WEEK TWO of THE NEW YEAR....Day 13

I’ve heard the word gewgaw before but it’s been awhile.  GEWGAW was the odd word for January 12th.  I’ve had tawdry gewgaws in my life that is the truth.  Of course at the time I took them to be not gaudy but unique which I say is different.  In my mind unique is extremely different where gaudy is just plain ugly.
I wrote the first verse as an acrostic where the woman is wearing an ugly piece of jewelry given to her by a boyfriend.  She knows it’s tawdry but wears it anyhow as not to upset him.  Of course myself wore things I found ugly but only once not to hurt anyone’s feeling; making sure I wore it around the person who gave it to me.
I the second verse I wrote about the person in a store (thrift store) and the item catches their attention.  She ends up bickering the price by offering only five dollars.
This was a fun word to use.
I have to let you know this.  I was reading books in this series I’ve read before.  Well the other day two of the words from the odd word list was used.  The first comeuppance and the other skedaddle.  Now I’m looking to see if I’ll find others as I go along.
Even though I had heard the words before the odd word challenge this month I don’t recall ever seeing them used or if so paid no attention.
Are you a reader? If so look to see if you find odd words in your readings.
Until next time....happy hump day and as always Stay Safe.

                   GAUDY GEWGAW

Gaudy could not describe the trinket
Everyone stared at the broach she wore
What was he thinking buying such a thing
Glittery, sparkling and twinkling the gewgaw
An ostentatious piece of jewelry
Which she’d never purchase for herself

                      THE PURCHASE

She knew that she would probably squabble
Over the price of the tawdry bauble
The glimmering trinket in the display case
Displayed on the old black scarf of lace
It was the gaudiest item there for sure
But she could not get away from its lure

This gewgaw intrigued her for some odd
        reason
As it would be perfect to wear for the
       Halloween season
The silvery black and orange rhinestone
       spider broach
So towards the salesperson she made her
       approach
And offered five dollars to purchase both
The garish gewgaw and lovely scarf
