It was a busy day for me yesterday. I did not get the chance to work on my poem yesterday till later. I thought about what I had done most of the day. I drove past the VFW on y way home and my thoughts took me to a recent Saturday I sat there looking out the windows onto the lake. It triggered the following piece I composed late yesterday. I do enjoy visiting the VFW, sitting at a table by the window and just look out to the lake. At times I’ll pull out my journal or notebook and make notes of what I see and what comes to mind. Over the years I’ve written quite a few pieces about the VFW view of Lake Jackson.
Enjoy today’s piece

“LAKE VIEWS”
©Scottie-ann Murphy
Sun glints off the waves
Like diamonds that roll across the water
Sitting at a table at the VFW
Looking out the window I watch the action
on Lake Jackson
A few on jet skis whiz by the VFW dock
Further out I notice pontoon boats
making their way slowly across the lake
One stops at the jetty
Four passengers disembark
They head towards the door to enter
the establishment
Pondering their intent, I sip my Brass
Monkey
Are they souls needing to quench their thirst on this hot humid April afternoon?
Maybe they want to cool off inside the air conditioned building for awhile
Or are they meeting friends?
Continuing my vigil of peering out into the world
I notice how the flag flutters in the breeze
as if waving to those on Lake Jackson
a red, white and blue welcome to those
docking their crafts at the VFW on a beautiful Saturday afternoon in April
