NATIONAL POETRY MONTH...Day 27

This year it seems I’ve become hooked on baseball.  I’m a fan of the Phillies (being from Pennsylvania) and the Rays (as I live in Florida).   I set a sports app up on my cell phone so that I get updates during the games.  It can be annoying but what the heck.  I composed the following I think around time of opening day.
It’s the season baseball begins; hockey and basketball are about to wind down.
Have a nice rest of the day.

       Spring training ends
Boys of summer return to the diamond today
First day of the regular season

Fans flock to stadiums (if fortunate enough)
Or to their favorite sports pubs to watch that first pitch of the season
Hopes high that their team will still be alive in October

The pitcher takes to the mound....
      Winds up....throws the ball
The batter swings....
     "STRIKE" shouts the umpire

Boos echo throughout the stadium

      Pitcher repeats....
         Wind up....throws the ball
Batter swings....whack...ball flies through the air
         HOME RUN
First of the season

Nine innings fans intensely watch the throws, hits, runs, fouls, strikes and errors
A few lucky individuals catch a foul ball

         Hurray my team wins

Game one down
Only a hundred and eighty-one to go.
