At one time I enjoyed karaoke. It use to be fun going out and being the entertainment; but after awhile it got OLD. I became bored listening to the same songs being sung over and over by the same people. It seemed as if some people only knew one or two songs. It was not fun anymore. Yes karaoke is suppose to be fun and if you have the nerve to get up in front of a group of people to sing more power to you. There are many (and I am one) who do not have singing talent but that’s not the point I think. The idea is to have a good time. Everyone gets their three minutes (average length I figured out for a song) of fame. They can forget their problems for just a few minutes while fantasying they are Elvis, Frank Sinatra, Madonna or Patsy Kline. Karaoke brings a crowd into a bar or club. There are times a round of singers totals thirty. Sometimes you’re lucky to get two songs per evening.
As I have not been to a karaoke for over six months I thought about going again sometime soon; maybe not to participate but to listen with hopes I hear new songs from singers. This thought of karaoke triggered today’s piece.
Enjoy your day.
Tomorrow I may not post my work but that of another poet.

“A MATTER of MINUTES”
© Scottie-ann Murphy
Three minutes....that’s all they ask
Three minutes of fame
Three minutes to be the star
Three minutes to sing their hearts out
Three minutes to entertain
Three minutes to be Elvis
or Frank or Patsy or BeyoncΓ©
Three minutes in the spotlight
Then back to obscurity until the next round
Karaoke singers......out for a night of fun
