Today’s a short reading day.
I remember the first card game I learned to play, Old Maid. I always cried that I seem to end up with it time after time. In a funny way it reminds me of getting the queen of spades in the card game hearts. I enjoyed playing old maid with my aunt; I also remember a child’s rummy game too. Now I play card games on my iPhone; Hearts, Spades, Pitch, Solitaire and Free Cell are the apps I have. Free Cell is a challenge to me. I am doing this game in numeric order. According to what I read some place there are over 10,000 possible combinations. I don’t play more than a few games a day so at the moment I am up to over 2,000. It was my husband who got me hooked to play Free Cell as he played it of course on the computer. Now it seems he doesn’t play it that often. I am on a rain kick for poems; with it being National Cognac Day I wanted to use cognac in a poem (a challenge and prompt) piece. My husband likes to challenge me with writing something with certain theme using certain words in certain time frame. He thought it funny to mention cognac and rain in the same piece.
Well Phase 2 of re-opening our state will begin tomorrow. Should be interesting to see all who will be flocking to their favorite watering holes. Me, I plan to still practice caution.
Until next time....It’s NATIONAL HUG YOUR CAT Day; I don’t have one but I’m hoping my neighbor’s cat, Tom, stops by. After all the cat and I shared wine on Drink Wine with Your Cat Day awhile back.

RAINY SPRING EVENING
© Scottie-ann Murphy
Lightning bolts across the sky
Thunder rumbles in the distance
Lights flash off and on
Rain pitter-patters upon the tin roof
Serenading us on a warm spring evening
Flickering lights a warning sign
to light the hurricane lamps
ready the candles
Safe are we....side by side on the old faded
divan
Listening to mellow music from an old
transistor
Making plans for our tomorrows
As we sip snifters of cognac
At the cottage by the lake
