I never know what will come into my mind or when; but when something hits me I need to get it down somewhere. These days it’s on my notes app on my phone. It’s way easier for me then to put on a light to grab paper and pen in the middle of the night. This morning I woke up at 3:00am sneezing away. I decided to get up use the bathroom and get a drink of water. I sneezed again a few times. It was then I thought about how my allergies were bothering me. I generally do not have night sneezes but last night I did. I’ve always sneezed in threes. I grabbed my cell phone, opened my notes app and began to put words down. Finally I put them together by 4:30am into my challenge piece for day four. I usually write ideas or words; then I put it aside; go back in 20 minutes or so to see what I’ve written; then repeat the process until I’m satisfied with the final product. I say ‘writing’ but it’s not writing since I’m not using paper and pen/pencil; it’s typing.
After I completed my Day Four challenge I went back to sleep for a few more hours. I was surprised and happy to have completed my fourth day challenge before sunrise. Since day one it’s not till later in the day I’ve completed a poem. Perhaps there is something to waking at 2:00 or 3:00am; it’s quiet; my husband is sound asleep; the only sounds I hear is the occasional traffic on my street.
This morning while having my coffee I read my poems for the day. As I mentioned in another blog I’m re-reading my book of challenge poems I wrote in 2012 and 2013. Today as I read the one for Day Four from 2012 I realize on that day I wrote about my sneezing and allergies. Seven years apart on the same day. Very ironic. Well today’s poem and the one from 2012 appears here. I ended up looking for the past two years just to see if I wrote about my allergies but could not find anything. I guess the saying goes about certain things coming back in style eventually. I guess my writing about sneezing has done so also.
Until Day Five......enjoy your day. I wonder if I’ll be up again at 3:00am composing a verse or making notes.

DAY FOUR 2019
“SNEEZING SEASON”
© Scottie-Ann Murphy
Achoo.....achoo....achoo
Three times I sneeze
Spring season begins
Birds awaken with song each morning
Sun rises early.....sets later
Rain showers quench the new flora of the season
New growth sprouts from the once sleepy winter earth
Grass turns from brown, to yellow to lush green
Buds appearing on trees will eventually turn to leaves
Pollen filters through the air
Achoo....achoo....achoo
Three times I sneeze
Tulips, daffodils, crocus, forsythia
Make their presence known with various colors brightening the once dull turf
Achoo....achoo....achoo
Three times I sneeze
Spring the season of earth’s rebirth
Or the season of my sneezing

(Day 4 2012 National Poetry Month)
Springtime is here
The birds chirp in the trees
Bussing bees land on new
blooming buds
The pollen filters through the air
Allergy season is upon us
Achoo........
Achoo........
Achoo.......
My sneezes comes in threes
