to her in Florida. She did not want to share her private stash with the others at the cookout. It’s not like they were her BFFs. She thought about the case of the horseradish cheddar chips she ordered from the post. She could not find that flavor in any of the stores so she would order a case on occasion from the club. No sense in bringing chips they could purchase from the bar. Her eyes fell upon the jalapeΓ±o and cheddar chips right in front of her. They were different and just might be a good choice; she picked up two bags. Next she noticed the salt and vinegar chips, the bags of dill pickle chips and the cracked pepper chips. Sarah decided to pick up two bags each of the other three flavors plus two bags of Frito scoopers. Any left overs, which she knew there would be, could be put out for patrons at the bar during the week. Sarah always over purchased for these events. A potato chip connoisseur, she thought herself, Sarah tried always the newest flavors. Of course her favorite was still the plain Middleswarth and their jalapeΓ±o flavored chips; the horseradish cheddar came a close third. Once she taken a variety of chips to a party; opening different flavors and mixed them all together. Many complaints from those who could not eat spicy foods as well as those who disliked the vinegar and salt flavored. She never made that mistake again.
As she made her way down the aisle she noticed a buy one get one offer for garlic onion flavor chips. She sighed, as she thought about adding that to her shopping cart. “Why not,” she thought to herself.
“It’s a holiday. Eat, drink and be merry.”
She did not hesitate a moment. Chuckling to herself, she picked up the two bags of chips and dropped them into the cart.
“Let the chips fall where they may. I just hope I got everyone’s favorite.”
As she pushed the cart down the aisle she realized one thing. Turning around she headed back towards the potato chips,
“Can’t forget boring plain.”
