NEW YEAR BEGINS....Day 8

It’s funny yesterday’s word being BUMBERSHOOT.  I’ve used the word before as well as my husband.  Over the years I’ve own so many umbrellas; from fold ups to carry in my purse, big black ones, different color ones and fancy design ones.  I just had to research other words that can be used for bumbershoot and umbrella.  I found a few and actually learned the difference (although probably already did) between umbrella and parasol.
I took the different words to use for the third verse I composed.
The first two came to mind as I’ve written many rainy day pieces before.
As over the years I’ve owned rain gear as  one in red, I did the first piece about it. Just walking in a light drizzle all decked out in style.
The second piece popped images of a woman this time in yellow rain gear. I had the yellow slicker, hat, boots and big yellow umbrella as a kid. I’d splash in all the puddles. In the second piece I had the woman talking a walk through her neighborhood wearing a yellow rain outfit.  She has people watching her and wonder who she is. This image in yellow made me think of two different product icons.  The one of course the girl on the box of salt; the other the fisherman on frozen fish packages. I decided since I wrote about a female her neighbors may think she’s the little salt girl grown up.
I wonder if anyone actually owns raincoats these days.  The last rain outfit I had was in the nineties and red in color. For some reason I’ve always had red or yellow rain outfits. A few times I had ones that had a flowery design; even a green plaid.
Now we carry an umbrella or even a disposable rain poncho.  I have both in my car trunk. What help are they if I’m in someplace and it’s raining? I should have them in my purse.
I hope you enjoy reading these odd word pieces this month.
Today is Friday and the end of the first week of the new year.
Until tomorrow....have a great day.  Don’t forget your bumbershoot if it’s going to rain and as always Stay Safe.

                      RAIN WALK

This afternoon there’s a light April shower
So I think I’ll go and stroll for an hour
Wearing my rain gear of candy apple red

I’ll be decked out oh in such style
With bonnet, rain coat, rubber boots
Carrying my big black bumbershoot

I’ll saunter along twirling the black umbrella
While I clear my mind from my latest
          novella
Splashing like a child in the puddles I find

                   WHO’S THAT LADY

In the afternoon showers I take a stroll
Decked out in stylish rain gear of yellow
The rubber rain boots, rain hat and slicker
  will keep me dry
Along with a big black bumbershoot
I need to clear tangled thoughts from my
       mind
Walking in the light afternoon drizzle....
      therapeutic always
Such a perfect day for the ducks and me
As I trek through my neighborhood
Cars on the street passing by honk
I wave....I have not a care at the moment
I notice folks peering out their windows
No doubt wondering who is that person in
       yellow
Why is she walking in the rain spinning that
      big umbrella
Perhaps that think I’m the Morton® Salt
      Girl all grown up
But I’m just a woman in yellow rain gear
twirling her big black bumbershoot on a
         rainy April afternoon

            THE TERM DOESN’T MATTER

Umbrella or bumbershoot it really doesn’t
       matter
Or how about calling it a gamp or a brolly
I could sound quite British if I do
Whatever it is termed they do the job
to keep the rain off of you
A sunshade or parasol won’t work
  in a drizzle
They only protect from the sun so you don’t
     frizzle
