NATIONAL POETRY MONTH....Day 18

Today is ‘POEM in YOUR POCKET DAY’.  What you do is download a poem onto a piece of paper; fold it; put in your pocket; then pass it along to another person. Explain to them to read it; place it in their pocket; then they pass it along; with instructions that the new recipient does the same.  It’s fun.  A few years back I made small note cards with poems printed on them.  I passed them out during the day. The following year I created bookmarks which then the person could keep it give away.  This year I’ve printed off a few poems found in the newsletter I received from The Academy of American Poets.  They provided a few that were of interest to me.  On one side I put a poem from the academy; on the other the following of mine.  I wrote this about two years ago for a friend who was having a bad day.  She said it cheered her up.  She kept a copy and refers to it on occasion.   Like her, I pull this one out to give me a chuckle when things seem to be heading in a bad direction.
Enjoy your day.

      When life gets you down
          And troubles come you way
        Throw in the towel
            If just for the day
Don't let despair and bad luck
         Come through your door
            when it knocks
Pour a glass of the grape
         It is now Wine O'Clock
