LAST WEEK of JANUARY....Day 26

JALOPY a truly funny word that for some reason is now archaic.  I read it became popular somewhere in the 1920’s.  I don’t hear it anymore.  The word used for many years for a dilapidated car.  I’m not sure the last time I heard the word used.  Seeing it as the word for January 25th, the pieces came to my mind as I sat with the notes app opened. The first one reminded me of something I read about where the main character’s husband and their friend were restoring vehicles.  My step-father did restorations on a fifty-five Chevy.  It’s also based on my husband’s cousin who had an old Chevy for year he on which he planned to work. Guess all this came to my mind about the guy in the verse. So I just went with the idea of a guy restoring a car to cruise the streets.
The second is about the same book character who purchased a dilapidated vehicle to restore. Everyone thought him crazy but he saw the finished product in his mind.  I used the idea of a guy doing this and family and friends not understanding his vision.
As for my step-father restoring the Chevy just say I had a hard time driving it. Although it was not a manual, I was use to power steering.  I had a hard time driving it and preferred my mother’s Mustang.   My step-sister, who you all should remember I called Princess D ended up with the Chevy. I personally don’t think her husband appreciated it as they sold it as quick as they could.
I love seeing classic and antique cars.  These people who own them sure take great care of them.
Until tomorrow....enjoy your Tuesday; and as always Stay Safe.

                    THE RESTORATION

His Saturday clothes looked kind of sloppy
But he was only working on his jalopy
Trying to get the old junk running ready
His grand-dad’s old Belair, a fifty-five Chevy

New tires, new bumpers and new seats
He could not wait to drive it on the streets
With the woman he called his loving sweetie
And acting like characters from “American
        Graffiti

Blasting music from a radio’s oldies
     station
He imagined feeling the all good vibrations
Today he would work long hours on the
     heap
Knowing that what he sowed, he will
         eventually reap

                          JALOPY

Junker....they laughed about the old
        vehicle he purchased
All he could visualize was the finished
       product
Little did anyone realize his vision for the
      heap
Overtime the old car would look almost new
Putting hard work and sweat into the
       restoration
Yesterday’s discard will become tomorrow’s
     pride and joy
