NATIONAL POETRY MONTH....Day 22

Today is EARTH DAY.  It’s the forty-ninth year of the day.  Can’t believe it’s been that long.  Yet we still don’t seem to get it right.  We are a throw away world.  Seems like we  buy something and instead of fixing it when it breaks we throw it away. I try hard to reuse when I can.  I use a cloth bag for the store. One thing you need to know is that yes your reusable store bags need to be washed now and again.  Recently I attended an event that had throw away cups; I brought my own plastic drinking cup from home to use.  I follow my local recycling plan but sometimes they don’t take everything I feel they should.  I reuse as long as possible plastic jugs for getting water from a water station. I rinse them out in hot water so they can be reused.  Any aluminum cans serve two purposes. I take off the tabs for a group who saves them for a charity; and I give the cans to an acquaintance who takes them for cash.  This person then purchases grocery store gift cards which he gives to the local food bank.  A good deed indeed.  It’s not easy to remember the four R’s (Recycle, Renew, Reuse and Reduce).  This morning I was told that ‘repurpose’ is another thing to do.  I actually think it comes under the reuse heading but it’s a fancier word.
I wrote the following in 2017 when I found I needed to do a better part with keeping our earth clean.  If we all do our part we can help our planet.  It’s everyone’s job to do their part to save the earth.
Until tomorrow have a nice day.

      seventh birthday this year
A day we focus on our environment and our planet
We can do our part to keep our earth clean
   Reuse items when possible
       Reduce trash by recycling
Donate articles that you no longer use.....instead of throwing away
   Everyday is a Earth Day
     Pitch in.....do your part

Everyone should do the four "R's"
   And practice them each day
      Reduce....Reuse.....
           Renew....Recycle
This is the only Earth we
                 have
         Help keep our planet clean
            and green

Plant new trees, shrubs and other foliage to renew
Donate items you no longer need
    when possible for reuse
Use cloth shopping bags on trips to the store
  Reduce landfill trash by
       implementing a household
        Recycle plan
        Utilize the plan everyday

    You and me....recycling begins
            with us
