Donnybrook the odd word for Tuesday. I’ve heard it before. If you ever watched the movie “The Quiet Man” there is a great donnybrook scene in it. My favorite part of the movie.
Hockey has a few donnybrooks as well. I love watching the brawls.
No I’m not a violent person or promote violence, but it’s always interesting to watch it break out on the ice.
I wanted to see just where this word originated. I find it was the name of a fair back in Dublin in the thirteen century. I decided, at least in my mind, that maybe because a few had to much libations they got into rowdy fights and since it took place at the fair they just called it a donnybrook.
So in the first piece I wrote about two friends going to watch hockey at a bar and hoping there is no bar brawl.
The second piece is two friends drinking and getting into a pub fight. It’s a short four line story at best. The third I composed as a history about the area of Donnybrook.
I never been in such an event as a donnybrook physical but it feels like I’ve been verbally if that’s possible.
Today is Wednesday and National Cheese Lovers Day. I like cheese so I will celebrate with a slice of cheddar; maybe I’ll have a cheese pizza. Who knows it’s only six in the morning as I am composing this; not even had my first cup of joe yet.
Week is already half over.
Until tomorrow....try to avoid any donnybrooks and as always Stay Safe.

BREWS and HOCKEY
Again a night of fun they planned to enjoy
Just a few pints at the sports bar while
watching the hockey game
Cheering for goals made by their team
high fives with the celly of the
player
Booing for cross-checking
and penalties
Raspberries when the opponent scores
Exciting to watch the brawls on ice
always the best part of the evening
They only hope no donnybrooks would
break out at the pub again

DONNYBROOK
(Another History Piece)
Donnybrook, Dublin in Ireland home to the
Donnybrook Fair
Beginning in the 1300’s until around 1850
Donnybrook gave its name to a ballad
a lively Irish jig and supermarket chain
Funny donnybrook is a rowdy fight or
free-for-all brawl
Could it have been brawls were known to
occur at the Donnybrook fair due to a few
too many libations?
Interesting question....I’ll wager yes for the
answer
