APRIL and POETRY MONTH....Day 12

It’s Monday again.
Yesterday I had hoped to take a pizza to my husband at rehab. Unfortunately the place we frequent is closed on Sunday. I had no idea they were as we never ordered pizza from there on a Sunday. It was to late to get one elsewhere.  I’ll do the pizza this week for sure.
I have a feeling I’ll be invisible later today. Let’s just say if I did not have to attend a meeting, I’d stay home and
not have to deal with an arrogant individual.  Enough said!
I wrote less than usual because both pieces were long and I just felt like taking a writing break.  I have writers block again.  It’s odd how that happens on occasion.
Funny but the past five mornings I have kept track of birds in the trees by me.  I hear them early morning and they keep on until usually ten.  I enjoy hearing them in what I now call bird language.  Their tweeting and trilling of birdsongs.
This triggered my thoughts for “AWAKENING”.  In fact I don’t even think about the other sounds outside until I no longer hear the birds; then I hear the world around me.
The word GALOSHES was Terry’s word yesterday. I had rain boots as a kid; guess you can say galoshes.  They were a red color which matched the rain slicker and hat and umbrella.  I actually was upset as I wanted one in bright yellow.  On rain days I’d wear my rain gear to school.  On the way home I’d love to jump in the puddles.  Many of my classmates did not have rain boots to put over their shoes but I did.  I loved them.
Too bad yesterday I did not have any. I stepped into a few puddles that were unavoidable.  I wished I had my old rain gear too. It rained so hard trying to walk from my car to the rehab facility. I am afraid to use an umbrella due to lightning strikes.  So I found these two plastic rain ponchos I’ve had in the car.  We never used them, so I took one out of the pack and threw it on. I looked like I was wearing Saran Wrap but it kept me dry.
I love writing about Tom Cat my neighbor’s cat. He does come by on occasion and lounges in my swing. Such a funny cat. I end up sitting on the steps when he’s there.  So I used him in my wacky holiday piece.
I hope all goes well at my meeting.  I’m sure a certain person will not see me but I unfortunately need to ask them a question.  Wish me luck.
Until tomorrow....have a good day and as always Stay Safe.

                   AWAKENING
Serenaded to birdsong
  reclining in bed I listen
as the birds outside in the trees
Cheep....chirp....
  tweet....trill
Awaken me each day with their songs
The melody of nature gives me hope
  that everything is alright
if only for a brief time
Always the feathered creatures continuing their concert till
   mid-morning
then the sounds of the real world
  take over
drone of lawn mowers,
  dogs barking in the neighborhood
    vehicles on the street
      sirens off in the distance
Letting me know I need to begin my day

              RAIN and PUDDLES

Rainy days in April
 that quench the thirsty earth
Liquid refreshment to the fauna and
      flora
As I look out my window
I notice puddles form on the sidewalk
A memory comes to mind of
a young girl in a red rain coat
    and bonnet
a big red umbrella she twirled behind
    her
  red galoshes on her feet
Happily she splashed in the puddles
as she walked home from school on
    a rainy April afternoon
No cares in the world had she
Unlike the woman I’ve become
too many cares and woes do I have

     WACKY HOLIDAYS APRIL 11th
(National Barbershop Quartet Day;
National Pet Day; National Eight Track
Day and National Cheese Fondue Day)

My neighbor’s cat, Tom Cat, visited today
 since I don’t have a pet I enjoyed
      seeing him
On the step I sat while he lounged
  on the swing
Pieces of rye bread with fondue
and a glass of wine by my side
We listened to music playing from
     inside
Unfortunately I had no portable eight
    track to bring outdoors
to listen to music from a barbershop
       quartet
But big band music was just as good
