This is Scottie-ann for the blog ‘RAMBLINGS’. Do you enjoy witty off the beat readings? Do you need a laugh at times or a chuckle during your day? If so then reading ‘RAMBLINGS’ is for you.
(Ok so I’m not a Billy Mays or an Anthony Sullivan).
I love when an infomercial comes on television. I listen while the spokesperson gives their pitch that it’s the best product that I can’t live without. Why it can replace other items I now own. I need to buy within the next twenty minutes so I can get something free; or order now and if I order two, the second is free with only paying shipping and handling.
One can not blame the pitch person for the ads or products, they are only doing a job. They are making a living like everyone else who is employed. But I must admit these people do capture my attention. They are good. I personally admire the pitch person; yes I said person as both women and men do this now.
Well the odd word challenge for January 8th was SNICKERSNEE. Yes, you are reading it correctly. If the word challenge person for this month, Terry, did not give a definition along with the word I’d think it was an adjective to describe someone. Glad she’s giving definitions.
Instead of being an adjective, a SNICKERSNEE is a large knife used to cut, thrust or fight. I did research on the word also. I thought how will I use this word? Then it hit me as I was getting ready for my day. I just needed my first cup of coffee to get the gray matter functioning. All I could see was an infomercial for a knife called the SNICKERSNEE. In fact three different scenarios came to mind.
I wrote down each as I pictured them. The first an individual is watching a commercial for the product and ends up ordering it. Simple of course.
The second verse the individual watched late night TV where the infomercial runs. They hear the pitchman giving their spiel and orders the product. Now this has happened after seeing an infomercial.
Although I’ve seen many of these ads with their order offers; I’ve never called to buy. A few weeks or so later I have actually seen the product in a store at the ‘AS SEEN ON TV” display. Of course you’re not getting anything free if you buy at the store, BUT you are not paying shipping and handling either. That’s the focus on the second verse.
Verse three is how I heard the ad in my head. I pictured Billy Mays (rest in peace) doing a commercial for the knife or the newest spokesperson these days Anthony Sullivan. I have to admit I enjoyed Billy’s pitches and now Anthony’s. Yes I do watch these things; they intrigue me. I’ve actually purchased cookware in the store I’ve seen advertised on infomercials. Yes my husband, who does the cooking, likes the product; as I’m the cleaner-upper, I like the cookware also.
**Now this is not a pro or con blog on infomercials, I enjoy them; but liking or disliking is up to each person. **
My husband and I see a lot of ads for products in our veterans magazines. In fact we actually ordered items from them. I must admit these ads in the magazines sure can get you to think. Just call and give the code and you get a discount. The only problem is I had to give an email address so they could alert me when said item being shipped. I am now getting two to three email ads from the one place weekly. I think next time I order this way I’m giving an email address I have but hardly use. Let the ads fill up till I delete them.
So back to yesterday’s word; the knife that does it all. I really could use such a thing. Unfortunately it may be too big for my purse.
Until tomorrow....do you watch the infomercials; do buy items you’ve seen on them; and if so were they all you expected?
It’s Saturday so have a great beginning to the weekend and as always Stay Safe.

LATE NIGHT TV
The infomercial quite interesting
What a product to behold
A new cutter for my collection
I watched as the commercial did unfold
Knowing I could use this blade
As this one did it all
from cutting, thrusting and fighting
I made that late night phone call
Gave my credit card info, now I’ll wait
patiently
For the post man to deliver the only knife I’ll
ever need called the Snickersnee

INFOMERCIAL
Late night TV watching as I could not sleep
a few nights ago
An infomercial caught my attention I
watched it all play out
The spokesperson showed many uses of
the product
It can cut any vegetable, slice bread and
cake with no mess, cut open a box and it
even carved the turkey so perfectly
For only $19.95 plus shipping and handling
I too can own the only knife I’ll ever need
The pitch person said this one blade would
replaced others I now owned
It does it all....use it to cut, thrust and
fight
What more does one need?
And ordering in the next two hours I’d get
the black or brown leather sheath for
free
Yes, I was sold....FREE is for me
Called the 800 number....placed my order
My new knife would arrive within seven to
ten business days
This morning I walked through the store
The “AS SEEN ON TV” display stopped me
in my tracks
There for $19.95 the only knife I’ll ever need
along with the free scabbard....brown or
black
Should have waited to purchase the
SNICKERSNEE....could have saved
shipping and handling charges
