This is from a few years ago. It’s a true event. I had been out doing errands. I hate traffic and it was just terrible that day. The road US-27 can be horrible at times. I think even though it was time most ‘snowbirds’ were leaving; everyone seemed to be out that day. The road noise was really getting to me and I did put a book on CD to entertain me. I got quite involved with the story and actually wanted to keep driving around just to listen to it. This triggered the piece I composed that day. I’m not sure if others get involved with books on CD or not but I’ve found them great for long trips.
Until tomorrow have a nice day. Tomorrow is ‘Poem in Your Picket Day’.

Errands....Tuesday errands
Inside my Honda all is quiet
Only noise I hear comes from outside on the roads
An eighteen wheeler's squealing brakes
An ambulance siren as it turns toward Florida Hospital
The roar of a motorcycle in the lane next to me
Blaring rap music of the car behind me
Distractions around me
I need to drown out the street noise
Tunes on the radio....tired of them
Talk radio....boring today
News..... too depressing
At my first stop (filling up gas tank) I spot it
A book on CD
It will entertain me
The novel thrilling
Keeps my attention
Narrator reads well
His voice changing with each new character who speaks
Stop two...the bank...
Hurrying inside to compete transactions
Need to get back to the story
Darn....the lines are long
Does everyone have to be here today?
Have to get back to my car
Continuing my errands listening
as the plot line thickens
Stop three....post office
Darn again.....long lines
It's worse than December
Stop...go...stop...go
I am hooked on this book
addicted to it now
Home again.......
I have to shut down car...go inside...but want to find out what happens next
It's like a soap opera for me
Tomorrow.......I’ll be out and about again
Tomorrow.....I will tune in then
